This, of course, made him uncomfortable. “Eugh…” “Well, howabout... whoever lands the least criticals has to pay 1000 glimmer.” Sasha tested her sights. “I can do that!” Harrol turned on the weapon’s smart-bullet system. Sasha turned on the holographic system, and they went in. She turned on ‘VEX’, something she never really fought. This would help her train. “You ready?” Sasha put her helmet on. “You know I am.” Harrol readied his weapon. |======================| “AAAAAAAHHHHHHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!” Harrol said, showing his beastal side. He was firing SGA from the hip, mowing down wave after wave of vex. “Geez, Harrol. I’ve never seen you like this before!” Sasha dodged an arm swing and shot through it’s bronze skull. It kept moving. “What!?” “SHOOT THE WHITE STUUUUUUFF!” Harrol was surprisingly still, both feet firmly planted to the floor. “Um…” Sasha placed her barrel at its belly and pulled the trigger. In an extremely odd display, a Titan from the sidelines hollered out: “Look at that chick covered in white gunk! I bet she pu-” Before he could finish, there was a baseball-sized hole in his forehead. Sasha, with the simulation ended, stood, breathing heavily and holding her ground. Her barrel was still pointed in his direction as his ghost resurrected him and he ran off. “I’d rather be dead than be called a wh-” Just as Sasha began her curse, the proud voice of Lord Shaxx boomed over the tower intercom. “Tower Guardians, I am proud to announce that The Crimson Days are upon us! Come next week, pairs of guardians will be fighting against each other in a glorious display of RED!” |======================| Back at the cafe, a broken window was covered with a plank of wood and a non-guardian waiter was back in the tower with new legs. Ah, glimmer, the programmable matter, a glorious thing! “Mhm.” Zara took a sip of coffee and read her tablet. She saw a headline: ‘Fallen; Our Foe… but maybe our Friend?’ with a picture of Jaik looking surprisedly at the camera, his mouth stuffed with garbage. He was leaning over a trash can. “Wasn’t that where that Titan was ****d by that warlock with a *****?” Zara mumbled to herself. “Hey, Zara.” Sasha gave the waiter a stern, but sorry look. She sat down opposite of Zara. “Wazzup?” Zara looked at Sasha, bored. “They fixed up the waiter.” “I see that…” Sasha looked at the window. “I should pay for that.” “Mhm.” Zara took a gulp of coffee, grimacing. “What’s wrong?” Sasha asked. “Too little sugar.” Zara grumbled as she got up and went over to the coffee bar. She then proceeded to dump the entire contents of the sugar bowl into her drink. “Sweet tooth?” She commented as Zara sat back down. “Hey, you gotta get in the season.” Zara snapped back. “Doesn’t help that being Taken burns calories a bajillion times faster.” Sasha raised an eyebrow, thinking back to all the empty pudding cups she had once seen in Zara’s new place. “Well… why are you grumpy? You were okay earlier.” Sasha said, gesturing with her hands. “These.” Zara tossed around eight or so love cards, all signed Ralph. “Oh damn!” Sasha swatted her back. “You got an admirer!” She just groaned. “But this is only ten of, like, a hundred.” “I was gone for an hour!” Sasha looked at her in disbelief. She grimaced. “He had been stockpiling them for years, apparently. AND it came with a singing telegram, or whatever.” Her gaze turned thoughtful. “Although, they each came attached to a pudding cup, so it was okay.” “Oh, dear god.” Sasha picked them all up, and opened them. “HAVE A HAPPY HAPPY CRIMSON DAY FROM sender here TO recipient here!” All the cards sang in unison. Sasha, surprised, dropped them on the floor. Zara picked the lot of them up and quickly threw them back into her backpack. No need to use small range transmat in the tower. “And you were sent hundreds of these?” “Yep.” Sasha grinned. “No wonder you look a little fat.” She glowered at the titan and drained the last of her coffee. “Anyways, I thought I would at least take him with me to Crimson Doubles. To pay him back for the….” “The pudding?” Sasha finished. “...Yeah, the pudding.” Zara threw her backpack over her shoulder. “Ok I gotta scram. I’m going to use the-the-” she took a deep breath. “The Red Death in the crucible. Ok bye seeya.” And with that the Taken guardian briskly ran out the door of the diner. That was weird. Sasha thought. Then the sudden realization hit her as she checked the bill. “SHIT!” She threw open the door. “DON’T LEAVE ME WITH THE GODDAMN BILL!” She shouted at the retreating figure. “YOU HAD FORTY-SEVEN COFFEES!” |======================| End… of chapter 12.
