Want to start playing Dark Souls 3, what do I need to know?

Title says it all pretty much. Any hints, tips, videos I should watch, anything at all?

  • Move set is more imprtant than attack rating imo. Death is even more of a given if you're off balance or uncomfortable. Also, find them combos!

  • Look m8. There's alot of people around here praising the shield. The shield should not be a crutch. For a few reasons. Not the least of which is that blocking consumes stamina. If you block an attack when you don't have enough stam, chances are high you get crit. Blocking boss attacks? Are you a pleb? This is DS3. Turtles are SOOO 2014.... Don't get me wrong. It has its uses. But you're better off learning invicibility frames, and timing them so you can roll through attacks.
The Knight is real good for new players. Avoid casters until you have a grip on enemy mechanics.

although.... spells keep getting buffed and whatnot.
• Well if you are stuck at an area fightincowboy has pretty good walkthroughs with all the items. That being said I think you should do your first play thru alone. Other then that find a shield with 100% physical damage resistance. After you beat vordt of the boreal valley grab a small leather shield and practice parrying with the lotheric knights out there. You'll have it down by then

        • If it's your first souls game start as a knight or herald to have a good shield and decent starting weapons/vitality. If it's not your first experience try a fun build like sorcery or pyro because they're very good for early game if you get good timing on casts (sorcery/pyro). Learn to roll through attacks to perform counter attacks.

        • Depends, what do you want to know? Lore? Gameplay? Specific mechanics? Anyways, if this is your first Dark Souls, I would advise picking the Knight starting class. Provides the best overall stats for new players, decent starting weapon and a shield that has 100% physical defense. This game is punishing for new players, so I would suggest to be a bit prepared for a rough beginning. Not to worry though, you will eventually learn from your mistakes and succed! Learn to time your dodges right before an enemy attack and make good use of your shield! Always proceed with caution when facing new enemies and try to remember their attack patterns. The game does have in-game co-op and PvP.

        • Kill the firekeeper asap, she ends up betraying you by consuming your souls.
