Enhancement cores are going to hurt new light players.

I was playing with one of my friends the other day who hasn't played in a long time, and while we were playing he was inspecting his gear looked over at the infusion option and said "what's an enhancement core?" I have sincere worries about bringing new players into D2 when the year 1 content becomes free to play. It will be hard to have a new player who was curious, but not necessarily interested in the series to keep playing when they have to abandon a cool weapon because they won't have the resources to upgrade that weapon's attack power. Yes they do have avenues to obtain cores in the form of masterworked leviathan gear, gunsmith bounties, and a rare chance from dismantling weapons. But 2 of those 3 avenues require a player to want to play the game enough to go down those routes... My point is even though some of us (including me) have plenty of cores, they could be a turn off for new players come September. TL:DR New players good. Cores bad. Edit: I made this post because my entire friends list had said that they will play this game when it becomes free to play but one of my friends who played this game became disappointed BECAUSE he had to leave his favorite guns behind practically every 5 power levels. He hasn't played the game since he mentioned it. And another friend quit because his 2 favorite year 2 weapons require cores he doesn't have. So I know that this topic will be a determining factor into their interest in playing this game. I know that my friends would enjoy this game, but I don't want them to have this steep price to play how you want. Especially when they play other games that don't demand steep sacrifices early-ish in their time playing. And I AM NOT calling for enhancement cores to be removed, they are simply just a steep asking price for newer players (who would only have 2 or 3 free methods to obtain them) to use their favorite gear. And for those saying they make using gear a meaningful choice. Yes they do kind of. They flow like water for people who know how to farm them and play the game a good amount already and are as scarce as copper for new players. Yes I understand it won't be a problem for them in TIME. But that's way after their first impression has settled. If there was a workaround to where newer players could not be turned off while still providing a meaningful choice for infusion I believe many players would be satisfied. (Perhaps reducing the core cost to 1 or 2 while doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling the glimmer cost since that would still limit infusions but make infusion more pertinent to time invested rather than luck.)

  • Well, considering the changes to Eververse in September, I'd like to see Cores be rewarded every time we leveled up much like Motes of Light in D1. We will no longer level up for Bright Dust. I mean, I don't understand how people struggle with cores in this game as it is unless they only play like 1 hour a week. But I see that as a fair middle ground. Especially with the concept of New Light being brought into the fold.

If I learned anything from battering my friends to play Warframe, yes, it definitely will. Unenjoyment from the little things that are tedious push people away from the long enjoyable game

      • If gear (both weapons and armor) dropped with higher amounts of cores that could be found from them, that would go a long way towards helping this serious problem. I just recently got a friend into the game, and he is none too pleased with the infusement process either.

      • I tested this actually with a sharing account on my console. And I had around 6 at the end of forsaken campaign. Plus they drop after lvl50 "without the bounty" then on my 2nd slot I did a warlock and went trough the game but I did all the bounty in the tower once the red war was finished including banshee. I had 20 at the end of forsaken. It is really dificult to have 20 in 1 week of work. "If you are new as a white slate"

      • Yep I agree. I normal just wait till my prime engrams or weeklys Drop 750 gear before I go all in with infusion tho. I normal have 30+ enhancement cores saved up. I personally think enhancement cores should just be for master working items.

          • Im honestly having more of an issue with glimmer than cores... 5k to attach a mod, 8k to infuse, 2500 per masterwork upgrade, barge chests at 5k. I know it sounds silly but glimmer costs are too damn high

              • The new players will be just fine. The current drop rates for them are solid once they start getting legy weps. I know I went from less than 10 at the beginning of season 7 to over 100 and a bunch of new masterworks in just a few weeks. You have 3 daily quests that give mods and cores and 2 weeklies. When they get some shards they can get the spider cores etc. As far as costs for infusing you need to tell your friends like all the players do now only infuse when you hit max light and only keep the highest light level per slot and god rolls. If they are just tossing cores around just to go up 5 light it is a waste, always has always will be.

                • If new players think its bad now they should have been around when cores first dropped in Forsaken. Its nowhere near as bad as it used to be. Id rather them take away having to have planetery mats to upgrade. Nothing i hate more than having to go farm phaseglass needles just to infuse my gear.

                • While this could be an issue, the way I understand bungie’s new direction is the game being designed for those that play it. New light being a peek into the game and hopefully veteran players explaining certain time commitments that will be needed to thrive in the endgame stages. While new light is free, destiny as whole is for the dedicated player.

                  • Do all milestones for the week. Only infuse at the end of ur week. Very few activities you need to be max power for and if they are new then they don’t have to worry about that anyway....

                      • Just think how those players would feel playing games that don't have an infusion option. They would have to play to get the gear they want at a higher level. I get cores will be an issue fir new players but you should be coaching your new friends so they do not infuse until they absolutely have to. They will also be at the disadvantage of not having all the guns and exotics they need to make an impact on endgame activities, they will have lots of things to play before they need to worry about infusion.

I’ve already had this EXACT scenario with my friend. I encouraged him to buy Destiny after Forsaken cause he was starting from scratch, but F was good content and I thought he’d like it. As a new player he was leveling so fast that when he would get a great new exotic, he would level out of being able to use it almost immediately, and not have the cores to bring it up. This of course completely negated any kind of building of his character that felt personal or fun, just an ugly mismatch of blue gear, and he lost interest. If LOSING REAL MONEY because of the ridiculous core infusion system doesn’t make them want to change, nothing will. Destiny is a franchise this is knocking on the door of being REALLY good, regaining trust, and having a big influx of new and old players returning. PLEASE listen to the community here. If nothing else, cut the required amount in half.

                            • Nah, new players will look up the guides that tell you to only infuse mismatching items when necessary, don't infuse every time you get a new piece of gear, etc etc....and will probably end up with more cores than the people who are constantly crying about cores

                              • Cores aren’t that bad dude. Having no cores would neuter the endgame as Infusion would be a joke again. Also it encourages conservation so when hitting the last 10-5 levels the player can infuse to their hearts content. I understand some people want to use the same Loadout every season for the entire season but I honestly don’t mind mixing and matching armor and adding shaders that’s how I found my new favorite look for my Titan. What I’m getting at is... cores encourage experimentation with weapon setups and armor. I ask that you guys don’t take this as an insult but more as a word of advice on the cores controversy.
