So so buzzing for my three weeks in the USA in December.
Just sorting my itinerary out and I'm super excited.
7 nights in New Orleans
2 nights in Natchez
3 nights Memphis
3 nights Nashville
3 nights Atlanta
Any ideas where i should visit in between and smaller, quaint, real american towns I should visit?

Speaking truthful and from the heart here, it's great that you want to experience all you can I have traveled and lived in many parts Since it seems you are going around the south east, I would suggest that you please if you can... Change Memphis and Nashville to 2 day stays. You can see many civial rights sites and experience great nightlife music in both towns. Honestly you can see a lot of that same thing in Atlanta too ( where I currently live ) I would Strongly suggest that you take those extra couple days and drive to Charleston South Carolina, despite the recent event there I can all but guarantee you will encounter great hospitality, some of the best seafood / shrimp and grits ever! Incredible street venders/ artists great college crowds and Not to mention the well preserved civial war forts and battlefields that you can tour... Ohh and there are some nice beaches and golf too. If you can only go to what's on your listed itinerary then think of these: Nashville- Tootsies great country bar with live music good drink prices and fun even if you don't like country like myself. The beer cellar a dive bar that has possibly the best fried mac&cheese ever. The Nashville sound semi pro baseball team, grab a drink and watch Americas favorite past time. Tickets are cheep too. Atlanta- There is the tourists stuff like The BIG aquarium. Coca cola museum, zoo, sixflags theme park, CNN world headquarters tour. But there are also other great hidden great local restaurants and shops in the Lenox/ buckhead area. If you tell me what your interests are I can point you in the right direction for sure.

I live in New Orleans! Have a good time!

Go to the Midwest! We have corn and air!

Take a day or two in Chicago. Go to Michigan Avenue and steer clear of south side.

I'll second stopping in Chattanooga, TN on your way to the ATL. The TN Aquarium blows the GA Aquarium out of the water. If you want to spend the night, there's the Chattanooga Choo-choo, where you can sleep in a converted Pullman train car. Also, rock city, ruby falls, civil war battle sites nearby. I lived in Chattanooga for a while when I was single, and I'm only about 1.5hrs away now. Take the family up there on weekends sometimes. Great, friendly town.

Edited by smoov0808: 7/6/2015 9:41:00 PMBe very careful in N.O.!!!!!! Venture to far on the wrong end of Bourbon and well, your man hood will be taken from. And make sure to stop at Middendorf's for some good food. It is off of I-55 northwest of New Orleans.

1 ReplyEdited by Broke Back Mountaintop: 7/6/2015 9:09:07 PMI live in Natchez, and I often visit New Orleans since it's only a couple hours drive. But yeah you're list looks great especially if you are sight seeing antebellum homes and such. Though be cautious of where you go in New Orleans since it has got pretty ruff at night and during the day in some places. If you are near Louisiana/Mississippi area then Vicksburg is also another good small town to sight see with a lot of history there. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your stay in our country. If you're interested in old battles and wars, Vicksburg has an old civil war museum and New Orleans has a great WWII museum.

5 RepliesEdited by timafree: 7/6/2015 6:30:32 AMYou want the real USA? Go to Cleveland Ohio. That city perfectly represents what the REAL america is.
ghetto and crime next to a big pollution producer as well as immensely compacted buildings that are unnecessarily large
Looking at your destinations, I can't decide your travel motivations. Are you visiting family? Otherwise I'd say you're into American music/music history, food, or the Civil war.

1 ReplyNew Orleans. Party town. Watch yourself. If your a white boy you had best pick and choose where you go...gets a little rough there. Beware the easy women!!! Memphis. Hard to find good things about Memphis but the BBQ is amazing. Nashville. Got to go to the Grand ol Oprey ...regardless of wether you like country music or not, it's like going to Venice and not taking a boat ride...dig it. Atlanta. Downtown shopping and food. I'd say see a braves game but it's not season.
