I Can't Do This Anymore, I'm done.

When the PSN servers went down around Christmas time I was forced to take a break from Destiny. For me that break ended today. I know the PSN servers have been back for a while now, but I could not bring myself to come back to the game. I found myself feeling relieved when the servers were down. I had an excuse to not be playing. For the first time since release, I could stop playing and not worry about falling behind. I started PC gaming again while I was away, and I have had a great time. My phone buzzed with a message today asking me to play and I obliged. We didn't play for very long before the person I was playing with signed off. Since tonight is the last night Xur is around, I checked out what I could upgrade, and it turned out I desperately needed to upgrade my Gjallarhorn. If I was going to be continuing my break, I at least needed that upgraded right? Then I saw that Xur had Kuncklehead radar. I needed that upgraded for my main's subclass, despite the fact that I've already put hours into upgrading it in vanilla Destiny. Then it hit me. What the -blam!- am I doing? Why am I playing this game? I come back after a week-and-a-half hiatus, and do you know what my night consisted of? Glimmer farming... -blam!-ing glimmer farming for three hours straight, because I didn't want to miss out on Xur's upgrades. Something dawned on me as I was sitting in my usual Glimmer farming spot; this is not fun, I am not having fun right now. In fact, this is agonizing. All I want to do is stop playing. This is how I realized after playing Destiny since release day, that I hate Destiny. I hate Destiny for the time it has taken away from me. In the short while I was not playing, I was actually enjoying myself gaming on my PC. I was actually enjoying myself not farming all night while my girlfriend waits for me to finish. I was having a good time not feeling like every action I made was carefully controlled by Bungie. I haven't even been playing Destiny for more than a few months, and I already feel like it has been a huge drain on my life. And worst of all, I was never actually having a good time. It isn't even like Destiny is even a good game! If you are going to sink hours of your life into a video game, for God's sake make sure it's actually a good one at least! Quit while you can guys. This game utterly sucks. You are all just mindless drones programmed into doing the same thing over and over. Get out while you can. And no Deej, we cannot be friends. You are promoting a game you know is garbage. I don't feel sorry for you. You and Bungie deserve all the hate you get.

    • Uh oh. Destiny HQ, we got a situation. Mhmm, another player becoming self-aware, he's noticed the hamster wheel, and realizing it's all grind and no fun. Planning on quitting the system. Yup, escalating to danger level 4. Initiating operation bravo-alpha-india-tango. Correct, he will receive 3 legendary engrams in his next run, 2 of them will become exotics. The new treats should keep him around until next update. Roger roger, mission accomplished and crisis averted. Over and out.

Would you sit in McDonald's eating hamburgers if you really wanted pizza, then take out an add in the paper telling every you hate hamburgers. This is totally a you problem and not a hard problem to solve and it sounds like you solved it

      • Yup, I'm joining you man. I'm jumping ship. I'm tired of Destiny and, like you said - I realized it's not fun to play it. I have 122 ascended energy and only 3 ascended shards, can NEVER get shards to upgrade gear, forced to play in the crucible for exotic bounties and to level crucible up to buy weapons I dont want to sell them and hope to get ascended shards from the salvage, I don't have any friends to form a good team for completing raids with and trying to play with randoms is always a mess, strikes are the same every week, my entire time playing I've NEVER had a legendary engram drop, and on and on and on... It honestly feels like work, it's frustrating; it's not fun for me, I hate and I mean HATE the crucible (To say I'm AWFUL at pvp is an understatement), I've already accepted the fact that I will NEVER complete ANY exotic bounty due to this fact. It's... I'm just so tired of this game. Bye, Destiny.

      • Omg. Finally someone else realized what a waste of time this game is. People just do the same shit over and over? For what? To be level 32?! For what? Nothing requires that BUT ONE RAID NOT EVEN RELEASED. Or maybe for a legendary -blam!-ing ship from ROC? This games pathetic. I too just realized it recently. Thank god. Look at warframe. Updates out the ass. Smaller dev team, smaller budget. After 3 months what do we get? Three exotics weapons?! 3 lmao

