How I picture the class item development meeting went.

Lead Dev: Let's start with hunters. We'll give them a long, flowing cloak, with its own dynamic physics. It will have multiple art profiles: in town, the hood will be down, reveal the hunter's character, and out in the game world, it will cover the hunter's helmet and look totally boss. We can make them all different lengths, colors, styles and patterns! A hunter's choice of cloak will come to define their class, and really fulfill the player fantasy. And we'll develop a whole bunch of sub-lore surrounding them and really build on their hype! Other Devs: Awesome! That sounds so cool! We'll get on this at once! Random Dev: What about Titans? Lead Dev: Oh, um, we could like, give them a loin cloth. Other Devs: What? Lead Dev: You know, a loin cloth. We'll recycle the cloak physics we used for hunter and just do the same thing on a much smaller scale. Other Devs: But... a loin cloth? Really? That doesn't sound as cool... Lead Dev: It's fine. We'll relate it to the Titan's "barbarian" player fantasy and develop all that same sub-lore like we did for hunter's cloaks. Other Devs: Ok, I guess we can sell that... Random Dev: What about Warlocks? Lead Dev: *an awkward silence* Lead Dev: Who? Random Dev: Warlocks? Our 3rd class? Lead Dev: I thought we were just going with two classes? Other Devs: No, no, we're going with three. Lead Dev: Oh... well... they can have arm bands. Other Devs: *silence* Random Dev: Like, cool fore-arm mounted computers, or like, dual upper arm bicep sleeves with cool paterns? Lead Dev: No. Like, a single bicep band. Other Devs: *silence* Lead Dev: Like those arm bands soccer captains wear. Soccer is cool. Random Dev: Like, on each arm though right? And maybe with automated moving parts and lights? Lead Dev: No, like just one arm. Very small, like 2 inches wide max. Other Devs: O...k... Lead Dev: Like, I mean, I guess we could maybe put lights on the super rare and expensive ones. But never more than a single color. And no moving parts. That costs way to much development resources. Just throw some particles on the legendary ones. But keep it simple. Don't let them stand out. You should have to inspect the warlock to even know they are wearing a class item. Other Devs: That kinda sounds lame compared too- Lead Dev: I don't care. Hunter master race. Random Dev: Maybe at least put the bands on both arms? All we would need to do is copy and pas- Lead Dev: This meeting is over. *slams notebook and walks out*

    • FINALLY someone who agree that they totally did a shitty job on the warlock class item. during the beta I posted something saying they should have made the warlock have a trench coat. Because in one of their first videos they said you could easily tell each class by what they are wearing that titans would have a sash (loin cloth), hunters would have a clock, and warlock would be identified by there trench coats. Instead we got those STUPID arm bands, that you are exactly right, no one can even tell we are wearing them unless you inspect a warlock. I literally think they didn't give warlocks a second thought and just was like "meh arm bands will do".

    • Congrats on the best post I've ever read, OP. These lines killed me: "what about warlocks?....who?" And "Don't care, Hunter Master race"

    • I didn't realise armbands were so hated? I love my bonds. I thought Titan mark was a rubbish idea, like when I'm cooking I hang a tea towel on my waist.

      • Honestly Titan is the worst... Hunter is glorious, Warlock is small but has light and flame effects, Titan is a quarterbacks towel for wiping their hands.

      • Has a hunter. Thinks capes are stupid. Has a titan. Thinks Towel is unimaginative. Has a warlock. Thinks the arm bands kick ass. None of your class items are on fire, none of them glow, and none of them sparkle. My freaking warlock is fabulous.

        • Shame the warlock bonds don't really stand out much, it'd be cool if they covered a larger portion of the arm. Maybe have moving parts, something to make it just as noticeable as hunter cloaks and titan but capes. ☺

            • Random Dev: Okay, so we have class items for Dead Orbit, New Monarchy and Future War Cult. When equipped the player can get rep. Makes total sense. How about the other factions...? Lead Dev: What other factions? Random Dev: There are other factions... right? There aren't just three. Crucible and Vanguards sell class-type items, so does the Speaker. Queen's Wrath had them, the Iron Banner and Eris. What's that, that's like six other factions. Players could gain rep from them when equipped, doesn't that make sense? Rank rewards, shaders and all that...? Lead Dev: Nope, doesn't make sense. *sips coffee* I don't even want players earning reward packages for ranks three-plus, with those other ones. Random Dev: Well, why not?!? That's lame, no one is going to bother ranking them up after rank three! I know I wouldn't bother. Lead Dev: The kids won't notice, we have them grinding other things anyway. Where the hell's Deej, he's good at explaining away these things. Maybe he can sneak in a sanitized statement during our update next week. Anyone check the forums lately? Random Dev: Yeah, they're tired of earning Motes for faction rewards. I saw that mentioned a few times. Lead Dev: *raises finger* Aha! I have an idea for the update! We'll gift Motes a little less frequently. Random Dev: Or we could just fix the damn system. Faction rewards should be faction-related gear and shaders. Black shouldn't be so nonexistent, everyone wants that one. It's a very common and reasonable color for tactical shooters. Earning faction gear would make the player want to level up all the factions more frequently and play longer. Lead Dev: No, no, no. We're not doing that, the last thing we want to do is give them something cool to cry about. Besides, I'm still in pre-Alpha mode. You guys are moving too quickly. There are only three real factions because that's what we had for Faction Wars. Random Dev: *facepalms* We don't have friggin FACTION WARS. No one even understands the concept. Why are we spending Crucible Marks at faction vendors? Nothing makes sense. Why isn't the Grimoire actually IN THE GAME? Lead Dev: Is this a congressional hearing or something? You're boring me, brah. Let's just keep things simple. *Kevin Sorbo and Joe Pesci enters the studio* Random Dev: What the -- Lead Dev: Hey guys, have a seat. I hope you're familiar with the scripts by now. Joe: Tanks for aksin' us to be a part of dis uhhh, dis ting you got goin' on. I like dat name, da Wolf House, kinda catchy. I watched some internet videos on wolves, I'm ready. Watch out, Bungie! Giant robot wolf comin' through! Don't you laugh Sorbo, I'll bite yer nuts off. Random Dev: I'm going to Starbucks and no, I'm not taking orders. If I don't come back it's because I quit. Lead Dev: *rubs palms together* This new DLC is gonna be so awesome.

              • HUNTER IS NOT A -blam!-ING RACE, NONE OF THE "CLASSES" ARE RACES!!! When will people learn. My character is not the titan race with Exo class because why not, it's an Exo with titan abilities. Race: Human Awoken Exo Class: Titan Hunter Warlock Please people, learn the -blam!-ing difference.

"We'll recycle the physics from the hunter's cloak" Yeah, because that's totally how it works. It's just dynamic cloth (which is literally as simple as clicking maybe twice) for both cloaks and marks lol, you're trying too hard to sound like you know what you're talking about. And personally, I think a lot of the Warlock's class items look cooler than the Hunter's capes anyways. Some of the cloaks look pretty cool, but Warlock has a much better selection imo.
