I Can't Do This Anymore, I'm done.
When the PSN servers went down around Christmas time I was forced to take a break from Destiny. For me that break ended today. I know the PSN servers have been back for a while now, but I could not bring myself to come back to the game. I found myself feeling relieved when the servers were down. I had an excuse to not be playing. For the first time since release, I could stop playing and not worry about falling behind. I started PC gaming again while I was away, and I have had a great time.
My phone buzzed with a message today asking me to play and I obliged. We didn't play for very long before the person I was playing with signed off. Since tonight is the last night Xur is around, I checked out what I could upgrade, and it turned out I desperately needed to upgrade my Gjallarhorn. If I was going to be continuing my break, I at least needed that upgraded right? Then I saw that Xur had Kuncklehead radar. I needed that upgraded for my main's subclass, despite the fact that I've already put hours into upgrading it in vanilla Destiny.
Then it hit me. What the -blam!- am I doing? Why am I playing this game? I come back after a week-and-a-half hiatus, and do you know what my night consisted of? Glimmer farming... -blam!-ing glimmer farming for three hours straight, because I didn't want to miss out on Xur's upgrades. Something dawned on me as I was sitting in my usual Glimmer farming spot; this is not fun, I am not having fun right now. In fact, this is agonizing. All I want to do is stop playing. This is how I realized after playing Destiny since release day, that I hate Destiny. I hate Destiny for the time it has taken away from me. In the short while I was not playing, I was actually enjoying myself gaming on my PC. I was actually enjoying myself not farming all night while my girlfriend waits for me to finish. I was having a good time not feeling like every action I made was carefully controlled by Bungie.
I haven't even been playing Destiny for more than a few months, and I already feel like it has been a huge drain on my life. And worst of all, I was never actually having a good time. It isn't even like Destiny is even a good game! If you are going to sink hours of your life into a video game, for God's sake make sure it's actually a good one at least! Quit while you can guys. This game utterly sucks. You are all just mindless drones programmed into doing the same thing over and over. Get out while you can.
And no Deej, we cannot be friends. You are promoting a game you know is garbage. I don't feel sorry for you. You and Bungie deserve all the hate you get.

I understand this completely. First "rant" ive read here that actually makes sense, probably because its the first honest and nonsubjective opinion from someone who clearly enjoys paying video games for the sake of having fun. I hate it too, for all of the reasons mentioned and even then some. From the marketing tactics, the lack of content, the unbalanced architecture of pvp, all the way to the network issues and even more so the refusal of acknowledgement from Bungie makes me sick sometimes. I, along with alot of other people here, am addicted to gaming, sometimes to the point thta I dont even have fun when Im doing it. For a reference to what I mean, and what I think the author means, is that for instance take the game Borderlands. This is a perfect example of how an addicting game can be fun. Everything abut that game was unbelievably fun to play, and for so many reasons. The only reason I play this game is to constantly keep up with the gear to prepare for the next raid, thats still months away. Im not ure Im going to make it to that either, given how much I hate this game too.

I need help quitting destiny too it's consuming my life too much grinding for Gjallahorn and ice breaker and raids and weeklys and nightfalls. I hardly get in my daily workouts anymore I can't quit this game I need help :(

Good on you. There is simply no reason to keep playing Destiny. Find a good pc game and play until bored. Then find another one. There are plenty of good games you can get cheap or relatively cheap on Steam. After some time come back to Destiny, see if it pulls you back in and if it doesn't rejoice a good decision you made time before. Ignore haters, there are plenty of those. You can't force people to be smart about their time. Post about your experience, some will understand and take notes. Life's too short to waste playing something you no longer enjoy. Don't discount your time spent on any game however. It's part of a learning process; one can't tell the quality of something without trying it out.

Every time I see a post like this I hope that they return their copy or delete it instead of just booting up destiny the next day to continue punishing themselves. There's a ton of games coming out soon that look promising, I hope you find one you enjoy. After all that's the point of games lol.

This is like saying why bother with life? We go through a grind of work to make money to enjoy other things and then ultimately we die... If you don't enjoy any aspect of destiny don't play it and don't make an essay telling us. I don't mind grinding because it gets me the stuff I want to have fun with friends. Same as I don't like working but it gets me the money I want to have fun in life. Everything can be looked at in this same way but we don't make posts saying why bother living? It's a grind and we'll ultimately all gonna die anyway!

Well if you hate the game so much then don't play it. Everyone has an opinion and yours is that you don't like destiny, well here's some advice: Don't play it!! I love destiny and will continue to play it but if you really hate it then why are you still playing, just go back to your PC games or whatever else, i don't care.

Ive had my fun and got interested in the new dlc for a month or so, last few days im back to the feeling of bored again. And im getting disconected daily it seems, which really turns me off. i like playing this game with friends but at this point where im 31 with maxed weapons i like, im not gonna grind like a maniac to get to 32 or whatever. The game needs fresh life in terms of more coop activities. If youre gonna make everything so repetitive have something fun to repeat like horde mode. At this rate, especially with bungies crap servers, i cant think of a reason to stick around. I had almost no network issues for 3 months and now its very spotty. 500 people working on this and theres almost nothing new in content with progressively worse network performance, awesome.

It wasn't until I grinding crucible for a gun that I realized what a massive waste of time this game is. The entire time I wasn't having fun, just counting down the marks. A long, boring, unrewarding quest for a gun that ended up sucking. I don't know why I still play, actually I do. This game is literally an addiction. It has such an amazing background, art, gunplay, but it's ridiculed with balancing issues, repetition, frustration. I just can't stop because when I do enjoy the game it's an amazing moment. At least for now those moments keep me playing but I'm probably done once I play the last DLC in the season pass (that I paid for when I still believed in Bungie). Might as well get my money's worth if I enjoy the core elements. There's no way I'm buying into this crap anymore unless something big happens.
