Suggested by parts of the Elder cipher (I don't remember which) the fallen get more powerful the more ether they take in, the dregs are given smaller amounts after getting their arms docked to keep them small, obedient. Vandals are more average, and captains, barons, and kells, archons, are given copious amounts of ether to give them more power
