This Made My Day...

So, after a long day of Iron Banner, I decide to head back to the tower to see if my bounties had reset, they didnt... This tower was oddly quiet though, no one running around, no christmas newbies jumping up and down after coming back to the tower with their big haul, It was just quiet. Im about to head out into orbit until suddenly a lone message appears at the top of my screen. I think to myself "oh god not another crota invite." I go to the dashboard hestitantly and click messages. It was a quaint, small message from a lone lvl 27 in the tower asking me to run the nightfall with him, that since hes been playing this game hes been alone. I stare at the message my eyes squinted and my heart drooping. I think queitly to myself, that I dont have time for this, that I dont want to. As im about to click back my heart kicks in and tells me just do it. So I invite him to a private session and we begin the nightfall together. I of course have already done it and wasnt really expecting anything. For a lvl 27 this guy was pulling his weight. Reviving me when he could, attempting to do damage. We finally get to sepiks prime and kill the bastard. I was really hoping for him to get an exotic, to make this nightfall special and he did, he got the "Helm of Inmost Light" for his/her titan. I turn around and see him jumping with glee dancing about the new exotic he just recieved. I think to myself, "my job here is done." I leave to go to orbit and continue to go about my day. Moral of the story, if you see someone that is new dont be afraid to give them a hand and show them the ropes, because remember, everyone was new once, even you. EDIT: Thanks to everyone for the great comments! :) I never thought this would get so many of them, make sure to share your stories down below and keep on keepin on. EDIT: Im providing free nightfall/weekly runs, for anyone that needs to do them. New, experienced, old, young, whatever it may be ill help you get it done. PSN: Leonatius (PS4)

    • I had a similar one recently myself. I was in the tower doing towery stuff when an invite came in from a random. I usually will help out when asked, though sometimes I'm busy trying to get my own stuff done. But I wasn't in any particular hurry so I decided to join in. It was two guys looking for help completing their first nightfall ever. They were level 28 and 29, but I was 31 and it was Rockets McDickface so I figured we'd be able to do it. I showed them how to use the box at the entrance to the final room as cover and we got through it. They both received legendary guns and were stoked. I ended up adding them both to my friends list and have done some random bounties/dailies with them since. Friday night I had finished doing a Crota/VoG back to back run with my usual raid team and was heading back to the tower to put away my newly acquired loot when an invite comes in from one of the guys from above. I was tired and wanted to go to bed but I checked out what he was up to. He was in the VoG with a fire team of 5. I still needed to do the vault on one character so I switched over and joined in. As soon as I get in I see that we're at the Gatekeeper and people are confused as hell. "What are we supposed to be doing here? Are we building something again?" and Guardian Down! Guardian Down! over and over. We then lost another player and were back down to five. I don't normally take over a fire team but it was clear this was their first time in the Vault. So after another wipe I got everyone to gather together and laid out the strategy. We sniped down the Gatekeeper and hustled to the left. I figured it would be better for these guys to learn instead of be carried so I sent two into the portal with instructions to kill the Hydra, grab the relic and smashy-smashy their way out. I did my best to explain the mechanics of the relic and what was going on overall. Once they came out I sent everyone to the right portal and made the other two go in so everyone had a chance to experience it. I did my best to hold down the conflux myself since I was a Titan with a pretty purple bubble. After a few failed attempts we managed to get both relics and were killing minotaurs left and right when suddenly the relic holders panicked. "The relic just disapppeared! Is this a glitch?" Nope, we beat the Gatekeeper, boys. Since we were down to five I figured the Atheon fight would be a struggle. But again I made sure that everyone picked up the relic at least once and didn't take it myself. The first few times everyone was just randomly shooting at Atheon so I explained the center platform strategy. We only had five and I was the only one using Ice Breaker (or any other high DPS leg/exotic) so we weren't able to finish Atheon off before everyone was tired and wanted to call it a night. But we did pretty good for a team of five with four Vault newbs ranked in the high 20's. And hopefully they all feel a little more comfortable in the raid and are excited to do it more often.

