Importance of Music in Games

I have three questions. You may answer only the ones you care to answer, or all of them. Firstly, how important is music in videogames to you? Does it not matter, is it a nice icing on the cake, is it a pretty big deal but ultimately unnecessary, or does it make or break a game for you? Secondly, let's say you hear a song that blows you away and you absolutely love it, whether it's exciting, dramatic, chilling, emotional or beautiful. However, you've either never seen gameplay from the game it's from, or you have and weren't interested in it. Does that amazing music you heard make you want to love the game, or want to try it? And lastly, what are some games with incredible music? Are those games some of your favorite, or do you simply enjoy the music? Do you feel the music changed your view on those games? Maybe share a specific song?

  • Music is ESSENTIAL in games. I like open world RPG's the best, so I am looking for an immersive EXPERIENCE. Skyrim, The Witcher 3 and Fable (1 and 2) are some of my favorite soundtracks ever. Sometimes I listen to them when I draw (very inspirational). Some of my other all time favorites : Metroid, StarCraft (1 and 2) and Diablo (all three). Amazing stuff!
