This Made My Day...

So, after a long day of Iron Banner, I decide to head back to the tower to see if my bounties had reset, they didnt... This tower was oddly quiet though, no one running around, no christmas newbies jumping up and down after coming back to the tower with their big haul, It was just quiet. Im about to head out into orbit until suddenly a lone message appears at the top of my screen. I think to myself "oh god not another crota invite." I go to the dashboard hestitantly and click messages. It was a quaint, small message from a lone lvl 27 in the tower asking me to run the nightfall with him, that since hes been playing this game hes been alone. I stare at the message my eyes squinted and my heart drooping. I think queitly to myself, that I dont have time for this, that I dont want to. As im about to click back my heart kicks in and tells me just do it. So I invite him to a private session and we begin the nightfall together. I of course have already done it and wasnt really expecting anything. For a lvl 27 this guy was pulling his weight. Reviving me when he could, attempting to do damage. We finally get to sepiks prime and kill the bastard. I was really hoping for him to get an exotic, to make this nightfall special and he did, he got the "Helm of Inmost Light" for his/her titan. I turn around and see him jumping with glee dancing about the new exotic he just recieved. I think to myself, "my job here is done." I leave to go to orbit and continue to go about my day. Moral of the story, if you see someone that is new dont be afraid to give them a hand and show them the ropes, because remember, everyone was new once, even you. EDIT: Thanks to everyone for the great comments! :) I never thought this would get so many of them, make sure to share your stories down below and keep on keepin on. EDIT: Im providing free nightfall/weekly runs, for anyone that needs to do them. New, experienced, old, young, whatever it may be ill help you get it done. PSN: Leonatius (PS4)

Well done. I think everyone should try something selfless once in a while. I think it's fun to help out others, and it feels good. I was trying to run the nightfall with my level 27 warlock yesterday with some randoms, and failed at it a few times. I was really hoping to make it through, but my guardian was admittedly a little weak. I found on the forum a posting from someone who offered to take lower levels through the nightfall. I jumped on the offer, but played other things a while without hearing from the guy. Then, as I was considering ending my playing session, I got an invite. Sure enough, this guy was maxed out and made the nightfall look easy. Despite the fact that I was rewarded with 9 energies, and the other level 27 got the Gjhally (spelled however), I was more appreciative of my fellow guardian's generosity, and made sure to send him a thank you.

  • I used to hate the Christmas noobs. But after reading this it completely changed the way I think of new guardians. And I remember the struggle. This was an inspiration. And even though this is just a game. Your a good man for what you did

  • Oh man, I was expecting you to say "A minute after he got his exotic, I saw a message below that says he had receive an exotic shard. Mother f-er sharded it!" or "He didn't get anything because he had already ran it. He was just bored" Good on you man

  • Hence my 66 Crotas End completions. I often spend more time helping others than I do myself.

  • It always makes me feel good inside when I help out a low level guy. Even something as simple as handing a Sword of Crota Sword over to a level 4 and watching him decimate his opponents. I can walk away with a smile c:

    • The moral of the story is if you need help, ask nicely, don't just spam the invite to fireteam. Newb was looked after because he wasn't a douche.

    • Kinda was my situation last night.. I am lvl 27 and attempted the hard weekly playing solo. I got to Sepkis Prime but after a few deaths there I packed it in as it was looking like it would take too long to work out a good, slow, solo, grindfest win.

      • I too am open to random invites from the Tower to do something or other. I get mixed results on the type of people I end up with. Most recently it was some group looking for additional person to do Vault of Glass on. I went along, cause why not, hadn't done VoG in a while. It was fun. So I endorse your message/story... people should bother trying to find people in Tower, and people should be receptive if they can. Whats good for the community is good for the players.

      • That makes my day as well, I watched someone get red death from night fall the other day and he jumped for joy. I had a clutch moment in Vog Templar and a first full runner got fatebringer and we listened to him cry on the mic in excitement.

      • These are the kind of posts I look for every day but hardly ever see. I too occasionally get asked to help a "noobie" and get some good feelings from it. Recently, my best game friend and I (both lvl 31 Warlocks) were in the Tower when a lvl 6 player asked me to help him. I told my friend that I was curious why a lvl 6 would want me to join him and maybe he had another character of higher lvl he would switch to for NF or whatever he wanted. As it turns out - it was a 9 yr old boy stuck on a mission. After we did it (allowing him to get the majority of kills for XP) - he acclaimed "you guys are going to be my best friends in the whole world." She and I had such a nice chuckle and such a good feeling from helping him out it is hard to describe. Hearing him yell out in happiness that he moved up to lvl 7 was pure ambrosia. And you are right sir, we were all new at some point. We all were feeling our way around stumbling and falling off cliffs and such (I still do that occasionally lol) and we all had to work on leveling up our toons and guns and armor. Some of us were often teamed with a player or two that progressed super fast and watched in awe as he shot his Exotic weapon and killed so easily. Now a new crop of what are called "Christmas Noobies" abound and some have a pretty new IB - hey I just bought mine too, lol - and are having a blast shooting at everything that walks. This is just a game and way too many players take it as it is real life and it matters so very much. Hey, I can't get this bloody game out of my mind all day long until I come home from work to play it but it still remains a game no matter how glorious or sucky as some of you think it is. That is the reason people shouldn't vent in the way they so often do - like someone suckerpunced their mom or something. We all can play this game in the manner that most satisfies us. Some of us are studs (not me boo hoo) and can wade in and blast anything to smithereens. Others like me have to take cover and use a more careful approach looking to revive my mates, snipe away with my pretty new IB and often wade in as well and pound and ground with my COV or MIDA or grenades or super or something. I don't care if a player on my team is laying back and doing damage to something. I only don't care for those that might never shoot a bullet or pulse or whatever or maybe worse leave the fireteam leaving only myself and another at most to do the rest. OK on most strikes since I could solo most of them like most of you can as well - but some are harder and would take way too much time to do it solo so that sucks to do that. I have to believe that when I go into a strike and most of the time the other two are just hanging back that they are looking at each others' profiles and using that to determine if they will play with them or not. That is just moronic. I will play with anyone at any age, whichever gender, no matter whether they are a raid or crucible stud or both or neither like me, lol. I hold my own in any strike. Sometimes I do make mistakes like in last nights run at NF. I died just before the last part because the other two ran in with their sparrows past the gobs of ads we all left to focus on the tank. I tried to get in and got killed. Next time if that happens - I lay back kill them all with my IB and then waltz into the last part and probably kill the big boss as I very often do. I know fellows that this is all just a rant - but be patient with me as I am at work - frustrated I can't be home on this bloody rainy day to play instead and am typing so fast so I can get back to working. I do love to play with anyone who wants to play with me at any level and my psn is the same as above and PS4, with mic. I am 54. have carpal tunnel which does slow me up after playing for a couple of hours and I always show respect to my mates regardless of age or gender. That is me, AnthonyR1969 in a nutshell. I am glad once again to read this post by a real nice guy so thanks fellow Guardian.
