They aren't completely ignoring the lore, it's a few minor points. Stop exaggerating.

 • They are leaving behind the Stranger, who was present a good 3/4 of the way through the vanilla destiny "story", and who had a none-too-small part in TTK where they did not answer questions relevant to her existence and involvement in the story. And Luke Smith has said that he thinks they wrapped up her plot well. I'll admit, there are other stories they aren't touching at the moment, and I'm personally quite glad that they are exploring the nature of Destiny like never before, and that they plan to do the same with other parts later. However, they ARE leaving behind an important part (and likely others we don't know about). So tell me, how can we trust they won't do that with other parts of the story that we enjoy?

 • The lore is bigger than one character, much bigger. Calm down, they might give us more later.... This is a live game after all.

 • Yes, and I addressed that they might. But we ALSO get to address taking them at their word, which is what I'm doing. Because Luke Smith, the person running the game, said that they're done with the Exo Stranger, who yes, is only one person, but they're most likely the most popular character for "who the heck is this and what is their story?" So, kinda relevant, don't you think? Also, I am calm, I'm making a point. And a very legitimate point at that.

 • Note he said the her part in OUR story is "done for now". Which is true. She pointed us to the Heart, and we killed it. She gave us her gun, or at least a version of it. That was her role for US, against the Dark.

 • Here is the section in the article where Luke Smith talks about the Exo Stranger, the whole section: "Ghaul seems like a cool new big-bad to introduce in the same way Oryx rocked up for The Taken King and provided the main antagonist. But are we going to learn any more about the core story introduced in Destiny 1, who the Speaker is and where he comes from, what the Darkness is? Are we going to hear from the Exo Stranger? Are those kind of questions going to be answered in Destiny 2? Not specifically all of those questions. I think some of those questions we’ve taken off the shelf to look at, and some of those questions we’re leaving on the shelf and may never answer. Personally, I think of Destiny 1 as sort of an issue zero in a comic book series. It’s about introducing the universe and some characters in it and some statements, but I think we want to—and a bunch of those statements were questions. I don’t know that we’ll answer all of those statements from the first game, and aren’t going to attempt to in Destiny 2 either. We’re telling a story here with some momentum and I think it’s going to show direction and progress for where the arc of Destiny is going to go. And that arc is, for us, really beginning with game two. Is there a world in which we never find out who the Exo Stranger was talking to on the phone? Yeah, I mean, there’s a world where you never find out anything else about the Exo Stranger, and there’s a world where the Exo Stranger is the star of— Destiny 3? [Laughs] Yeah, there’s a world where the Exo Stranger has a cartoon or a comic book series or whatever. With Destiny, we have so many cool opportunities to tell stories in and out of the game. And we have a bunch of characters who are interesting, but the Exo Stranger is one that always makes me chuckle a little bit. Because I feel that’s one character where we actually wrapped up the arc. She gave you a sweet gun and then dissolved, presumably off to do something else. So I feel like, of all of our characters we’ve introduced and exited, we actually exited her effectively. But she always comes up. She always comes up, so there’s obviously something to that character that piques people’s curiosity. So you’re not going to tell me whether the Awoken queen is dead either, I guess? No, no, I’m not going to talk to you at all about any of those characters. I know that there is a lot of passion from our fans about the mysteries of the Awoken and the Reef. And while Destiny 2 is not going to specifically stare into those mysteries, we see it in the way people that cosplay the characters and love them. So yeah, there are more stories to be told there. " You'll notice that I bolded the reader, but I italicized the relevant parts of Luke Smith's talking where he specifically talks about leaving behind lore, and specifically indicates that he believes the Exo Stranger's plotline is finished. Now, POSSIBLY the Exo Stranger could be part of a comic or cartoon later, but all indication given by Luke Smith is that the Exo Stranger is finished in Destiny, and we MAY never get to hear from her again. And the point of this post? A what-if. The very first word in the title question is "if". It admits that it's only a possiblity, but it deals with THAT possibility. Also, you'll note that he doesn't specify anything about what story she's done for. He does say that she's likely off to do something else, but the whole point about her being a part of our story is that our story is the way we interact with the world of Destiny. Even Grimoire cards are lore that is unlocked by and for the guardians. So excuse us if we actually take Luke Smith at his word.

 • Key words there are MAY never answer. It's possible that they choose to keep us guessing about, say, the Stranger's past
