Hello all, Firstly, I would like to mention that this is my first ever post on a forum, so please do excuse my lack of knowledge with regards to rules or general conduct. My aim with this post is to inform the interested folks on my experience with grinding for the Flayer Mantle drop in the strike Dust Palace on Mars. There are many posts out there regarding this subject and I have read the majority of them. However, there doesn't seem to be a detailed one that really goes in depth about the best way of obtaining this hugely wanted item! Anyways... Enough of my babbling and let's cut straight to the chase. I have been endlessley farming this item for the past few days, using a variety of different methods and after many energy drinks and pee breaks Destiny finally decided to reward my efforts! Please note I attempted this with a Level 40 and a light of around 290. I firstly tried solo grinding the level 20 version of the Strike directly from the Mars map. However, although Rare engrams came in the many alas there was no Flayer mantle even after about 30 attempts or so. Next came the Level 36 Strike via the playlist. The method I used was to join matchmaking and each time I would orbit until eventually Dust Palace was chosen. Although a long a tedious process it becomes much more bearable with a movie on next to you. The outcome was the occasional legendary engram but for the most of the time it was rare armor and weapons within the 260-270 range. Lastly, the successful but long process was much like the above but on the Level 41 Vanguard strike playlist. Again, the method was to orbit until Dust palace emerged. After 50 or so attempts the Flayer Mantle finally dropped(for me It was the red one seeing as the red flayer was the last killed). I strongly suggest you stock up on Heavy Ammo Synthesis as the Flayers seem to be defeated most rapidly when using a sword. I also suggest learning the strike and knowing the best places to quickly run past mobs in order to save time. As mentioned above, watching a movie or series greatly helps especially if (like me!) patience is not one of your virtues! Finally I would like to apologise to the many players I ditched in the strikes whilst pursuing this beautiful cloak! Best of luck everyone and please do comment on your experience with all this:)
