What we really need is nuclear fusion. That would really power things up.

Combining atoms together. It uses more energy to do it, but in effect releases even more than that. Stars are nuclear fusion factories. They are why we have such a large amount of elements of iron and below. Supernovas make all the rest until you get to 98.
