Serious Question DeeJ - How has the community affected Destiny?

This is a serious question. There has been a LOT of chatter on the forums with some VERY robust discussion of what 'we the players' would like to see/not see in destiny. What I would like to know is, given that Bungie continually emphasise the importance of the community and the oft stated 'Keep Talking, We're Listening', what has changed in Destiny based on what the community have said? Sure, there have been some buffs and nerfs (but I suggest these are from Bungie's own statistic gathering). VoG and CE have been 'de-cheesed' (and then re-cheesed, de-cheesed, re-cheesed ;)). But what about everything else the community has been literally shouting out for - Queen's wrath, more vault space, better loot algorithms, crucible matchmaking based on relative skill, loot based on achievement, transmogrification, heavy ammo bug fix, fixes for the numerous VoG glitches, weekly/nightfall matchmaking, fixing the problem of vanguard strike / crucible leeches. And a question for the community - how long will you continue to call for these changes before giving up? For several months now you, DeeJ, have been saying 'we're listening' and the community has been raising their voices. So please tell us: - What have you heard? - What are you considering? - Why aren't you talking to us? (weekly updates are not 'talking to us' - they are patch notes) And PLEASE - none of this:
Thanks for the great feedback. You're touching on a lot of heavy issues here. These are the things we talk about at Bungie, and I'm glad to see players thinking about the game in the same way. You obviously care a lot about Destiny, and I appreciate your voice in the conversation. Some of these changes require a change in the way designers think about rewards. Some of them take a lot of time and effort to steer the ship in that direction. Destiny will continue to change and evolve, and chatter like this helps. Keep it coming.
This is not an answer - this is a non-answer a politician gives when they don't like the question that is asked and/or are not prepared to give an honest answer to. And I reiterate - this is a serious question. I'm not being snide or snarky. I honestly believe the community deserves some feedback on the feedback they have provided.

First of all [calm blue ocean], please imagine me saying these things with a friendly smile on my face. I genuinely like people who like to play Destiny. We have something in common. Let's dig in... We work on Destiny every day. I'd enjoy making promises about when your wish lists will turn into patch notes, but coding interactive entertainment is not that predictable. Things we want to happen could hit a roadblock. I'd rather not try to walk back conversations about priorities that were interpreted as promises. I prefer to set expectations when I know we can deliver. Many of you have all but demanded that we never talk about things that won't end up in the game. If you want to know how you've influenced development, look no further than the dozen or more updates that we've applied to the game. Some of those updates were things we wanted to happen. Some of them are things that you had demanded. There is a symbiosis at work here. Here's some real talk: I truly do appreciate the community that plays this game. I know some of you want to be angry with me, but I can't make that a two-way street. I do appreciate the conversation that happens on this forum. Please don't ask me to stop thanking you for that. Please don't call me a politician for valuing your input, and for saying so. Your chatter helps me do my job, and invigorates our development process with additional voices. I know you want a window into our world, but imagine trying to do your job with millions of people looking over your shoulder. I need to maintain a safe environment where our people can take chances and innovate. If you keep telling us what you want, I will keep representing your opinions. I just came from a meeting where I did just that. I understand your impatience. I'm the least patient person I know. What I can tell you is that Destiny will continue to evolve, and you're a part of that process. In the meantime, stay tuned. And keep shooting stuff.

    • I'd be happy if Deej stopped speaking in ryhmes and riddles leaving us to guess amongst ourselves as to what the hell he's referring to half the time. Its so simple. "Hey guys, this upcoming month we are working on these issues, (lists issues), after reading through the forums we have decided that these need the most attention." Instead we get. " hello guardians, back at bungie HQ were circle jerking each other off as fast as possible while having out intern Greg fix all the raid glitches (he doesn't know much). Anyways we got some cool stuff planned in the future, I could tell you but......that's a story for another time"

        • Put your hater shades on Deej, thanks for what you do man. Destiny rocks, I'm continually amazed at how much MORE you guys listen to us than any other game I've ever played. Keep up the good work and I'll keep on shooting stuff.

        • Deej response Hey, Thanks for the feedback. I can tell you right now that our team specifically trained to improve our ever-changing and adapting game, has already heard you. And I can tell you I've passed along many ideas to our creative board, ideas from you guys. Keep throwing your important feedback out there, as we all hear you. Keep trudging through the darkness guardians. Translation: Listen, shut up. I'm too busy writing this weekly update that no one cares about. No one reads your posts, but that's because we don't care what our playerbase says. There's no such thing as a creativity board. I hope you wipe on the nightfall.

