The massive outcry of those who owned the Icebreaker prior to Xur carrying it is just a fascinating lesson in human psychology. The argument seems to be: "Now the Christmas newbs can buy it, and that's not fair because they didn't EARN it. Now my Icebreaker is worthless because everyone else has it!"
This blows my mind for 2 reasons.
1. The Icebreaker bought from Xur is infinitely more "earned" than a drop from RNGesus, because you have to actually grind to obtain strange coins, thus truly earning the right to purchase and own the weapon.
2. I got my Icebreaker in a totally random drop, and I'm not upset that my friends can now pick one up with strange coins they saved up and earned. It only makes the game better for us all. Now we can more effectively run raids and nightfall and weeklies. The fact that anyone would be outraged over the Xur Icebreaker is a reflection of pure human greed and the obsessive need to be a special snowflake.
It's great that Xur is carrying items that are more worth buying lately. It's a heck of a lot better than seeing Sunbreakers for the 80th time, or a terrible exotic like the No Land Beyond, isn't it? RNGesus, guys!
Bump/like if you agree.

2 RepliesBUMPBUMPBUMP The only time you are allowed to be even remotely annoyed is if you play PVP all the time and a specific gun (such as TLW) pops up and everyone uses it. Even then, get over it. People will either get bored with it or decide they aren't fans. God forbid other people enjoy the game in the same way you do.
-
Because it is really a grind to speed run a strike in 5 minutes...
-
Hey, I ain't upset. I own it, too. Good for those who buy it
-
Bump It's either all earned or none of it is. By earned I'd say you paid for the game, the internet, and spent some measurable amount of time pushing buttons.
-
Absolutely. Wow, people really don't know how to share.
-
Agreed. Earning in destiny: joins strike as nexus goes pop - gets hawk moon. dances in crucible for negative kd - gets ghorn I don't get the bruhaha. How could a person wish that a random who joins the raid group be ill equipped for the job? I see good guns, I'm happy.

7 RepliesI'm not really mad about the Icebreaker thing but I have to disagree about the strange coins. Given how ridiculously easy they are to obtain and most people have more than one character, Xür basically gives things away for free. I don't see where 'earning' comes into play whether it be Xür OR RNG.

Edited by LeaveTheKidsAlone: 1/17/2015 10:17:49 PMYeah that guy that dropped in two shots before Valus went down, and walked out with gjallerhorn totally earned it man. Totally. But I told my little sister everyone would bully her for grinding and saving up her coins for something awesome on Xurday because that's just cheating.
-
Agreed I think they should just give all players icebreaker and gallahorns for free just for putting up with all there B.S

4 Replies*Appluads* *Titan Salute* People bitched and complained about not getting icebreaker/gally from Xur....Xur shows up with icebreaker...and now they bitch about THAT. you know what...guilty as charged... I bought the damn gun.... *Points at upload videos* and now I'm having more fun with destiny than I ever have in the history of my time playing the game. Its that kind of thing that keeps me around when it comes to the grind. I'm quite content at this point.... now if I could just level up icebreaker a little faster. XD
-
Agreed, I ended up using mine for the Hunter helmet though. Leveling a fresh one up so decided to grab the helm instead

I agree, I bought it when he first sold it and have been praying for it to drop for my buddy so I'm pleased that all the people who have not been lucky enough to get it so far can finally get their hands on it :)
-
Bump I would agree to them moaning if this was a strict pvp game....but its not. It's doing missions together working together not against. Let them moan. When I got P&T from a nightfall then it dropped im xur's backpack I didn't moan. Yeah I was a tiny bit annoyed but hell I don't give a rats ass you know.
-
I bought two of them, thank the gaming gods he finally sold it again. Of course, if someone got it to drop for them, then they were doing some kind of in-game content, which is equally "earned" in my book.
-
Don't care if Xur sell it or not, but I hate when ppl say "you just got lucky with RNG, you didn't earn the IB". BS; It's just ppl opinion really, if you think you earn it than of course you did. If you think you are lucky to get IB drop than you are just lucky. Earn or not earn it is up to you to decide.
-
-
I'm with you, I got lucky and icebreaker was my first exotic drop. I'm glad that everyone has IB now, I was getting tired of being on R3 and boomer duty all the time..
-
I don't understand why you sit here and complain xür sells exotic weapons icebreaker is an exotic on his loot table everyone has an equal chance at it!!! You don't earn from rng and that's what xür is for you earn the strange coins and save them to buy the items he sells I believe it is totally fair and just for the record i got icebreaker off the second nightfall I didn't earn it it was luck
-
Its like saying if you found $20 on the ground you earned it but if you bought it with money you worked for then you did not earn it??? It makes so much sense.
-
1 ReplyAll I have to say is screw ice breaker bad juju all the way
-
Thank you for this post. Strange coins are only easy to come by by people who are already at top level ergo people who are not top level have to acually grind for coins and that much more work put in then a RNG. People getting mad over that is ridiculous.

2 RepliesHappy he sold it again. Now everyone can stop crying that he will never sell it again.
