Apparently Microsoft finds my last name offensive...
Greetings, Guardians!
As I logged in to play Destiny yesterday, I noticed my gamertag on the Xbone, FuriousMidgett, was changed to FluffyJoey and a random series of numbers. I reached out to Xbox support, who informed me that my gamertag was deemed offensive upon review, and that I could pay to change it to something else.
Now, aside from the fact that I see EXTREMELY offensive gamertags all over the place on Live, I find it hard to understand why they didn't just look at my real name and let it go! Midgett is on my Live ID, my Windows registration, and the credit card I renew my Gold account with! This seems like laziness on their part.
Their Twitter support just linked me to their policy page about gamertags and real names, which basically says I'm SOL. If I didn't have to pay them to change it to something else it wouldn't be a big deal.

Any ideas on clever gamertags? Apparently I'm too offensive to the community by my very nature to come up with one myself. Haha!

*2nd Edit* Wow, over 400 replies! I'm amazed this caught on like it did. This has been quite entertaining. As far as all the PS4 suggestions go, I'd consider it if not for having to repurchase every game, movie, and accessory I have currently for Xbox. Plus, I just can't get used to that controller. It's a great platform though.

A friend of mine on PS4 was forced to have his changed because of the same reason. He was MIDGETPUNTR and apparently that's offensive.

1 ReplySounds like a scam. They change your name to [i]FluffyJoey[/i] without even telling you or giving you a say in the choice and then say you have to pay to change it? That's like a soft form of extortion. If I were you, I wouldn't pay a damn thing. Fight it and get them to either reinstate your original name or give you a free change.

4 RepliesAs an XBL ambassador I can say there's a website we go to, and it brings up gamertags one by one that we vote as either offensive, not offensive, or skip. So it's not overly surprising that would be flagged as offensive, we don't get access to view account info like first/last names. I'm not privvy to the inner workings of the system, whether that's a first/only step or part of a process.. I'd suspect when people report a gamertag it goes into that pool. Personally I only flag them as offensive if it's racial or religiously negative. I've got a friend who has a similar issue, his last name is Tugwell.. and he often has a new gamertag because of that.
