Why I Will Always Love and Stick With Destiny

In order to understand why I'd like to say from the get go that this game in a way this game saved my life. Now hear me out for a second please and if you don't then that's fine too, but I'd like to say something that I feel like needs to be said. Now I'm a 17 year-old kid and there's a lot of things that I have to deal with on a daily basis, most prominently I suffer from a severe form of Major Depression. Most times I'm forced to deal with my problems on my own because of the complicated relationship with my family and it's hard, you feel so alone and just want to give up on everything... However, getting back into Destiny after Forsaken was announced at e3 helped me so much. I became passionate about something which was a rarity beforehand and I managed to get the courage to become a more active member in the community, joining a server full of strangers who would later became some of my dearest friends and a source of support to help me get better. The fight isn't over, even recently there are times where I want to give up but when I think like that I remember the friends I've made from this game and how they're always waiting for me to play with them again and always there to support me and that Destiny is a story about hope, that even in the darkest times there's always hope and as long as you hold onto it things can get better. So thank you Bungie for making a game that has helped me so much in my own fight against the darkness and thank you to the wonderful people in this community that helped me through this wonderful game! Remember to have a good day and even if it isn't too good there will be good ones in the future even if everything seems hopeless. Be brave Guardians!

  • It’s just a game, don’t let some game influence your life. Especially this one, you will be masterful at 1/2 truths and secret underhanded dealings Bungle and this fetid confused mess of a game are not good role models

    • Honestly I know exactly what you're talking about, I'm 16 going on 17 and I had a decently tuff childhood at both my mum and father's house and it came to a head when my mum passed pretty much three years ago now and I went into complete emotional shock. I never had many friends and had just picked up the taken king bundle (I think the April update had came out like two weeks prior) so I just started hardcore dumping time into destiny, I met a few really cool guys that became some really good friends, and through them I made a few super close friends that I would personally consider more family to me than some of my actual family. Like seriously I'm a completely different person because of the friends I made and I'm all the better for it. Hell I was just talking and playing crucible with one of those friends

          • I really feel you. Relationships with my family are tough too, especially with one member suffering from a severe learning and behavioural disorder that makes them extremely socially unaware; so they’re just monstrous to everyone. All the time. It’s strange how communities of strangers can push you to keep going when you feel like giving up. A similar thing happened for me with a group of people I met on discord, I’m glad I found them and they really did keep me going. It’s important to remember sometimes, that not all of the community is people who only wish to complain about the game (eternally) and belittle others.

            • Good for you! I have 3 kids, 2 of which have severe depression and bi-polar video games make them happy and content, especially for a bi-polar child who is like a light switch, he goes into a complete melt down, turn on the video game and he settles down and becomes happy again... So I say if it makes you happy then who cares what others think, just keep being you guardian... Nothing but respect for you and what you have to deal with on a daily basis!

                          • As someone whose suffered from Major Depressive Disorder for the last 20 years I empathize. I also applaud you. Community, acceptance, and belonging are where we find them and what we make of them. It sounds like you've met some of the best this community has to offer. Despite what these forums say i also love this community. Eyes up Guardian!

                            • I’m 46 years old and been battling depression my whole life. Not to discourage you but it doesn’t get easier but it doesn’t mean it has to consume you. I found it best to find those little distractions in life that get your mind off things. I use a lot of comedy in life to cope (and since I’ve been doing it my whole life I’ve gotten pretty good at it lol.) I’ve also been gaming since Pong and naturally found a love there to help me as well. Destiny has been like comfort food for me. I’m not oblivious to its shortcomings but it’s still great enough for me to escape to. So don’t think you’re alone in this. You’re just one of the few brave enough to admit it. I wish more would. Lastly for when times are bottoming out and you feel like just staring at a wall it’s good to have someone who cares about you (mines my wife) that understands your issue to at least lay your head upon. Even though it hasn’t been easy I’m still here. Push through because there is a whole world out there for you to enjoy. Just enjoy it on your terms.

                                • Just wanted to say don’t let all of the criticism get to you. I had cancer when I was seventeen and became depressed. Played Destiny, and it helped. Was something fun I could do, and just leave the other worries behind for a little bit. So I’ve been there with you. Just don’t let it become the center of everything okay? As someone who has been in your position, and now a couple of years later taken some advanced psychology classes, I can say that making a game your center is a bad way to go about dealing with things. Do it for fun, yeah, but do lots of other things for fun, too. Good luck, Guardian.

people who don’t understand, simplify or dismiss. Until it’s them who needs a hand..then it’s an issue most deny they have issues and surround themselves with the same miserable people so they feel normal. Empathy doesn’t make you weak, or a sucker It makes you more human... Never listen to internet tough guys who can’t say these things in real life. Find what makes you happy and enjoy it...there’s always someone out there who feels the way you do... peace and blessings on life’s journey.,

                                    • I feel you on that man. I'm 18 and have been battling depression for about a decade now. I have problems expressing my feelings to people and being personal. So I have holded in a lot of things in life. I take medicine but it doesn't seem to help and has made things worse for me. I've lost people because of it. And i have problems expressing why it happened. That just made things worse for me. There's many of us with the same problems. One of my favorite games is warframe and theres a saying in it that is very inspiring. We all lift together. Ok that was kinda cheesy but people like us need to stay together and help each other out. Which is great to see many doing that right now. Anyway, hope you get better man.

                                      • You story is kind of hard to believe. You account is 35 days old and you've only logged in a total of 5 times since February. Forsaken came out last September. You tracker has you at around 60 hours of play time. I am not sure how you can form such an opinion and call yourself an active member when you haven't really put that much time into the game? I mean, your last log in was 3 weeks ago. I don't know how you could have made any friends logging in this few times? I hope this post wasn't made just for some kind of notoriety because that would be really sad.

At 17 I was crushing pu*sy and hanging out all night man, it gets way better than Destiny.
