The massive outcry of those who owned the Icebreaker prior to Xur carrying it is just a fascinating lesson in human psychology. The argument seems to be: "Now the Christmas newbs can buy it, and that's not fair because they didn't EARN it. Now my Icebreaker is worthless because everyone else has it!"
This blows my mind for 2 reasons.
1. The Icebreaker bought from Xur is infinitely more "earned" than a drop from RNGesus, because you have to actually grind to obtain strange coins, thus truly earning the right to purchase and own the weapon.
2. I got my Icebreaker in a totally random drop, and I'm not upset that my friends can now pick one up with strange coins they saved up and earned. It only makes the game better for us all. Now we can more effectively run raids and nightfall and weeklies. The fact that anyone would be outraged over the Xur Icebreaker is a reflection of pure human greed and the obsessive need to be a special snowflake.
It's great that Xur is carrying items that are more worth buying lately. It's a heck of a lot better than seeing Sunbreakers for the 80th time, or a terrible exotic like the No Land Beyond, isn't it? RNGesus, guys!
Bump/like if you agree.

What's really hilarious is that... A. This isn't even the first time he's sold it and... B. You know half the people jumping on the bandwagon bought it from him the first time. They would never admit it though.

Hey going afk to wank through strikes and get exotics is earning noob!
i kill afkers lols

yes im joking
6 RepliesEdited by NateDergg: 1/17/2015 2:01:42 AMBad shots will still miss. People with true aim will still wreck, just with a shiny new weapon. My last vault I outgunned everyone by 100+ (I think.. Something to that effect) with a base Stat Bad Juju and murmur, respectively against players with much more fortunate drops/buys/whatever. It's all a question of how well you play. Yes the gun performs well, it's built to. The player makes the gun noticed. I for one am head over heels for my new, shiny Icebreaker. I can't wait to wreck.

No land beyond is awesome I love it
-
Yeah.."grind" through the heroic. You're sick

2 RepliesXur shouldn't have sold it. Ultra rare weapons are what makes the game fun. I have had the icebreaker since week 3 and I was lucky to find it. But, I can say 100% if I didn't have it, I wouldn't want xur to sell it. My friend who has been playing with me since day 1 got it from nightfall 2 weeks ago and you would swear he had hit the lottery from his reaction. He may as we'll sell Ghallerhorn next week and get it over with.
-
I've had mine since October, I couldn't care less that he's selling it.

Nothing in this game is earned. Only time played is earned, anything else is an inevitability brought forth by an infinite series of random individual possibilities with a set amount of possible outcomes per each individual possibility. I've just accepted this and since then I have never even bothered caring about anyone else's difficulties within this grand game.
-
Agreed 100%. I bought my first one when he sold it before and have been fortunate to have two more drop since am I bothered by him selling it again? No good luck to all who bought it and to all you elitist knobs I'm not a casual gamer check my playing hours you all need to get off your high horse and grow up
-
Yeah! Good points, good sir.

1 ReplyI fully agree. Although I already had 3 ice breakers before Xur this week, Im actually happy that every one else can get it. It trully does allow for much easier raids and nightfall/heroic strikes
-
I got my Icebreaker from the Nightfall, and I'm not complaining that Xur is selling it. To all those who claim people who didn't "earn" it correctly think on this: I found $20 on the side of the road, I earned it! Doesn't sound right, does it?

6 RepliesI got 1 IB from exotic chest in hard vog, 1 from atheon and 2.0 version from crota. Thats earning not casually playing for a week to get enough strange coins to buy a gun. Im against xur selling exotics in the first place but since everybody loves xur all of a sudden it should cost way more strange coins like 40 minimum. I don't care that people got the weapon just how easily and for how cheap they got one of the best PvE guns. Certain weapons just shouldnt be sold by vendors.
-
I started playing the game right after he sold ib and gjallarhorn, run nightfalls, weeklies, and raids every week, and have never had it drop. Please explain to me the argument of me not "earning" it like everyone who bought it the first time.
-
Im not sure what all the noobs are crying about. I bought my 1st icebreaker from xur the first time he sold it during the 1st ironbanner ever(wierd coincidence or bungie plot?). And noone cried then. Rar i bought my ice breaker before you! Ive also had it drop randomly 4 times since, rng 4tl.

Exotic doesn't mean "special" and that is the root of this problem: it's the "I'm special and you're not" phenomenon. The players who get these weapons by chance want it to mean something, (they be part of an elite club) and Bungie has engineered the game so it doesn't mean that. WEAPON DROPS ARE LUCK. Now if they want to feel special because they're really lucky then I guess that's ok, but don't be a brat about it. Since this seems to be an ongoing issue, then maybe part of the next update should include a section that gives ultra rare weapons and armor to ONLY the best players. Now THAT would be cool...

1 ReplyIts not exotic anymore. No one feels "special"

There are more threads of ppl bitching about people bitching about xur than people bitching about xur... You either die a hero...

11 RepliesEverything about this. I got my first Ice Breaker (lvl 32) last week as a random drop in VoG hard. Today I bought two more for my other two characters. I'm neither butthurt nor angry that now finally everyone has a legitimate shot at it instead of suffering that fool RNGezus. +1 to grinding strange coins and being able to purchase this directly from Xur as 'earned'. Anybody who got it through straight RNG is out of the blam-!ing mind trying to say that a 'random' drop is somehow earned...

1 ReplyYawn. There are no legends in Destiny. There is no good design in Destiny. This is just another disappointment no matter which side of the entitlement fence you defend.

Thank you sir.

You sir, I tip my hat to.
