Dissolve all parties and make a new one from its ashes. One for the interest of the people One for Democracy One made to let congress and the government do its job instead of being permanently locked in stalemate because "the other guys want it, so we can't let them." Empty rant over

  • The main problem we currently face is that we are a nation divided, we are more polarized than ever before, and it's not so much about Democrats vs Republicans as it is about liberals vs conservatives. Even without political parties we would still have candidates who's stances on the issues would leave them able to be defined by the voters as being either liberal, conservative, or moderate; thus, the polarization would still exist. On the bright side, having only one one political party would at least stop those who only ever vote based upon party affiliation regardless of the candidate's actual stances on the issues. This would either nudge voters toward becoming more informed, or they would simply vote for a candidate for the wrong reasons, yet again. As for this 'one party' being for the 'interest of the people,' I tend to cringe at this, because it sounds an awful lot like, "we know what's best for you." I mean, who decides what's in the best interest of the people, you know? You mention there being a democracy, so does this mean that 'we the people' will vote and decide what's best for us? That would be a 'majority rules' situation, which I'm not entirely opposed to in all honesty, but I highly doubt liberals and minorities would be Ok with that. The reason congress or the government is often in this state of gridlock or stalemate isn't so much about one party or the other not allowing them to do their job, it's because liberals and conservatives are adamantly opposed to one another and cannot arrive at an agreement. Depending on where you get your news from, liberals will undoubtedly say it's the Republican's fault and conservatives will undoubtedly say it's the Democrat's fault. It's like watching kids fight over the remote or refusing to share a toy and neither getting their way, which in their view is much more preferable than compromising or giving in.
