For some reason I'm bad at Destiny PvP but a god in CoD PvP

I dunno why! I play Destiny 1 & 2 PvP and I'm dead pretty much every 20 seconds or so. But in CoD PvP (where all the good players play in) I absolutely destroy. Same with when I play PvP against my friends in CoD. Yesterday I was playing a 2v1 (I was on the 2 man team) in D2 Private matches with my friends and got destroyed, WITH the Graviton Lance! I did a 1v2 in CoD today with the same friends and had more kills than both of them combined! Am I just bad at Destiny PvP or is it just that I need LMGs to be good? What do you think?

It's the opposite for me. I get completely destroyed in CoD. I can't remember the last time I had a 1.0+ K/D ratio in that game. I rarely get to use the special attacks because I can never string together multiple kills. Still, I manage to have just enough fun to keep playing it. I think connection issues are key here. It always seems that other players see me before I see them. For some reason, I'm much better in Destiny.

It’s cause in Destiny you either aren’t used to the higher time to kill, don’t have meta, don’t know the meta, or is just bad with all the mechanics. Anybody can be good in cod if they have a OHK shotgun equipped and know what they are doing. I’m good in COD and Destiny, really good at Titanfall, and okay in anything else.

  • My skill in shooters goes Overwatch>Titanfall>COD>Destiny It's a mix of TTK, movement and gameplay.

  • Like halo, destiny pvp gives the player Shields. In COD it can take a measly 3 bullets to kill. However in destiny it could take anywhere from 5-10 bullets just to brake the shield.

  • You're just bad at Destiny. They're different shooters. I can't stand CoD's twitch style bullshit. I prefer Battlefield. Though sadly with DICE and EA being massive shit bags I'll have to find a new shooter to support.

  • I think they are two very different games. I never play CoD...but I've played a lot of Titanfall...and Respawn == Original Infinity Ward. So many aspects of Titanfall play like Call of Duty. 1. Destiny ---especially Destiny 2---is designed to play like Halo's MP. 2. Hallo is based around slow moving players....with weapons that are slow to kill. Thus making encounters about shooting ACCURACY and who is the more precise in landing headshots to win the DPS race. 3. Titanfall/CoD has a very fast TTK. So you really don't have "gunfights" per se...and its not about shooting accuracy (hardest thing I have to do when going back to Titanfall is to stop trying to land headshots...but shoot a center mass). So Titanfall and CoD are more games about MOVEMENT and POSITIONING. So that you can be in the position to pull the trigger first. 4. Destiny 2 has tried to replicate Halo in such a heavy handed and blind fashion that you just have a badly tuned PVP experience. Graviton Lance and Vigilance Wing both have TTKs that are around 0.80 secs (about where TTK was in Y3 of D1)...whereas most legendary weapons in D2 are tuned to around 1.0 to 1.2 secs. At 1.0 secs + you have a game that badly tuned and frustrating. Primary weapons can no longer kill fast enough to keep up with play. So in going up against a experienced player 1v1...unless they make a serious mistake....there is always time to run away form a losing gun fight if you wish. So 1v1s are usually indecisive unless both players commit to seeing it to a conclusion. Which is why team shooting is such a problem. Team shooting cuts the TTK down to about 0.5 to 0.6 secs in a 2v1 (vanilla D1). Which makes any primary weapon fight VERY decisive (you can no longer run away)...and gives the side with the numerical advantage an OVERWHELMING advantage. Because---unless you have power ammo or your super---there is no way you can match their firepower. Which is why Destiny 2 in its current guise simply can't get rid of the team shooting problem. The 0.8 sec threshold however is important....because that's the threshold where you have to decided at the START of an encounter whether you will fight or run. Whatever you decide...you're committed. So if you fight...you're going to either win or die. No waiting to the tide turns against you then running for safety. So now you have a situation where a skilled player can now kill fast enough to start to take on multiple opponents. Especially if he can win the DPS race against the first player before the second player rotates over. So at this TTK, the win doesn't always go to the side with the numerical edge...and you start to see (finally) a skill gap start to open up. Where the player who is more accurate or can better chain his attacks can come out on top over the side that simply has the most guns.

    • That’s kinda like me. I’m a god in halo 5 but in Destiny I can barely compete against some meta players considering I go anti meta in every loadout. One time I did tractor cannon and bubble in mayhem, and barely won undefeated.

      • Most players I know who wreck at COD, wreck in Destiny even more. Maybe it's just you not being used to Destiny. Anyone great at a fast paced game like COD should come to a slower paced Destiny and play even better.

      • My first CoD was MWII and I went to it from Halo 3. It was so much easier; I didn't have to hit the head for ohk snipes and firefights ended as soon as they began.

      • COD’s multiplayer is polished to perfection from years and years and years of recycled assets. Destiny is laggy and glitchy and the time to kill is awkwardly long considering how twitch-based it feels.

      • CoD has been developed to have a very low skill gap. This means that nearly any player can dominate or get rekt with relatively no change in actual player input. In short: don't use CoD as a yardstick for measuring skill, as it is purposely designed not to rely on skill in order for the player to succeed.

You need to work on your vertical game. Destiny has different playstyles one of which is vertical. A lot of Cod players aren't used to jumping over doorways or leading an enemy. They have good reflexes but you need to be able to commit to kill at the right time and not over compensate. Learning when to run and when to attack are just as important. Also it takes a little bit of time to get used to knowing which guns to use at what distance. Destiny guns all have different ranges, I am not sure about how Good guns work but you need to use Meta guns in Destiny 2 or you will be out matched sometimes.

        • It’s a dramatically different style of shooter. One is low kill times and little location detail prioritizing reflexes. The other is a team shooter with radars, damage numbers on hit and tracking/seeking grenades prioritizing positioning. CoD is more of a shooter. Destiny pvp is closer to a moba than a shooter if we’re being honest.

        • CoD requires less skill because of how low kill times are.

            • I mean.... it’s Call of Duty. It’s always been a pretty easy game. Though, you can’t really compare it to Destiny regardless. They’re kind of really, really different.

            • Say what you will about CoD (i dont reallt care for the games), but they have a very well polished and well put together multiplayer. They have been doing this for many years now and so they have gotten fairly good at CoD multiplayer. It also helps that they are constantly reusing assets, while this can be criticized for being lazy, it does make the games consistent, and this helps to ensure fairly smooth gameplay throughout the series. Destiny on the other hand is not only knew (so it has a lot of bugs to work out), but the developers also seem incapable of deciding what they want. They are trying to use ideas like that of diablo and boarderlands where you use what ever equipment you find in the main game, but then also want the PvP to somehow be more balanced as it is in CoD and halo. These two concepts just simply dont work, which is why everyone else has had to make a choice between them. Diablo is by no means balanced when it comes to PvP and they are fine with (same goes for games like dark souls), while games like CoD add some things into the campaign that are taken out come PvP to help ensure balance. Destiny is trying to have the best of both worlds, and they are trying to do it, when they havent even had much practice with making a new PvP system (most halo programmers left for 343, and they seem to have forgotten how to make things like match making systems). So long as this continues, destiny PvP will continue to be far worse than even CoD.