I know you want a window into our world, but imagine trying to do your job with millions of people looking over your shoulder. I need to maintain a safe environment where our people can take chances and innovate.
Hey Deej, (and everyone) I would just like to make the point that it is Bungie who decided to create a game that is meant to keep us busy for 10 years. Most of the other studios doing this very thing have a different approach to how they deal with their community. Take Riot games for example. They are pushing out content much more often, and while I know they only have to worry about one platform. They understand the need to keep the community engaged with the development process. We even have access to a public beta environment which they use to test out ideas that (many times) don't ever make it into the game. If you have the idea of 'maintaining a safe environment' by not talking to the community at all about what truly bothers them, and not letting us 'peak in the window' for fear that your team cannot innovate, then you have chosen the wrong type of game to develop. Companies like Riot are more than transparent, innovating all the time (just look at their champ lineup from last year) and guess what?...... I played their free game for over a year.... happily... constantly spending money.... and being happy about it. I occasionally stop back in and play a bit more after they made a bunch of changes. Now I sit and compare my feelings about this game. I pre-purchased the dlc.... and after a long fight in the VOG hard mode the weekend before.... (where I finally got my vog helm) ... the dark below dropped. After seeing the way this game treats my time (and apparently will continue to treat it with every dlc drop) by making my 'hard earned gear' useless, making me re-level everything etc..... I was extremely disappointed with this game that I was planning to spend a few years (and a bunch of cash) on. In fact... I have never felt so disappointed in a game my entire life. I used to see potential in this game. I was even willing to forgive the lack of story, repetitive game-play, and overall laziness in design. But I will not spend another dollar on this franchise, if this trend continues. ....please take a few lessons from studios like Riot. This is the age of open betas, early access, and digital services that we call games. You can't expect to keep a community engaged for ten years like this. And every Destiny media personality I follow... from Datto to IGN resonates this same message.

            • I think most, if not all, serious feedback has been put in the back burner. Its sad really, especially when you see how much potential this game had. These people at bungie need to stop being so greedy and release all of the 'DLC' for free. Just because you have no idea where to go with the story does not give you the incentive to break it down into parts, sell it back to us for way more than the content is worth, and give us absolutely nothing new. I gave up on the game when I realized they really dont give a flyingphuk about us in the community. Theres no content, no ranking, no matchmaking where its needed, theres no dialogue, nothing immersive, and there is NO story. This game is done, and I'm glad the fanbase is slowly dissipating.

              • This is one of the most honest post I've read on here. As a fellow player of destiny I can agree with this fellow player. Vague responses to the community's questions makes you seem like a crooked politician. It feels more like an automated response system than an actual forum. Another reason people are restless? They're paying to play this game. Buying the game and expansions to continue playing. Surely with the millions you've made, patches and fixes that people want can be done in a more timely fashion? I love the game, I enjoy the community. But it feels like all that's being ask of Bungie falls on deaf ears. I don't know Bungie. Maybe you lost your thunder when you left your main franchise behind.

I'm glad he responded and it shows real character in what he said. however, it makes me feel let down that he isn't going to or won't respond to real topics because we drove an entire company not to speak to us unless something was concrete. there are huge topics like vanity slots and loot drops numbers and ratios things we scream about everyday that need to be done "behind closed doors" now. did bungie say or so alot of things in trailers and interviews that never happened and we dug up to rub in their faces? suuure did, that being said Deej mentioned road blocks in development and I feel ashamed that we the players have made one of ourselves with our lack of civility and proper communication. Damnit...

                • definitely the most pure post I've read. it deserves an answer. it BEGS an answer. how much of a democracy is this game? it seems more of a dictatorship where heavy ammo costs more, loot caves are expunged, cheeses are fixed, exotics don't drop as frequently as they once did. instead of fixing vault space, VoG glitches and the other thousands of ideas this community has proposed to truly make the game better. it appears their every effort is to maximize our grind, dismissing our "problems" because our problems make us spend LESS TIME PLAYING.

                    • Honestly, I gave up. Bugs like losing heavy ammo at respawn are in the game since day1. As a software engineer I can imagine how super hard it is to fix a bug that is pinned down to a specific cause (ammo perk). Bungie had months to fix it and all of us sacrificed dozens or even hundreds of ammo packs to this bug - no fix. Deej wrote bungie is listening.. maybe they should start reading! Even if they listen/read, it is pointless if they dont act accordingly! I am not talking about changing everything that comes up in the forums, there is a lot of bullshit like crybabies demanding nerfs and so on. But I would expect bungie to mention the biggest topics in the weekly update. Like the huge amount of negatice feedback on the dlc itself. Not only customers but magazines as well call the dlc an insult on the players.. not a single word from bungie.. I doubt the guys at bungie really sit in their whirlpools, counting our money, but the lack of any communication seems to prove me wrong - they ARE counting our money and have a good time with it.. The last updates consisted mostly of christmas wishes and comments about the devs having family, drinking some wine and enjoying the holidays. I grant them that, sure, nobody expects them to work 24 hours on christmas eve. But I dont care to read that. I dont care to read fluffy statistics with some words of humor 'at least 5 did it legit *giggle*. What I do care about are results, bug fixes of day1 bugs, reliable comments about what's next, comments about things the community bothers about, current problems and what to about it.. In short terms: I expect nothing as bungie proved that they give a shit about the community, no matter what deej says.. otherwise lots of the bad, the real bad design decisions were never made...
