This seems rigged. I mean, who is going to say no to "I like leveling up"

I love level up systems. I mean they are bad in the sense that they are grindy and time sinks. but I always enjoy games that have clear brackets for players "this dungeon is for people level 10-14" etc

  • I can say I hate it in non-RPGs. In games like Overwatch, or CoD level ups are completely unnecessary, and a tadbit annoying.

  • But it doesn't hinder your gameplay (at least in overwatch) and even if it does in that style it's minuscule. It rarely takes away from the game.

  • I still find it annoying. It's like "let's add level ups for the sole reason of adding level ups!".

  • Well, it also helps gauge how long a player has played the game, and in some cases how well. While it is nearly pointless, the question didn't specify whether they meant RPGs or not, and it's hard to dislike leveling up in RPGs for previously mentioned reasons.

  • Well of course. Levelling up is like a core feature in RPGs. If you don't like levelling in RPGs you simply don't like RPGs. :p

  • Exactly. And when someone asks you about leveling up, your first thought probably should not be cod or overwatch.

  • It's not. I got Role Player as my result. But, I was taking the opposite perspective. Someone who doesn't like RPGs, and hates levelling in their beloved FPS genre. Of course.. I do really hate levelling in FPS games, but I also tend not to like FPS games in general.

  • Well, I dabble in everything (except sports bleh) but it gave me roleplayer as well, suggesting games like skyrim and final fantasy (which I played and enjoyed, but nowhere near my favorites due to their somewhat grindy and repetitive natures and overdoing inventory micromanagement). My argument is that the questions are slightly biased to make roleplaying games seem like your preferred genre.

  • I suppose I could see that. Mine was role player, and completely accurate, though, so I suppose I wouldn't know.

  • Maybe some people like games that don't bother with levels, like fighting games or maybe racing games or something.

  • Even if you prefer games without any sort of leveling or ranking system, you still won't inherently dislike the act of leveling up in other games. It could be anything from gaining skill points to unlocking another gun in cod, it's hard to dislike getting access to more content.
