People bitch and moan about how grindy vanilla destiny was but I shit you not if you were lucky enough/put in the hours to hit level 30 or even just completed a nightfall and had the glowing head, when you went to the tower you were a God/Goddess with everyone following you around, inspecting you and spamming invites for your help/advise. I miss those days when gear was elusive and a real ball ache to get, it actually felt like it meant something. But let’s face it Bungie has been trying to move away from that model ever since and aim more towards the casual gaming market (I don’t say that as a bad thing, gaming meant to be casual. It’s a “GAME” after all) due to the massive drop off of players in Vanilla once they hit level 20 and the light system came into play. Ultimately the moral of the story is, you can’t please all of the people, all of the time. People who enjoyed the Vanilla grind are generally unhappy with the new model, where as people who felt shut off/locked out during Vanilla are generally happy with it as they feel entitled to access all of the content on a game which they paid there hard earned money to play.
whilst I’m aware this was a bait post, I felt the need to comment as it has sparked an interesting conversation
• This is why at people liked the grind of Vanila Destiny "The Science Behind RNG: it's gambling RNG and luck in games is essentially gambling, and it is very addictive. For every low there is a high, a big epic moment, and that is what players want. From getting that impossible winning draw to getting a perfect run, players keep playing in order to get that rush. The thought of getting that rush, that one win, is what keeps people playing and it's what causes gambling addictions. Gambling is very similar to addictive drugs when it comes to what it does to our brains. A human has a reward system in their brain that releases a chemical called dopamine. source: https://www.gameskinny.com/pvp33/why-do-gamers-like-rng-based-games

 • Exactly. I hated it and cussed and cursed Destiny for the better part of two years because of it. I cussed it because people in Crucible had weapons I could not get thus having a big advantage. Addtionally, I'm also not a gambler at all. So grinding for "the possibility" to get something didn't really appeal to me. I just want weapons that can get the job done. I have that in D2.
