Let's say I'm an overweight teenaged girl with major insecurities and self-esteem issues. I ask you(my friend) why it is that there aren't any guys who like me. How would you go about providing gentle honesty?
I'd tell you that
A. Most of them are idiots
B. That you might want to try being more confident, and not give a crap about what other people think.
Chances are pointing out that you were overweight would already be obvious to you and it would just be pointless to point that out.
Your first point about the general male population being idiots wouldn't help any. Also, they can't be blamed for wanting to be with physically attractive women as it's only nature to prefer healthy, fit mates.
The second point is legitimately helpful. However, what if she were to improve her confidence and was still unable to get any boys to like her?
Obviously it's no help, but that argument could be made about anything you say as it is ultimately the decision of the person as to what they do.
There is nothing else to do.
No amount of words would fix the issue, so if you needed a person to talk to I'd be there. Nothing else to do.
