I'm sure I can't be the only one who wants to continue using Vault gear, or even Crota gear once the next expansion is released, and it too is made irrelevant. It's because of this I have devised a way to make ALL raid gear that currently, and will exist, viable in years to come.
My plan is to introduce a series of new items; catalysts. These catalysts will be named by the upgrade materials of each expansion, and drop on occasion when dismantling their respective raid gear. For example, Crota's end gear can drop a "Radiant Catalyst". In a similar way to how you would upgrade a rare ship to a legendary one using drive sold by Xûr, you can upgrade old raid gear to the newest light level with said catalyst. The upgrade will reset progression, enabling you to re-level it to the new cap. The balance is that you would still be required to do the newest raid to obtain the armor and the catalyst which it contains.
It may seem like a small and unimportant feature now, but in the future when there are more sets of raid gear than you can count on each of your hands, the system will allow people to have the best gear for doing the most difficult tasks, while still looking different from one another. As it stands now, if you want to perform the best(In PvE, IB, and Trials of Osiris), you are forced to look like a clone of everyone else; Shaders and class items being the only form of expression. I don't think that's right, and I'd love for a change that will make everyone happy. Let me know what you think of my idea

Wow has been around over 10 years. Based on the principle of gated levelling through ever improved epics that make the previous set redundant. Obs, they only bring out major content every year, but still. This is a level based game. You achieve, bin, grind, move on. It suits a certain type of player, maybe not all. Reality is they are unlocking stuff on the disc, level progression is screwed and they are releasing 'expansions' fast track to mitigate damage - so the gated curve is somewhat accelerated. Chasing shinies is what RPG MMO is about. Chase or don't, your choice - let's face it, content doesn't make gear relevant anyway unless you are hard mode crotas. That's the other thing this misses - alongside gated gear wow and others give you massive content updates that make the grind worth it. You might say that bits missing from Destiny

1 ReplyWhile I like your idea (I'd love to rock a VoG Hard-Mode helmet on my Titan forever), I look at these games like real life. In real life, if more advanced armor was crafted from the experiences of war, or more specialized armor was crafted for a particular task, all soldiers would turn in their stuff and get the newest and best. No current military force rocks chain mail, flak jackets are a thing of the past, and even plate armor is starting to be replaced by ceramic and polymer-based armor. I agree that looking different in a game that pushed individuality would be really cool...but it isn't like Master Chief rocks Mjolnir Mk4 armor because it looked the coolest. In a military, standardization is reality. Yes, it is cool to customize your shader and your mark (two items that should be EVEN MORE customizable), but we wouldn't be guardians running around with open-faced helmets just because we want to look different. Often enough, the best armor means mass adoption. It would be sweet to customize coloring, or visor color, or class marks, or whatever, but I understand why armor tends to look the same.

3 Repliesgreat idea but they would never do it because VOG is the last raid my friend if you look at any other game with raids they had never such a thing so i will say it again to every one else who had the same thought you are wasting your energy so stop.

Yes please. I'd much rather use VoG gear, and this could bring back all the kickass guns from said raid.

Bungie won't do this. it makes too much sense. If you haven't noticed they're all about making things harder and more senseless everyday

Remember to bump it up if you want it to be seen