I feel the same. I quit destiny for a couple weeks, watched some anime, played AC Unity and Wolfenstein, caught up on some work, and I actually was relieved to be free from destiny's shackles. It's not a horrible game, though it's story is pitiful, but it's just time consuming. Yeah the big achievements (vex Mythoclast, level 32, necrocasm *sorry, can't spell it right*) are worth the effort, but c'mon, I have about 5 upgrades till I hit 32, it requires 80 spirit bloom, 4,900 glimmer, and 125 wire. I had the wire, the spirit bloom I purchased, but it took me hours to get 4'900 glimmer. Bad luck at that, completing crucible bounties is torture. I rarely play crucible, and having to do it for rep makes it a little more worth it. But only 50-100 rep? Max rep for all crucible bounties each day is 450. You need 1200 to rank up. 3 days of completing every bounty. And, c'mon, who actually enjoys that? Farming basic elements like glimmer shouldn't be that annoying and tedious. Rep and glimmer should be more abundant and be received by larger amounts. It's like pennies to a $1,000 debt. On another note, the updates. Yeah, they're positive. Patching cheeses is cool, adjusting weapon stats is fine, and pvp tweaks are ok, but they're NOT priority. There are still major bugs in both raids. VoG had teleporting issues, atheon glitches, and I've even had the sync plates drop dead and not work. In CE, I've had lamps quit activating, bridges not forming, swords not dropping, even the chalice has despawned mid-battle with no return (with picture proof)! The drop system is unfair. I've yet to get a needed chest plate, but constantly receive dogged Gage's every raid. Before the time of the Dark Below, I received 147 ascendant energy and only 25 ascendant shards (guess which one I needed more of). I can still fall under maps in pvp. Many times have I shot someone and they take no damage, leaving me wide open for Attack (no, in these incidents I do not miss). I have spawned without a radar, wasted glimmer on synthesis that fail to work, and lost valuable items during the vault glitch epidemic. But wait! People are exploiting a glitch?! We must stop this at once! Uh hello? People will always do this. Worry about major bugs left in the game and not how players defy how you wish for them to play the game. I guess it's ok that players are left to fight Crota without a chalice, but God forbid if someone dances while riding their sparrow! The damage has been done. The only fun within the game is striving to be the strongest among your friends, which so far has been enough for me to continue playing. But my motivation is running dry, as does many others. I'm not a whining child who expects a gjallahorn as reward for completing the nightfall. I don't beg for a player-to-player trading system. I don't even complain when xur doesn't sell items that I want, but the very basic elements of the game are flawed and need repair immediately. The loot system needs to be redone with some sort of advantage, not a great advantage, to hard working players. Fix the game! Changing courses, I want to briefly discuss Destiny 2. I'd like to see a back story for Destiny. Another story in Destiny 2 to compliment and make sense of this shotty excuse of a storyline in Destiny. Work hard to perfect your game before and after its release. Do not make the same mistakes. And please, for the love of God, let our current characters transfer into Destiny 2!

And now you see the single design premise behind Destiny...playing to the lowest base human collection/addiction behavior instinct. Much easier to make a profit than spending the time to develop an actual story or complete and dynamic environment. The money spent by Bungie was not on content, it was spent on maximizing the addiction capability. All the "better idea" posts in this forum are hilarious - do these addicts actually think a professional development studio filled with educated and motivated people are incapable of delivering a complete game. Destiny, as is, is exactly the game Bungie intended to deliver. The multiple farming, currency, and token restrictions are the ONLY reason to play this game after finishing the 12 hours of actual content. I completed Destiny, including all raid weapons and three level 30 characters. I kept playing just to help friends do the same. I was speed running the night falls solo just to get through them quickly. The ONLY fun aspect was banter with friends while doing the raid. For me, the end was the release of the dark below which nullified all my character "progress". What was the point of getting raid gear? And getting the gear is the reason to run the bug ridden raid more than three or so times. Destiny is designed to be an addictive product. Many can walk away easily, but many more cannot and it is these players that Bungie will continue to capitalize on. Bungie can keep my preorder money for the dlc, but I won't be wasting my time playing them. And I certainly will not pre-order another Bungie release, which in all likelihood means I will not be buying Call of Destiny 2, 3, or post- modern warfare.

I'll stop when I stop enjoying it. Your glimmer farming sojourn that tipped the scales for you is kinda sad. Why not just do the harder things like daily and weekly challenges and Nightfall and bounties while using the opponent-appropriate glimmer-booster? Maybe the income wouldn't be quite as fast, but you would get other loot like ascendant stuff, engrams, and you can do bounties and patrol missions and pub events. That's what I like about the game, you can do two (or more) things at once. It's sad that you decided to concentrate on the single-minded goal instead of embracing the variety offered by the game. If that's what it came down to for you, I'm not surprised you quit.

