So I stumbled upon this a while back and it did take me some time to muscele threw this video but I will not expect anyone to watch the full thing if you do more power to you. At 40:50 they show a graph of what happened back in E3 when they first drop the trailer for destiny, it clearly shows that bungie did know that they were blowing smoke up everyone's ass and sat there to rake in the money. At anytime from that year till release they could have done something but didn't.
Idk about u guys but if they charge for Comet HoW will be my last adventure with bungie. Its been fun, halo was amazing, destiny had a shit ton of potential.
Hope companys take after CD projekt with all their free dlc.
Let the hate rain upon me
Edit: Spread the word fokes lets not have this be a trending in the gaming industry. Maybe day a company will have the balls to admitt a -blam!- up and fix it.
Edit: getting good shit outta this lets keep it up ppl
Edit: Nice to see about half of u have similiar opinions about this, not too shocking to see the other half like throwing money at a problem till its fixed lol

it clearly shows that bungie did know that they were blowing smoke up everyone's ass
Not taking sides but I would like to clarify. The graph he shows is to demonstrate how game developers should plan their game engines in such a way that it can accept the huge amounts of future content it will receive without dying in the process and requiring a rewrite, modifications, or quick fix. As he says 'Content Arrives Quickly' - artists can create new assets for development much quicker than a developer can transform those assets into actual game assets. And when pushing these huge updates that are delivering a GB or more of content, you need a game engine that can receive, sort, distribute, and deliver that content effectively without crashing. Also in regards to the E3 demo he mentioned, YES you are partially correct. It would appear Bungie hired a large group of artists to come in and polish the demo so that it looked amazing when presented at E3. Consequently, this is also why they suggest that the final game will be open world and you can explore all terrain. However, it would seem that once the game was closer to ship they realized that this was not possible when porting to older consoles because of memory/technology constraints. Thus the final game was toned down to accommodate a larger audience - this is why I don't agree with game companies making next-gen games and then porting them to last-gen consoles, but what ya going to do? They want as much money as they can get. I think the overarching theme is Bungie over-estimated what they could develop in the timetable they had to work with. I think they truly believed vanilla Destiny would be more than it is. This guy clearly states that they made many mistakes and false assumptions when creating the new engine that required them to go back and rewrite core functionality to accommodate what they were trying to deliver. So the framework is there, it would seem, and can be expanded upon in the future. Future iterations of Destiny should be more up to the standards we were all looking for, but I still don't feel that excuses them from the lack of features they actually delivered. Anyways, my point is I don't think they were 'blowing smoke' up anyone's ass, I think they simply thought they could deliver more than they actually did - which isn't to say they aren't working on making that happen now. Thanks for posting this, it really changed my opinion on a few things in Destiny. TL;DR - stop being a lazy and just read it

Wow (slow clap) the chart was obviously about how the more content you have with the more things shared between them I.E. shaders for armor able to be used on all armor overlapping creating more code than the processing engine can handle, and so thats what the chart is for red line content blue line the engine ability to process content within given capabilities.

1 ReplyLmao so you think it's ok to charge for the first two medium sized expansions, but one massive one should be free?
-
1 ReplyI'm in the same boat I believed the hype and night the season pass when I bought the game, only to be disappointed. I will play through house of wolves because I paid for it. And if I don't see major improvements and a low cost or free comet dlc I will not be playing this game after HoW
-
1 ReplyDon't you know? Money is our God . What do you expect ?
-
11 RepliesI'd give a -blam!-, but your girlfriend already took all mine.

HoW is gonna be shit! 2 exotics and 67 new ships what kinda shit is that? I'd say don't get HoW but come back for comet.

4 RepliesI've been following Destiny from the first announcement all the way through to release. I remember the videos, images, concept art, blah blah blah that showed what Destiny was pre-launch. Yep, Destiny post-launch is only (I'm just throwing out a number here) 40% of what they first put on the display. Hell, even the Companion App was more involved and tied into the game than it's current involvement with the website. - Inclement weather - Time of day was based on our own solar system's time of day in correlation to the planet/moon you were on - Pikes were what our sparrows are (without the front cannons) - Large playable areas that could be vastly explored - Weapons were class based - Bosses dropped loot - Faction Shaders/Ships were purchasable - Warlocks were originally a Saboteur class, primarily focusing on buffing friendlies, debuffing enemies.
"Would you like to know more?"
It doesn't take watching a video to know any of this and realize Destiny Now is not Destiny Then. Guess what? Knowing this, I still pre-ordered. I still stood in line for a midnight release. I still purchased it. I'm still playing it. In fact, looks like you still are too. So, what's the point of this post or any like it? 5 minutes of Internet Champion Forum Fame? It won't get you anything. This can reach over 9,000 likes and be the #1 Trending topic and Bungie still won't admit it, change it, rehash it or whatever. Maybe come Comet, they've learned a thing or two or, at the very least (one can hope) Destiny 2 is what Destiny 1 should have been. TL:DR - Destiny isn't what it was supposed to be. Does it upset me? No, just disappointing. Do I still enjoy the game? You bet your ass I do! It's simple. If you like it, continue to play it. If you don't like it and feel like you were "robbed", cowboy up, move on and stop indirectly necroing forum threads that countless others before you posted.