      • About 2 months ago I had a similar occurrence. Random in the tower messaged me about what level he had to be in order to raid (I assume he was mirin' the raid gear). I answered his Q and thought nothing of it. The next day he asked me another question so I answered again. The next day, a third question, of which I don't remember. I started feeling bad cause it seemed he had no one to run through missions/raid with so I invited him to my fire team and ran some missions for bounties and weekly heroic. Once he was high enough to raid I took him through VoG. Since then he has become an integral part of my nightfall/missions/raid/crucible/anything group. Actually not a day has gone since that we all don't play together. Now we just can't get rid of this kid! Moral of the story: don't discount anyone just cause they're low level or new to the game. If you have nothing to do, might as well help a brotha out. Might end up meeting someone that ends up becoming a permanent part of your squad.
just kidding about the getting rid of him part
• I once got an invite to do nightfall from a newbie. We got all the way to the end, and when the boss was at like 1% health, I kicked it so it didn't get any loot. I didn't either, cause I already completed it. Moral of the story is this: I don't have any morals.

I had something similar to this but not really. I was sitting on one of the tall pole like structures on the tower in front of the bounty board, just wasting time when I see a message come up. Thinking it was just another raid invite I opened it to hear or read what they had to say to 'all recent players'. To my surprise I see just a simple message saying "do you want to play :o?" I exit the message quickly and move my character around to see a lvl 27 titan waving at me on top of the post office building. I go to inspect his character and I see he's must be a fresh start or something because all he has is rare gear. Sadly I clicked out of his character and sent him a message saying I couldn't because my gold ran out. I would've if I could but I had to get friends on their Xbox ones to do the strikes for me till I got my gold or Xbox one myself. The guardian was kind enough to understand and said it was okay and I was left alone on top of my solitude spot once again. Hope that guardian found someone to help him through what he wanted to do. Moral of the story: Don't run out of gold and sadly turn down bright eyes.

The moral of the story is to be a decent human being?...isn't that..called common decency? Something everybody should have? Hence the name "common"? Making a post about this is stupid. It would be like a celebrity saying hello to a fan then posting on Twitter "I'm the nicest man alive because I actually acknowledged my fans. #better" It's irrelevant. I realize a lot of you are getting butthurt about this and I would just like to point out that I couldn't care less.

            • coming from a lvl 32 it is more rewarding to help new guys through raids and NFs then getting drops myself. If you look at my posts in raid finders I target people that have never beaten it before. presents a whole new challenge then just speed running a crotas end. Way to make the world go round bruh

            • My friend, the light shines through you. Earlier this week, I was just chilling in the tower. Done with Dead Orbit's bullshit, I dawned my Revenant shader in glory. Just as I did, I received an invite. Reluctant at first, I accepted it. It was a level 25 warlock, dressed in full blue garb. I said hello into my mic and I don't think I've ever heard a more hopeless voice. He asked if I would help him with the weekly heroic so he could get strange coins to buy the icebreaker. I said sure, why not? After dropping a little knowledge on him about the currency, we proceeded into the level 28 weekly. He didn't take hits really well, but he sure as hell revived me a couple of times. Mid way through I asked if he got the game for Xmas, he said yes. He told me how people would never talk to him and how all of his friends got Xbox ones. I told him that we're not all bad, just busy. I basically changed his opinion on a lot of people that had brushed him off. Anywho, we get to Sepiks, and we defeat him. I hear an emphatic YESSSS as he begins to tell me about his legendary helm and heavy engram. I smile. We return to the tower and he's anxious as all get out. To his surprise, Rahool grants him a legendary warlock helm and a legendary machine gun. He is reeling. Afterwards, he sprints all the way to Xûr. He needed 17 coins. I asked him how many he had (he didn't even know who Xûr really was not the values of his wares). He said 17. I told him good luck, guardian, and I left his fireteam. So, this cold one's for you, Suittsville. May your aim be forever true.

              • Thats really cool bro Much props to you man thats what this game is all about helping each other . And who knows maybe when he gets geared up he will become a valuable raid asset I said it before i seen 32s fail miserably at soloing very hard nightfalls and have seen 30s do it with little problems Hardcore doesn't always mean skill and casual doesnt mean noob It gives me hope that there are still people like you around that actually care about others and give unselfishly

I had a checkpoint for the Gorgon maze which I decided to share with a few friends, one of him being a level 29 who had barely any legendary's and probably only a few crap exotic. So I brought him in and up to the chest and within moments he was screaming with joy because not only did I get him an exotic weapon but it was the Hawkmoon! My job here is done ;)