            • I agree. I feel like I'm slowly getting to a stopping point myself. I was so excited for the first DLC only to be slapped in the face by the tower armor. I'm not excited for the second DLC but I'll play it. I really don't even care about hitting 32 now. I can just buy 33 armor next DLC. I mainly play because I've made some good friends. One thing I can say about Destiny is that it helped me become a more social gamer.

            • I can even relate to that. Although for me the key to staying sane is having one main character. I have another of the same class with sub 20 hours who only does Nightfall and Raid every week, but that's it. You just need a few weapons to go through every situation in the game, you only really need to do the bounties if there is a gun you want to upgrade fast (which will not be often past some point) and even then on just one char. You do the nightfall, weekly, raid, play a few strikes, do some crucible - enjoy this game generally. I would go crazy if I needed to do it all with 3 chars and provide weapons for all of them. Right now I often find myself thinking - this would be worth upgrading, but will I really use it? If the answer is no, I just won't. Instead of - "but my other char could use it". I often am deliberate about not grinding, even if I feel I really want and need whatever the result I will or may get from it. Just keep the game fun, take some time off if needed, create a new char every now and then. Quite fun really.

Not having fun is entirely your fault, because of how you play. You do not need to glimmer farm by farming enemy spawns. It is literally the slowest possible way of earning glimmer in the game. The torture you inflict upon yourself is entirely your fault. Bungie has created ample ways to farm glimmer that are not nearly as repulsive. It's called "Strike Playlist". You can also re-run Campaign if you feel like being a lone wolf. Equip the glimmer buff item that fits your mission and stop -blam!-ing whining about how you're playing the game wrong. Run the latest DLC strike with a Wax Idol and you will easily come out with 3,000 glimmer. With a good team, even a good PUG, you can kill Omnigul in 10 minutes. Ten minutes for 3,000 of blasting space zombies is really not that intimidating. You choose to use spawn spots. You fail to realize that the Patrol/world area spawns are environmental detail, not for farming. Farm vanguard, be to the glimmer cap in a couple of hours. I blow and earn thousands of glimmer each time I play. It really is simple. Addendum: It is important to note that the gaming demographic being aimed at, and the feature which you (by design) should be using most (or, are likely to use most) is PvP. This is a Bungie game, after all. If you're spending all day on Destiny farming, then you're doing something wrong. Farming is quick enough that it should take a small glimpse of time. Then just focus on Crucible. Or do something else.

I've grinded, farmed, upgraded, played, interacted, raided, striked, played multiplayer etc. Ever once and a while I'll try and break free. Try A friend came over the other night and wanted to play battlefield 4. Sure. Why not. It'll be fun. Get into the game. >shit >where the hell is my sparrow >where is my RNG drops >1v1 me bitch >I bet this guy doesn't even raid >2015 >not raiding >try crota without cheesing pussy >do you even mythoclast >pleb can't even self revive >nice kinetic damage skrub >using m4 >clearly inferior to praedyths timepiece >2015 >not playing destiny Wow. I need to try a new game and get my mind clear. Pop in halo: master chief collection. I heard they fixed their servers a bit. Game starts - >shit >the hell >wheres my ORS1 sight >2015 >not ADSing >no leading shots?! >60fps with lag >bungie doesn't know lag >343 >lawl >no rewards for playing? >Dev flaw get it together >I'm hungry >my legs hurt >put back in destiny The whole time I was thinking about destiny. Destiny is addicting. I can't break free. He goes to sleep. I pop in destiny. Shit. What do now? Farm strikes, hell. Get a call from another friend. He said I should get far cry 4. Immediately - >far cry 4 >doesn't even have raid gear >error 404: no 32 >bet this game doesn't even have time breaker sparrow >not playing destiny >far cry 4 >ubisoft what a laugh >not bungie >if bungie and ubisoft 1v1'd >2015 >not supporting bungie >try not being a bigot >do you even $500m ubisoft >rekt Every time I try and open my mind and try a different game, destiny sucks me back in. Idk what to do. Its not enjoyable, its not fun, its not entertaining.