15 RepliesFrom what I've heard, comet will be free
-
An hour of my time is worth about $5. Yours is probably similar with how much you pay for movies and such. Since I have close to 8 days play time I'm pretty satisfied
-
Ok. I don't care. And comet is supposed to have as much content as the first game, so it should be priced accordingly.
-
The game is a great game I'm gonna pre order the next one and halo 5. 60 dollars for a game is nothing considering the time we put into them.
-
Yea don't care, still buying it.
-
3 RepliesThey most certainly are charging you for comet! Lol, 12 story missions, a new subclass, and a bunch more stuff is not going to be fore free
-
hmm maybe a TL:DS would be aproriate: what this guy is saying: - Bungie didnt start from scratch with the new engine, so they had a lot of legacy "trash" in code that slowed them and the engine down. - the Engines ability to cope with content was growing significantly slower than the content that was developed, leading to content cuts to keep performance. - the development was kinda Chaotic (Deej already confirmed this in a post) because there were not enough "law enforcement" in the development thus leading to a lot of "patches" in code that slowed down the process way more than they expected. STL:DR: New Game Engine not growing fast enough to add content.. . . . . explanation: even the small shader business is posing a HUGE threat to the engine.. every shader needs to be processed and displayed, with every possible combination of armor so its.. n#(shaders) x n#(armorpiece) x n#(Class) x n#(Console) leading to a shitload of possible solutions.. (possible that this is the reason why weapons don't have shaders) a fully customizable shader would have added another "x n#(color) to it.. any sublass for example "upper arm" vs "lower arm" on a gauntlet would have added another mulitplicator.. but since it IS possible (see warframe) there is a way to actually do this without an "meadow shooter"-style "semi - open world..

I don't even care tbh 30 or so dollars is nothing, and if it makes me enjoy this game even more im willing to pay. Plus if you seriously think about it, bungie will make the comet cost money. As if people are just gonna drop everything they have played just because they have to pay extra?
-
They do need to keep the servers running, which will cost them quite a bit. Basically it's a subscription based game, the subscription fee is just called dlc here. That's why they try to force everyone to buy it, by making it's content the most frequent nightfall. And really, if you don't buy the dlc, you'll get bored quickly and quit anyways, subscription canceled. It's also why i have absolutely no hope for the comet dlc being free.
-
You know what.. Destiny can be better and it should only because Destiny deserves to be the best. But I've put in almost 600 hours. I've never put in that much into any other game. I've got my moneys worth.
-
I watched your video. I think you completely missed the point of the graph you called out. It was simply to illustrate how content can quickly overwhelm an engine while still in development. I really don't understand the point you're trying to make.
-
Idgac I just love the gameplay and in my opinion it's worth it.

3 RepliesEdited by Utmost-Nutszo: 3/18/2015 9:28:23 PMLOL. Yawn... When are you people going to realize that just b/c something is done before release doesn't mean you're entitled to it? You buy what they choose to make available. It doesn't matter what environments, weapons, etc were completed pre-launch - a launch package is put together with X amount of content and you choose whether or not to buy it. Don't blame Bungie b/c you didn't wait for a review. Don't blame Bungie b/c you aren't familiar with how MMOs (which this is btw) roll out content. Ignorance is no excuse. You can blame Bungie on their poor TDB marketing. Should've been called a content update instead of expansion. Initial investment doesn't make you entitled to anything but what came along with it. I've said this before, but all the tech that you buy was completed way before you bought it's predecessor. If you don't think the iPhone 6s or 7 was already finished before you bought the 6, you're utterly uninformed. I hold any dev accountable for bad moves and Bungie has made some poor decisions with certain things in regards to Destiny, but what you guys are complaining about isn't one of them. Want to complain about 32s getting Ascendant Shards as Nightfall rewards - I'm with you there. Crota's End not forcing players to carry their own weight? - I'm there with you on that one too. But in regards to it's initial content offering and the way they are rolling out subsequent content, complaining is a sign of ignorance. Plain and simple.
-
Bungievision screwed over its player base plain and simple. It's all about money! Hype something up that's not even close to what was advertised. Every week this game becomes more of a chore than something to play for fun. I don't want to waste my money so I'm going to play HoW. But after that, I don't know if I will continue.
