As evident by the title, I am looking to start watching anime. Since I haven't touched it, nor know any, I'd like some suggestions for some you guys have watched or know about.
If possible, give me some details so I can attempt to determine if I'd be interested in it or not.
Yes, I'm aware there are threads like this, but I didn't feel like scrolling through about 200 religious and atheist threads to find it.
2 RepliesBasically, what's going to be suggested here is stuff that's popular, but not necessarily brilliant, so really if you want to get a good idea of anime you just have to watch a lot, because anime covers such a wife range of genres and styles that unless you dislike the idea of animated shows and Japanese speaking there's probably going to be something for you

Edited by NaLo: 3/17/2015 12:04:58 AMMight as well start with the good stuff. I recommend Neon Genesis Evangelion + End of Evangelion. It's a classic! It starts off as a kids show but it gets progressively darker and more disturbing as it goes on. If you like technology, cyberpunk, and intelligent storylines then you should watch Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It had great animation too (except for the intro). And please watch the sub when you watch anime. The dub doesn't have the same emotional impact.

Watch Death Note. The story is deep and brilliant, the artwork is great. And the show isnt very long

5 RepliesNaruto. Best anime.

2 RepliesDragon ball z Only anime I'll ever love

Code Geass is one of the best anime to start on imo, it's generally accepted as one of the best anime of it's genre, and it's a pretty good introduction to what you might expect from the rest of anime

I try to stay away from that stuff that creepy. Cause to be honest some of it is -blam!-ed up and sexually creepy Eureka 7 Attack on titan

4 RepliesCowboy Bebop It's a space opera about bounty hunters. A bit more serious than a lot of anime out there so they don't have a lot of the typical anime tropes (the cutesy kind) but it still has its light hearted moments. It's also only one season so you can get through it pretty quickly, making it a good way to test the water. Basically, if you've watched and enjoyed Firefly, it's a lot like a cartoon version of that.

3 RepliesEdited by Gloominatti: 3/15/2015 5:51:29 AMWell my brother is really big on anime, and when I asked him one series for me to watch out of the dozens he's seen, he told me to watch "My Bride is a Mermaid" and I regret nothing. It's probably one of the funniest things I've ever watched ever, and everyone I've ever shown it to thought the same. It's about a kid that nearly drowns but is saved by a mermaid. Due to mermaid law he must either marry the chick or die. It's full of funny/awkward moments and humorous animation.
Massa!
The Gundam series are all fantastic. Gundam 00 and Gundam Wing are the ones I'd start with. Good story, great action, and not a whole lot of fan service. Evangelion is also another good one to start with. And Gurren Lagann was awesome as well but is has a little more fan service. If you like fan service then High school dxd, heavens lost property, witchblade, and sekirei are all great ones too.

Akame ga Kill is great. If you want something more slice of life, Your Lie in April had a great story. I usually prefer action genre anime and rarely do I ever deviate but YLIA was an exception I made.

The first anime I saw was Ghost in the Shell. Future time where humans are mostly cyborg. Very few don't have some type of implants. The story is about a special police unit that investigates cyber crime on a large scale. The movie is awesome and the multiple TV series are really good too!

first thing you should watch is cowboy bebop space bounty hunters. one of them is a dog.
