People let me tell you all something, metal may be to some people just banging heads on walls and screaming but seriously, there are only a few kinds of music that actually have musical talent:
-ROCK
-METAL
-CLASSICAL
everything else has no talent instrumentally, pop goes between about a range of 3-12 different notes, and it is constant, rap just is terrible all there is to do is not stop talking while speaking really fast, dubstep and techno is people screwing around on computers.
People tell me if I'm wrong, I know I'm not but tell me if I am and why.
Edit 1: country also has talent, I am not a huge fan but after much chatter below I realized I forgot country
Edit 2: jazz as well has talent, I however mentally put that in the classical catagory
Edit 3: blues as well has much talent, however it is also under the classical tree

Only way you can call something objectively bad is if it's out of tune, out of time, or performed poorly. If it's not that, it's just opinion.

20 RepliesThe rock/metal/simmilar genres died with Kurt cobain.

14 RepliesStudies show that people who listen to metal are far more intelligent then people who prefer other genres of music. It's because we find the complexity far more stimulating. I however prefer metal with out lyrics and I really hate the fact that so many poser metal bands turn it into a fashion statement. Also in response to edit 1: no country isn't. It's all cowboy chords and if you play an instrument you'll know what I mean. The exception I would consider would be bluegrass.

2 RepliesEdited by Neno is drunk: 3/19/2015 5:55:49 PMI'm neutral on metal. But I've noticed that lots of metal heads hate on everything that isn't metal and classical. Saying stuff like "it takes no talent to rap!" Or " they're just pushing buttons on a computer" Makes you guys seem kind of close minded and ignorant. You don't have to like it, but to say that other types of music takes no talent is just plain wrong. Edit: free styling is hard as shit. I could probably learn how to play slayer riffs on the guitar before I'd could learn how to freestyle like king los.

1 ReplyHoly shit are you wrong. > Pop quite often incorporates tough musical styles (funky slap bass is pretty common), absolute top of the line production skills, and often fuses multiple styles. Its not always straightforward. > Rap is about the Lyrical content, with a side helping of skilled production and sequencing depending on what branch of rap we are referencing > Dubstep, techno, DnB and all music of that ilk boils down to amazing production and sequencing abilities. Buildups, drops, immaculately chosen and polished sounds, with an obsessive level of attention paid to the automation on each sound. And to top it all off, you completely failed to mention Jazz, which sits alongside Classical as musics ultimate form. Both genres have given us the finest, most complete musicians on the planet. To play Jazz requires you to know music theory inside out, to a degree that no other style, not even classical, does. So to cite instrumental superiority and fail to mention Jazz shows how little you know. Please -blam!- off and actually learn how different genres truly work before you slate them you absolute elitist twat.
pop goes between about a range of 3-12 different notes, and it is constant
There are only 12 notes in western music. You are saying pop uses all of them which would be the opposite of constant. Plus that's not accurate; it will use 8 at most. Metal, however, sometimes utilizes every note.
People tell me if I'm wrong, I know I'm not
Yes you are. You aren't even taking world music into consideration. Gamalan, Takht, Mbira music, etc. Those aside, here are American genres with "musical talent": zydeco, dixieland jazz, slack-key guitar, score music for movies, ragtime, musicals. I think you're mainly saying pop music has no musical talent which most of the time is true. So many pop songs are centered around the first, fourth, fifth and minor sixth chords of whatever key they are in. That's mostly because pop music is tailored towards people who want to listen in their car or doing something else and want background music. It's simple so people can sing to the chorus after only listening a few times.
Edit 3: blues as well has much talent, however it is also under the classical tree
Blues is not under the classical tree. I agree that metal has a lot of musical content as well as the other genres you listed. But just because your taste is very finite doesn't mean anything outside it lacks musical talent.

Why the heck are blues and jazz under classical? You also have a very narrow view of what musical skill entails. And to answer the question, the edgy fanbase and the music's highly aggressive nature is why it is disliked.
-
Because metal just sounds like people breaking their instruments then selling it.
-
Because most people who listen to metal think it makes them harcore, and so they act like absolute twats (just like you, OP). So even though metal itself is pretty good, if you say you like it then people think you're retarded.

Its too loud

It's because they haven't heard the Rust In Peace album.

Edited by ZEE-33S: 3/19/2015 1:57:01 PMI like all types of rock, metal, even some of the pop/rock stuff. And I dislike rap, pop, country, basically everything else, but I still respect anyone who can make a living making what they love.

3 RepliesI do not hate all genres of music. I LOVE metal. Metal is my home. Of course, I like other genres for different reasons. I don't like filth rap, pop, or reggae. (Filth being only sexual junk). I also hate honk-tonk country, but other than that it's all right. The only rapper I actually like is Eminem. But bby, talk metal to me.

Edited by Shadow792: 3/19/2015 3:09:36 AMWell my question is why do you care what ppl think? If you like it listen to it, screw what ppl think, listen to what you like and do what makes you happy, don't let ppl influence you especially over something like this.....just sayin..

1 ReplyInstrumental talent has little to do with compositional talent.

Same reason they hate on electronic without realizing that a lot of pop IS electronic music
