(Yet another Edit for those who chose not read any part and jump to the conclusion that I'm bitching, or a scrub asking for it to be easier, and all that other crap. Im simply asking for a fair challenge not the bullshit that is currently associated with the encounter overall.)
(Edit: I didnt write this to complain about not being able to beat Skolas I have beaten him I understand the basic strategy used to defeat him as well as the cheesy way to do it. I wrote this to voice my opinion on how unfair and unbalanced it actually is as a whole. The odds are stacked against you in a bad way. After beating it I didn't feel a sense of accomplishment more like a sense of relief that I got that over with. I play games to have fun and enjoy myself not to grind out unecesarily just for the sake of it)
I think they should at least say something at this point because its getting out of hand. I have yet to see an actual "legit" strategy (That works efficiently every time) to defeat him and complete the round that doesn't involve simply spamming him with (Insert weapon here). Because its much easier to just constantly DPS and spam him than to actually do it properly because of all the cheap deaths involved with the encounter. I have personally killed him many times but a few of them ended in deaths without completely finishing the encounter. Either the mine spawns next to us and he teleports into it and kills us all, we get shot down by adds trying to run for the one in mid or far side, Or one of us dies and the one left alive cant grab the essence from the other player, Only one makes it to the mine but doesn't have enough time to fully dismantle or he does it so close to the timer that we all die but we still here "success guardians" as the game over countdown begins.
I believe I have seen every possible way to fail miserably at it and its just painful, because I know its not due to lack of skill or knowledge of playing the game. None of the deaths felt like I did something wrong or deserved it they feel cheap and unwarranted. This "artificial difficulty" as I like to call it seems like Bullshit because its not even challenging or fun. Just bullet sponge enemies and bosses, countless enemies who kill you incredibly fast yet you do minimal damage to them, unrealistic/insanely difficult circumstances that cause instant failure if not achieved and so on.
I know im not the only one suffering through this because even the Top, Elite, Pro Destiny players encounter the same exact difficulties with this. Im glad they did something about Qodron they must've realised that the encounter was exaggeratedly difficult and slightly unplayable. Now its time they address Skolas. Or is it that they simply want it to be this insane so that everyone spends countless hours trying and failing at it so that time goes by till they drop the next DLC? Its the only reason I can see of why they would do this, to keep everyone busy with this "content" till the next one is ready to be put out to market. I see it as a wrong mindset because the Prison over all is quite enjoyable and worth replaying many times (Except for Skolas that is) And Trials Of Osiris is a great way to kill tons of hours just trying to stay flawless. Thanks for reading my long essay/Rant I hope it gets the right persons attention so that something can be done.

23 RepliesSKOLAS IS NOT FÛCKING BROKEN! Stop with these posts! He is easily beatable without Gjallarhorns or snipers! YOU JUST HAVE TO BE DECENT AT PLAYING THIS GODDAMN GAME TO BE ABLE TO BEAT ENDGAME CONTENT! IT'S JUST FÛCKING COMMON SENSE! ARRRRRRRRG!
-
Or strategy doesn't consist of "spamming," and it works everytime.
-
There's nothing to fix
-
2 RepliesDoesn't need to be fixed. People without the 1337 weapons just need to get better and do the fight the normal way. I tried it for lolz last week and it was actually very doable and quite fun. They did a good job on his mechanics.
-
There was no reason to make qodron easier. We killed him three times after we got weapons upgraded. Just needed patience to do it over and over till the stat was correct.
-
The strategy I use takes him down everytime. You are a scrub who cannot adapt.
-
Skolas is waaaaaaaay too easy
-
1 ReplyI may like him more this week after my buddies and I Gjallarhorn him to death x 3 this week.
-
7 RepliesIt was poorly designed. Yet again they handicap us via level cap (can only reach 34 but fight 35 enemies). Rather than make a challenging game mode they rely on the level handicap to make it tough. Bungie are lazy. Same garbage in Hard Crota. Added a wizard, removed chalice and you have a 1 level disadvantage. Poor effort.

Funny thing is. Those elitists will still be the first one to finish when things have to be done legit. The whiners will still be left in the dust.........

1 ReplyI agree with you. I've beaten it as well both with a Ghorn burn and running around in circles doing the void, arc. It's very difficult. The only thing I would change on Skolas is the timed adds. If the mines and essence are linked to Skolas' health, the adds ought to be as well. That's what overwhelms the average group. There are three mechanisms in the boss fight and one is completely independent of the system.

4 RepliesCan't fix what isn't broken m8

Tl;dr- Overwhelm over strategies. It just throws as many enemies at you with random modifiers and is not thought out at all. It doesnt reward skill it rewards loadout. One week can be a cake walk and one can be a grind, but both end up with the same possibility of rewards. Why not have it so if you beat the arc skolas you get an arc primary. Or something to differentiate between who beat what with what perks, because some are definitely harder than others but end with the same rewards.

1 Reply*all directions are from facing Skola upon entering the arena* My friends and I have beaten it since day 1 (about 9 hours after launch, having done everything else) and we have done it about the same way since. Start left, break bonds immediately with Max dps whatever that may be for the week. Cycle around the back to the right ledge and pick up the taint and survive/dps Skolas when possible. We make sure at least one of us is on a hunter for each run. When the mines spawn the hunter will hand off the taint and run far side regardless of which mine starts cause you need the head start to get the left mine in the case it spawns first. Hunter will be cycling his invis while the other two handle the taint and the right mine upon spawn. Once the first set of mines are finished we camp right ledge and dps Skola. We make sure we have full heavy/sniper prior to the second mine spawn and we burst him to death prior to the mines popping up. There, easy strategy for skola and if you can't do it either keep practicing or quit bitching.

The legit strategy is the most fun way to fight him. And yes you can use {insert element weapon type}'s just as long as you don't spam him. How my team did it during void burn: Use all void weapons but we only spammed him to remove the bonds. Then we fought until he was 50% first mines came, we defused. Then we attacked (and fled) until his health was 30% when the 2nd mines come, defused again. Then use the void weapons to kill him and we got the victory. Using whatever burn it is doesn't invalidate a "legit run" but trying to over power him with weapons isn't fun. Yes it makes it easy but it isn't "legit" to insta kill him and play the mechanics without enemies.

3 RepliesTwo words: Git Gud

I have beaten him legit strategy. Beat him in void without a void sniper or rocket. Used word of crota and gjallarhorn and swordbreaker. We just stayed as a group rotated depending on amount of adds. And timing our attack in him based on mines and debuff. Sure it took 15 minutes. But there is a legit strategy. But again I believe burning him with snipers or gjallahorn legit although not what bungie planned for fight to be
-
He's right. It looks impossible to do without a burn active.
-
Did it twice last night. Spammed him with ES, we had two Titans and hunter. Then we did it legit with two Warlocks and one hunter. Just spammed him in the beginning then running around passing the poison and shooting him in between.
-
3 RepliesIt's not so bad just need teamwork and luck my team would have had him on void burn fighting it out but one guy didn't have void weapons and we were carrying him basically but had skolas to a quarter health and two of us died and the light burn ended the match instantly even tho the guy had self res. Didn't have a team for arc so didn't try it and solar we just spammed ghorn idk how you would live otherwise.
-
Beat lvl 35 in 40-60 mins each time
-
No tldr wtf
-
3 RepliesTL;DR. What's wrong with skolas?
-
Shouldn't have to have a burn to make an activity beatable.
-
1 ReplyOh no, there's not a single weapon/strategy that works every time in an event where it's not the same every week because people want replayabilty, oh no!
