• If only religious people were also held to this standard.

Ah this is where there's a huge double standard. If someone bothers me I can always mute them, but people like you would rather ban us from talking. In the op, the religious person is putting their views out there on social media. If an atheist responds, it's not okay, but why is one group allowed to talk about it and the other not? Pure hypocrisy, that's why. There's a million Christian websites, groups etc but you lot still feel the need to bring it into the public sphere. As soon as you do that we have a right to tell you you're talking rubbish. Don't like it? Don't post it in the first place. Make a Christian group or something.
...people like you would rather ban us from talking.
How did you infer that from the sentence the guy posted?
...the religious person is putting their views out there on social media. If an atheist responds, it's not okay, but why is one group allowed to talk about it and the other not?
You're really stupid to assume so. I neither respect or agree with your beliefs out of the fact that you make it a daily case to post or comment anything informative about what is actually studied in mainstream theology. I have a lot of Christian and assumed-to-be atheist friends, who I love and respect more dearly than any amount of "man" that can come from you. You exhibited none of their traits, which are even more so worth categorizing as admirable. Whenever I post, I post in response to a question or incorrect statement concerning the theology I believe. If you want me to shut up about religion, DON'T talk about religion or even ever act like you understand the thinking of a Christian when it is obviously plain to see you're even more ignorant than a young believer learning the faith. It's sickening when I see an atheist study biology, biochemistry, and evolution while at the same not wanting to receive a single ounce of knowledge related to the opposite party's opposing view. They're like a scientist that proved the element titanium doesn't exist by getting rid of all his samples of titanium. Christians state, "The evidence exists." It's only and always the individual who chooses to remain an atheist. "I rather you said thank you, and be on your way. Otherwise, I don't give a damn to who you think you are entitled to."

  • Ah I think I understand your confusion. When I was referring to the op, I meant the guy that put up the Internet atheist meme, not you. I don't care whether you post or not. I certainly believe you have the right to make these threads.

  • I'm glad you don't think so, but I would like to make the point anyway: whenever I post a post about religion, it's because someone somewhere stated something incorrectly about religion.

  • That's fine, and just like you have a right to put your interpretation of your holy book in the public sphere, we have a right to express our opinion on it, which was the point of my post before you jumped in.

No. If I was, I would tag your profile, rebuttal everything you state in other threads, send Dorit your profile, and spam you an annoying internet trick that causes one the need to reset their phone (if you're doing this on your phone), but I'm not going to do so since I have an obligation to answer every comment I have on only my threads, not anyone else's (unless I'm bored).

I disagree about the thinking behind this. Peoples beliefs effect their actions and decisions. Truth matters. Not being an asshole is always an excellent approach, but people should be very concerned with theirs, and others beliefs.

That's what I think too! Who cares what someone else believes as long as they aren't shoving it down your throat. Great post!

  • But they sort of are forcing it down our throats by posting it in the first place, especially if they know you don't share their faith. In the cartoon, there's no need for the religious person to be posting to everyone, they could always just include fellow Christians, but no, they post it to believers and non believers alike. You know what I do? I mute them or remove them. Why do religious people moan instead of just doing the same? Double standards. Why place your views in the public domain and then moan when we do the same?

I think about it like this. You can be the better person and ignore their posts just because they don't apply to you or just be happy with someone else's beliefs. The world is a scary place so, why is it so wrong for Christians to put their fears into a higher power. Some do wrong, some do right, and some do nothing. The Christians informing you about their beliefs are doing this because that is what their belief asks of them to do. Some people just don't know how to communicate that well to others and it can come across inconsiderate.
Theses are just my thoughts
• If you think I'm like this, I of course will intend to disagree. If I see anyone post anything related to religion, without having a serious attitude toward the religion, I will post about the religion. If you want me to shut up, stop talking about religion.

  • I couldn't care less whether you post or not, it's simple for me to ignore you or mute you. If you bothered me I would. But that works both ways round - people on either side are free to post anything they like (within the code of conduct).

  •
...it's simple for me to ignore you or mute you.
Obviously not. I honestly wish you would. I like to talk to open minded individuals. And about the Code of Conduct: Apparently, no one really cares. I wish for the Ninjas to be more strict.

As usual you misunderstand. It is simple for me to mute or ignore you but I don't want to. If you "wish I would", as you just said, the option is there for you. I'm not going to moan about you posting - I believe in freedom of speech, and I understand it goes both ways. I reserve the right to speak out when you talk about your particular brand of religion as if it is proven fact. The Internet meme that started this discussion seems to promote the idea that it's okay for religious people to post about their beliefs, but not for atheists to respond. My point is that by posting in the public sphere you are putting yourself in a position where people can and will disagree with you, and there's nothing wrong with them voicing their opinion. The fact that you wish I would mute you (especially when you're often the one that responds to me) smacks of not wanting your beliefs challenged. Well, there are plenty of groups/venues/forums where you can do this with like minded people and go unchallenged, but you choose to use this forum as a soapbox, and I'm afraid you have to deal with dissenting voices unless you mute me. Which you are free to do. Edit - I guess even you realised you couldn't argue with this.
