Etheric light useless after September 14?
Anyone think etheric light will be cut out of the game for The Taken King?

For me, it's useless now. There will probably be some sort of trade in like there was for radiant/ascendent materials

3 RepliesIf year 1 weapons are getting left behind, then they are essentially making the Vault of Glass and Crota's end obsolete. If the Exotics can be upgraded then you could at least grind them for an Exotic drop, but other then that, there would be no reason to run them. And the noobs that bought the collectors edition and got expansion 1 and 2 for nothing will be getting something worthless. That is what was brilliant about etheric light. If you liked the weapon or armor, it made it a viable option. At this point, I am running out of things to upgrade, and etheric light is piling up. When the TTK drops I may have no reason to ever run POE again, other then nostalgia.

3 RepliesI hope they don't make our Raid weapons obsolete. I love those guns, and we should be able to keep them. Many people don't to have to grind more for sub par weapons. The HOW, weapons are bad. How could they make the best weapons with the first raid? We need to be able to keep those.

Lots of people on both sides of the fence. Either way they are going to piss off a large subset of players. Maybe the solution would be to keep it so that all old guns are relevant in PVP, but the new guns would be needed for the PVE activities...

5 RepliesIt's funny to me that people responding here are so certain that everything will be obsolete and e-light will be useless. I honestly don't feel they would introduce such a well received mechanic only to have it become obsolete within months. Honestly all they'd have to do is change the description from 'year one' to 'year two'. That way you'd still be able to upgrade the stuff you're dead set on keeping. Imo, the only thing that should make ascending, e-light, and make us give up our old beloved gear, is the new gear/exotics in TTK.

2 RepliesEducated guess is that they plan to replace it with a mat that is just the "new etheric light." I honestly don't think they will make all former guns up to that point obsolete.

26 RepliesThis is one of the very few things I agree with DeeJ on: in Year 2 we should move on to entirely new weapons. The old ones would be missed, that is undeniable, but just having the same OP weapons all the time is a bit bland in my eyes. I shudder when I say this, but I don't want to be able to ascend current Year 1 gear to Year 2 status. Legendaries that is anyway, the Exotics will obviously keep going for sure.

1 ReplyRemember what they did about crucible and vanguard accommodations when HoW came out. They where obsolete so we could burn them for rep. I thought that was a good idea. So maybe a etheric light exchange rate to something else cool

It would nullify any reason to do either of the current raids. Sounds so stupid, but Bungie will probably do it, because they're shitty like that.

41 etheric light in my vault It was already useless in week 2/3 of HoW for me. Its like the old vanguard/crucible commendatians (i guess i spelled it wrong)

5 RepliesFor some reason I think Bungie is going to find a way to convert 365 ATK into a 34 LIGHT. Like having 2 of the same weapons but with a different value term. So they may essentially take off the same amount of damage but just have different stat names Or they could just be completely -blam!-ing over the community by making previous year weapons worthless. Who knows lol all I know is I ain't stressing, and that's [b]important[/b]

I think it will still be part of the game but I hope for more Vault Space. Got a few favourites that I want to keep, even if they are unusable by 2016. I have more Old Memories about my Legendary Gear than my Exotics. I do have all of the Exotics and only remember when I got Three of them... Legendarys though! I remember most of them!

I am almost certain that TTK will have a new upgrading system to take into account. It might make us bring whatever we like to still use over but like alot of people said that they might make better weapons. Then again some of this current DLC weapons aren't that bad at all. Yes, some have burns for only some and another only have some that are useless but gamers need to look over those perks and not rely on them. TTK I believe will have a option to ascend weapons from before as well as gear. It might be harder to acquire it all. The only reason why others are not getting alot of etheric light is because PvP in ToO is a really unbalanced and a want to be MLG type, and most of the ones who had done Skolas did it on burns(Mainly Solar) and try not to lie if you did it on solar with all GHorns it doesn't make you a gamer it makes you a grinder who just want to brag about everything. But with that being said they will try to incorporate a new way of ascending weapons and gear or why else would they make us do it to the old weapons just this one time.

1 ReplyI believe that etheric light will still be valuable to bring weapons and armor to HOW standards but you would have to use a new currency other than etheric light to bring them to The Taken King standards.

3 RepliesThey'll find another use for it. e.g Something akin to needing an Etheric Light to bring a weapon from Year 2 to it's max current level, i.e like the final step of an exotic to get it to 365 now, whatever the level cap is then, it will be the final step to get you to that level. If that makes sense.
