Well honestly the true answer to doing good in Crucible is its about a player's preference and play style but I'll give you a few solid facts that may help you and other people;
1. Impact- Now this applies more to standard crucible rather than iron banner and here is why, first off in standard Crucible as you all know the guns and players are relatively equalized. That being said, any weapon with a higher impact will do way more damage per bullet AND in most cases, kill the enemy if the player can maintin the shot. An argument against this is a gun with a higher rate of fire will shoot more bullets and match it BUT its simply not true because with the health you're given in crucible, any weapon with a good impact will take you down way before you spray those bullets. (Although some people are bad with higher impact guns and go for higer fire rate because it helps them, that's understandable)
2. Stability- if you're a seasoned PvP player than this probably won't apply to you as much as others but it doesn't matter what gun you are using if you aren't accurate with it and can't take the recoil then it doesn't matter how amazing your weapon is. I myself can knock off a head shot with a gun that has crazy recolil, but many can not. That being said if you have to fall back and use a weapon with lower impact but you are more accurate you have a higher chance of getting the kill over something that has a high impact that kills fast but you can't shoot. Common sense.
3. Weapon combos- I'm sure you have all noticed by now that the majority of the maps in this game are relatively close or medium range combat. That being said you can't just rely on a primary weapon to do it all for you. Most people run an auto rifle with a shotgun. (Ex; Suros with Found Verdict can cover almost all ranges needed for a quick kill) a large majority of the people in this game only rely on one weapon in crucible when in reality when you have 3 weapons at your disposal it you should use them all at their effective ranges. Don't run into a crowded room of enemies with an auto rifle, pull out a shotgun and you could drop two or three of them without even batting an eyelash.
4. Player play style/Preference- now just because something works for somebody else doesn't mean it'll work for you. Also remember that perks on the guns make a huge difference (Ex; put send it on the Vex and drop that extra clip ammo and watch the kills roll in) so in saying that, just try to experiment!
EDIT: Additional tips from USNG R00KiE GUY. He had amazing input and you should read his part that I added in as well.
USNG R00KIE GUY:
Some of the things I do that lets me dominate in crucible:
• Keep moving. A moving target is harder to hit than a stationary one. Move back and forth as you shoot, jump around and shoot, jump over their heads and melee or shoot them with a shotgun at the same time. The more you move, the less bullets hit you. Never stay still with a sniper, because someone might snipe you first. And make your movements erratic to throw them off. Walk your crosshairs on to their heads if you can, don't look there.
• Run away. If you get hit first by a person and you are not prepared for them (ex: looking the other direction or they jump you), get out of there. Go more for cliffs and edges when running away so that way you immediately drop out of their sights. If they have clear sights on you, do not jump unless you are using blink even if it is to get to a higher platform because you're just giving them more time to shoot you. Also, use as many sharp turns as you can and avoid getting hit to recharge your shields. If they follow you for a long time (about half the map), then run them into your teammates to help take them out or make an improvised ambush. Some good ambushes in these situations is:
- Run around the corner and crouch to make it seem like your getting away and then blast them with a shotgun when they do
- Run around a corner and jump in the air right before they do to confuse them and disorient them
- Jump and turn around at the same time in the middle of a smaller open area and throw a grenade and then fight so you start to do damage first because they are still running. Only do this of your health fully is charged.
Don't give them points!
• Stare, not glance, at your radar. It is the easiest way to guess where the enemies are and about how many there are. Those that are crouching blink on the radar about every 5 sec and are probably preparing an ambush. If that is the case, do a small circle around the area to get a good guess at where they're at and ambush them. This can be done by going to the doorway that is closest to their position and mainly using a shotgun:
- jumping right before the doorway so you are high in the air and out of their line of sight and surprise attack them (most effective)
- running around the doorway and sliding right next to them and shooting them with a shotgun
- throw AoE grenades (Area of Effect. Ex: suppressor, tripmine, or vortex grenades) or grenades that track a target to get them to panic and run away and run in immediately to surprise them (second best)
If it looks like there is more than one in a room and not an easy way to separate them, then try to lure one into an ambush by poking in and out to get them to follow you or wait for a teammate. And make sure to glance at your radar if you are in a firefight but behind cover to make sure you don't get jumped. And if you are about to get jumped, do what I said before and run away.
• Your teammates are tools, not people, so use them. If there are two guys in a room with you and a teammate, shoot the one your teammate is not, even if you have to stop firing at one to get the other one. This prevents their ability to fight back and weakens them both at the same time. If you are defending something and your teammate is taking pop shots at some guys in one area, look somewhere else, you never know where they could be coming from. But make sure your teammates stay alive. If a teammate is about to die, try to draw attention while staying alive because 2 on 2 is better than 1 on 2. Keep within range of your teammates. Be close enough to help them if they need it, but not so close that one grenade or super could damage/kill you all.
• Don't fall for ambushes. Remember that some people use the same methods that are here. If someone runs around a corner when you are following them and you don't know exactly where they are, do not follow. If you can at least damage them a little while they are running to prevent them from regaining health, do so to keep them weak for yourself or a teammate. Don't blindly run into an area with guys, trick them into making a mistake.
• Know a sacrifice when you see one. If you and a bunch of teammates are pinned outside an area and a guy runs in there, he is trying to draw attention so you can get in there and surprise them. So run in a second later. Or you could even be that guy. A sacrifice can change the battle.
• Hold your points. If you hold an area, you force them to come to you so you can set up traps and ambushes. Never pursue them because they might be trying to trick you or other guys could push in when you left and take control of the area. If there is a guy that runs in and more than one teammate is shooting him, don't fire, even if he is shooting you. Just move a little and continue to watch your entrances. You don't want the last point's strategy to work on you.
I hope this helps for those of you that are new to fps games or bad at multiplayer

5 RepliesStay out of there because no matter how good or bad you are, the laggy ones always prevail!

2 RepliesBest shotgun trick everyone knows and uses First u shotgun and then right after melee. It a fast and great trick if ur shotgun doesn't take down all the health u hope it would but if ur in a close enough range to melee ur shotgun should do about half health or more and your melee could easily finish off the kill. To all the new players...happy killing! :)

3 RepliesBest setup for crucible hands down is: Khvostov Found Verdict Truth If you want you can swap for a vex but the khvostov outperforms it on almost every map.

3 RepliesCool of you to post this for the new guys, and for the Destiny Vets who just kinda suck in the Crucible. Like me!

1 ReplyIt also depends heavily on your agility too. If your able to traverse the PvP map relatively quickly as well as moving swiftly in a defensive manner, your bound to stay alive and move to crucial areas in the right pace. Also, whenever heavy ammo is available, you've got to hoover all that heavy ammo up from the cache and enemy players too. That way, you can blow up enemies with rockets or riddle them with your machine gun as much as to like. Liked the information here buddy. Even though I'm a seasoned PvP player, this walk of text has kinda made me think if how I play crucible overall now! :D
