Congratulations on getting away from the indoctrination as a child.
As a bunch of cells that want to survive like any living organism, our genetic make up doesn't 'want' to die, but wanting isn't really an appropriate emotion on an anatomical basis, we exist because we can, the conditions are right for existence. It is only the human mind that even addresses this concept of death, but of course it is observable in all life, we have just given a name to it and acknowledge it. It is almost arrogance that we don't want to die, we are deluded in believing we are more important than anything else.
