It's pretty fcking stupid that you have to read the story outside of the game. Shouldn't people be playing the game and understanding wtf they're doing in the game?

  • Destiny has lots of story, if you watch game of thrones I think the story will be like that, one thing one minute and another the next but in the end all will end up being resolved. I like the way they are doing the story personally, they are giving little bits here and there and creating a base for what is too come. I think a lot more will be explained in destiny 2. think of destiny as a building block (fragmented) over the years it will be defragmented and make a lot of sense. also read the grimoire cards (its got a lot of back story)

  • People aren't denying that Destiny has a lot of story. The ire has always come from the fact that very little of it is presented in the game. Names are thrown out via exposition in year one and a situation was presented in year two with Oryx. Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Oblivion, and Skyrim have robust entries that provide enjoyable backstories and lore. That stuff enhances the Role Playing experience but there's enough story in those games to let you know things are happening. With Destiny it always felt like the grimoire cards were some sort of pardon from having to include that material via cinematics. This was a good article though. Thanks for sharing.

  • I actually like that. It implies the vanguard and speaker are hiding things from us, making me question their leadership in the same way their order of exterminating the ahamkara did.

  • The strangest thing about it is that bungie has done many questionable things to prolong gameplay but adding the LENGTHY story to the game ( in short bursts, here and there) never occurred to them. It certainly could have made the initial pve leveling process a lot more enjoyable, made the rpg element more substantial and the game longer. For those players who weren't interested in lengthy story segments a simple "skip" button would have solved the problem.

  • I agree the game would if been better if they included a full fledged story to it not a piece her and a piece there while wee jump to this part here.

And some of that is actually misleading. In some of the grimoire cards the traveler actually tried to leave like it did the fallen. But something stopped it And in the grimoire it makes hints that a warmind stopped the traveler from leaving And of course only warmind we know is Rasputin

  • No Rasputin had a contingency for the traveller leaving, nowhere in the grimoire does it say they actually did this. In fact since vanilla there has been a card (Ghost a Fragment : Mysteries) where Rasputin in his own words admires the traveller because he didn't hide like he did.

  • I played Halo and story wise it's similar. You could only learn a lot of Halo lore from books.

  • On the other hand, most people don't want to sit and read or listen to a whole novel when they just want to play a game.

Imagine it as the first star wars movie.. it's very confusing at first snd received bad ratings.... Which is now the largest and most popular sci-fi trilogy of all time. It's more of a "opening a book from a chapter" as opposed to reading a book from the first page.
