TTK Infusion Light Level Formula

Want to know what an item's resulting light level will be before you dismantle and infuse it? Here's the math: ([new light level] - [old light level]) * 0.8 + [old light level] Example: Infusing a 270 item into a 250 item (270 - 250) * (0.8) + 250 (20 * 0.8) + 250 16 + 250 Result: a shiny new 266 item Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/3l74nv/infusion_guide_to_infusing/cv3sj3v Edit: There's been some speculation that the quality of the item that you're infusing matters. For example, if you infuse a blue into an exotic, you may get worse results than if you were to infuse a purple into an exotic. This is based on just a few sparse experiences and some speculation, however. If anyone has additional data on this point, please share.

  • Check out the Destiny Infuse app. So far for me it's been 100% accurate.

  • Exotics must get rounded down because I get shafted by 1 light every time.

    • I still don't understand why infusion does this whole averaging/rounding thing. I mean I do understand, it's to cause more grind but it's really dumb. It should just be 280 Nirwin's Mercy, infuse a 310 hawkmoon, 310 Nirwin's Mercy. It still requires a 310 drop it still costs materials it should just give you the full amount.

    • 270-250=20 20 x .20=4 4-270=266 This is how I do it...both work though...

        • All I need to know is exotics can go up four levels and legendaries five without losing any light and that's it

          • What of fully upgraded weapons? Does that play any role? Say I infuse a fully upgrade 300 weapon into a 280 weapon. Will I get an extra point or two if the 300 weapon is fully upgraded?

            • I don't understand why we have to go through all of this calculating and guessing. Why doesn't Bungie just add a "resulting light" number on the infusion popup?

              • There is no speculation. Quality DOES matter. Also, just use the infuse calculator. It works great and even has the quality options for exact results.

              • 310 exotic helm into a 298 saint 14 brought it to 306. 310 exotic helm into a 298 legendary helm brought it to 308. The tier of the gear does matter.

                • Infused a 315 harrowed raid fusion into my 310 spindle, brought it to 314. Did the same thing with a 315 fusion into a 310 1,000 yard stare and it brought it to 315. I thought things like this would happen, makes sense tbh.

                    • I infused my 304 Mirwens Mercy with a brand new 310 Hawkmoon and it went up to 310. I was pretty surprised that it jumped up 6 light, but maybe that's because it was an exotic and it retains more light when being infused??

                            If infusing INTO an exotic 1, the rarity of the item being sacrificed is not taken into account (rare = legendary =exotic) 2, [Att/Def of item sacrificed ] - [ Att/Def of item being Infused ] * 0.7 = ( Delta ) 3, If ( Delta ) < 4, then ( New Att/Def ) = [ Att/Def of item being infused ] + 4 4, Else ( New Att/Def ) =[ Att/Def of item being infused ] + ( Delta ) IF infusing INTO an Legendary 1, the rarity of the item being sacrificed is not taken into account (rare = legendary =exotic) 2, [Att/Def of item sacrificed ] - [ Att/Def of item being Infused ] * 0.8 = ( Delta ) 3, If ( Delta ) < 6, then ( New Att/Def ) = [ Att/Def of item being infused ] + 6 4, Else ( New Att/Def ) =[ Att/Def of item being infused ] + ( Delta ) tldr Exotic: if the difference * 0.7 is > 4, use that. Else it's 4 Legendary: if the difference * 0.8 is > 6, use that. Else It's 6

                            • It's not linear, it's on a curve. The closer you are to the higher number when you infuse, the more likely it will be that you get the existing high number. To ensure that you do, if you have more than about 5 point difference, get another item with an intermediate value and infuse it to raise your number part way (to get it closer to the high number) and then infuse the high number.
