How to Improve Sub-Par Exotics: Part 2

Click here to check out Part 1, which covers Dragon's Breath, Hard Light, Invective, and Nechrocasm No Land Beyond If you thought Nechrocasm was bad… Okay, before we talk about the weapon itself. MULLIGAN. WHY?!?!?!?! WHY DOES THIS PERK EVEN EXIST?!?!?!?! IT HAS A 5% CHANCE OF HAPPENING, IT IS LITERALLY A WASTE OF SPACE!!!!!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!!!??!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!!?!!!?!?!?!?!!?!???! Alright, now onto the infamous weapon itself. A big change that many people would appreciate is if the iron sights were changed. Right now, the sights are clunky and obstruct vision. Leaving the rectangular rangefinder thing would be fine. The circles need to be stripped way down though, that’s what gets in the way the most. The time between shots is also ridiculous. Any weapon in the primary slot, even snipers, need to fire quickly enough. NLB misses that mark by about a million miles. The lever-action reload needs to start almost immediately after a shot is fired, and the animation needs to complete much more quickly as well. The reserve ammo also needs to be increased by at least 2 additional clips. Right now, you can carry up to 2 spare clips…c’mon now. This is a primary Exotic weapon. It should feel special and powerful to use, not a hassle. Now onto the perks. So we’re for sure getting rid of Mulligan. Outlaw would be a suitable replacement on this quickscope-centric weapon. Flared Magwell isn’t exactly a bad perk, but it doesn’t really add to NLB’s identity. Armor-Piercing Rounds might be a better fit in my opinion. Lastly...why does NLB have a glare? It doesn't even have a scope. Pls remov The base stats are fine, they’re actually identical to Icebreaker. Only the perks and other nuances of this weapon need change. Pocket Infinity (PI) Pocket Infinity is in a similar spot to Invective, in that it’s ALMOST in perfect shape, but not quite. The most jarring elements of this weapon are its stability, range, and charge rate. Considering that the Impact is already pretty high, combined with its Full Auto ability, the snail’s-pace charge rate is a balanced trade-off for the damage that PI can dish out. It would be appropriate to leave the charge rate as is, since you can get a minimum of DOUBLE the damage output with a single charge. The range is definitely dragging this beast down…but I don’t think a straight up base Range boost is appropriate. My proposed solution would be to take its first perk, “Surplus”, and replace it with the “Rangefinder” perk, giving increased Range when aiming down sights. You trade visibility and turn speed for faster travel time and decreased damage fall-off; that’s a pretty even trade. Lastly, the PI can afford a slight boost to Stability. I agree that PI should have strong recoil on its shots, but at the moment it kicks like an angry horse. A slight increase from 15/100 to 25/100 or 30/100 would do. The Perfect Balance perk currently increases stability to 55/100, which I believe should still stay the same even after the base Stability is increased. Super Good Advice (SGA) In its current state, Bungie might as well rename this weapon “Pretty Terrible Advice” (I’ll be here all week, people.) There is one thing that this weapon got right: the Exotic perk. Aside from that, SGA needs reworking in almost every area. Let’s start with the stats: Impact and RoF are fine, and the low Range is acceptable, considering SGA’s identity. Everything else sucks. It doesn’t matter how big the magazine is, or if the shots that miss almost always return if the stability and recoil make every round miss their mark. The recoil on this weapon is absolutely ridiculous. SGA either needs a buff to Stability or reduced Recoil (yes, those are separate stats.) Or even both! It’s not fun to use a wild gun like this, it’s frustrating. There needs to be a good reason to choose an Exotic weapon over any Legendary weapon. SGA should be the ultimate bullet-hose type of machine gun. Right now, its magazine size is almost half of the machine gun with the highest possible magazine size. SGA’s magazine size needs a boost from its pitiful 58 capacity. I honestly think it needs an increase to 90-100 shots per magazine. To balance this it out, it should only have enough reserve ammo for one additional magazine. The reload speed is also pretty long, but if the magazine size is increased, it should be a balanced trade-off. A few of the perks could do with some changes, namely in the second column. “Flared Magwell” is a good option to have, while “Hand Loaded” and “Single-Point Sling” don’t do so well on SGA. Suitable alternatives would be “Persistence” (to complement the ‘hold the trigger down’ design) and “High Caliber Rounds” (for perma-flinching enemies in PvE.) Lastly, this gun is supposed to have a built-in AI…it would be nice if this AI would actually talk to us! Borderlands has such guns, it would be a fun treat for wielders of this weapon. It would also add to the “Exotic” factor of SGA. ----- I’ve spent a whole lot of time figuring out how to improve these Exotic weapons, and I feel confident that this is the direction to go in for these Exotics to get up to snuff. However, this is of course my own opinion, and I only worked on this by myself. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Simo Häyhä, the greatest sniper of all time used a bolt action sniper and landed himself about 500 sniper kills. Why did he use bolt action? Because a bolt action has no glint. In other words... WHY THE HELL DOES THE NLB HAVE A GLINT IT DOESNT EVEN HAVE A GOD DAMN SCOPE?!?!

    • The base stats on NLB are not fine, it should do more than 126 to the body & should have enough impact to snipe through revive shields in skirmish. It's impact Stat in game lies. It does the same damage as the PR from VOG.

    • NLB- remove the zoom and I'd be happy. Lens flare should be gone too and it should do waay more damage imo but I'd be fine with just taking the ridiculous zoom off. Pocket Infinity- I wish that they just kicked the gun out of crucible so that we could get the 8 rd mag back

    • NLB does not have the same base stats as icebreaker, icebreaker has higher impact. Proof: go to crucible with weapons of light- icebreaker can one shot to the body, NLB cannot. The stats lie.

    • Also, MIDA Muti tool doesn't have a hair trigger, you should talk about that. It's increase in player agility is unbearably cool, and it's a great weapon, but it could be even better if the weapon fired as fast as you pulled the trigger.

      • Very much agree with your changes to NLB. I think it's exotic perk could use some improvements as well, perhaps stacking precision shots speeds up the re chamber animation. I would love to see if you have any ideas for improving the 4th Horseman as well. It's currently a worse version of the Invective with even less applications.

      • Supposedly SGA is excellent for killing oracles as they don't count as enemies, but I agree with you about the needed tweaks to these weapons. Also perhaps the cascade perk on the Necro and Eidolon should be swapped for outlaw? It would make the weapon pretty much insta-reload, which would help negate the small clip size.

      • Not every exotic is meant to be equal to all other exotics or even to legedary weapons or armor. exotic did not ever mean the best of the best. it meant fancy toy with perks not see on legendaries or lower.

The old exotics are fine for the most part. But all the dark below exotics need some kinds of buff

          • Doing the pocket infinity bounty now, but feels like a waste since the nerf. Of course my only other exotic bounty option was SGA which sounds great for VOG but my VoC is perfectly adequate for oracle busting.
