Apparently Microsoft finds my last name offensive...
Greetings, Guardians!
As I logged in to play Destiny yesterday, I noticed my gamertag on the Xbone, FuriousMidgett, was changed to FluffyJoey and a random series of numbers. I reached out to Xbox support, who informed me that my gamertag was deemed offensive upon review, and that I could pay to change it to something else.
Now, aside from the fact that I see EXTREMELY offensive gamertags all over the place on Live, I find it hard to understand why they didn't just look at my real name and let it go! Midgett is on my Live ID, my Windows registration, and the credit card I renew my Gold account with! This seems like laziness on their part.
Their Twitter support just linked me to their policy page about gamertags and real names, which basically says I'm SOL. If I didn't have to pay them to change it to something else it wouldn't be a big deal.

Any ideas on clever gamertags? Apparently I'm too offensive to the community by my very nature to come up with one myself. Haha!

*2nd Edit* Wow, over 400 replies! I'm amazed this caught on like it did. This has been quite entertaining. As far as all the PS4 suggestions go, I'd consider it if not for having to repurchase every game, movie, and accessory I have currently for Xbox. Plus, I just can't get used to that controller. It's a great platform though.

What they have done is wrong and the gamertag is not offensive (My opinion), they should not have changed your GT, however surely they have no legal right to take those actions, requesting you pay to change the GT they gave you is not a fair request, they should offer a free GT change.

Regardless of the fact that this gamer tag was one of the least offensive, if any at all, of the ones I've seen. Their response was so typical of money hungry corporation. Lmao dang. Back in halo 3 days when my gold would run out I use to make the new accounts for the free one month gold. I went all out with foul and disgusting GTs just for the reactions. Limp she male Hung and wet Different variations. Hahaha no fuks were given.

Mine got banned a few years ago *spartan minge*. Pretty sure it was kids just file complainting because they got rekt on halo but Microsoft let me change it for free. Then my next name also got asked to change a few months later.

1 ReplyThat can't be right, first of all your name isn't offensive, someone out there might believe it so but the majority of people would not. That being said its complete bullshit that they are going to make you pay to change it when they changed it for you without notification.

But of course, in this pathetic liberal politically correct world we live in now, which will be the downfall of society, midget has become the new "n word" for "little people". So did one day all the midgets get together and have a meeting and decide they want to be called something new? Did they march and have parades and boycott? Little people pride! How dare someone use that Xbox name!
