So flood, as we all know the socially acceptable name for people of color is African American. Do you agree with this label? (At least in the USA)
Personally, I don't. They are black, in no way are they African. They are Americans with black skin, that's it, not African. Also, what do Europeans call people who are black? African German?
Edit: To those saying people. I understand they're people, but if you had to describe someone you won't say they are human. Usually you would go off skin color, hair color, height, and weight.

Edited by Sheogorath : 2/27/2015 12:25:13 AMThe term "African American" is a term referring to nationality, not race. It refers to an African person who then became an American and is thus, an "African American". This is his NATIONALITY, not his RACE. Mexican = Nationality Latino = Race Chinese = Nationality Asian = Race Etc... My point is that one does not have to be black to be African American. If a white person were born in Africa and moved to the US, he would be a white African American. Likewise, just because someone is black and lives in the US does not mean that he or she is an African American. On another note, what are black people called in the UK? Black. What are they called in Latin countries? Negros. This is their race

I say "black". I had a friend from Ghana in college who would go on a tirade every time someone said "African American" unless you immigrated from Africa. Always said "Blacks and whites in America have more in common than American and African blacks. Call yourself what you are. American."

Black. I have a friend who HATES it when people call him African American because he's neither. He's actually Jamaican and moved to America as a child.
