Hello, I want to talk about this kind of stuff where people treat other people with a disability like crap.(i know this isn't about destiny but this happened in a fireteam with some guy) I want to state (Please don't hate. hey that rhymed lol) i am 15 and have a stutter. Its not a once in a while thing. It happens all the time. Either if i don't have (crazy as it may sound) "momentum or I talk too fast. Even when i talk slow i stutter.(I have stuttering blocks which is where it feels like you have no air left and just --------)So to that kid who tries to impersonate me by p-----lay des-----tiny. Think about going out to eat in a diner or something and struggling to tell them what you want. The most pure form of embarrassment. And stuttering does nit mean you are stupid -_- tell that to my honors classes. And the final thing is people hurting people with disabilities. Real disabilities not stuttering. Such as the 15 year old beat up a 22 year old man with cerbal pawsy. You people make me sick. Is this what the world has come too? Our generation isn't looking too good so far....... If you made it this far thank you. I hope you have learned something about this problem. Needs to stop NOW.
Edit- Thank you all for amazing responses. Made my day/Night :)

2 RepliesMy friend has a stutter and to this day we've never talked about it. There's some unwritten code of acceptance there.
-
4 RepliesI try not to take myself too seriously. If you gotta hate on me I'll out-self-deprecate you and you'll be laughing so hard you'll wonder why you started hating in the first place. Tldr: I can make fun of me better than you can.
-
Would be awesome if you were on PS4, I would've so loved to help you out and do stuff some time. :)
-
Let it go let it go
-
No offense to you, but this post doesn't belong in #Destiny. You or a mod should move this to #Offtopic. Best of luck with your speech.
-
Sorry to hear your speech makes you a target of derision from stupid shallow people. Fortunately there are many good people in the gaming community who can see past such things. I'll just tell you briefly about a friend of mine. He's one of my best friends and also one of the smartest guys I know. He stutters and has always been self-conscious about it. But he's also an MIT trained computer engineer, worked for Disney R&D (Imagineering!) and has authored several books and is a leader within his chosen hobbyist club. All of these things have required him to become a regular public speaker, which he does comfortably despite his halting delivery. He's been on TV, radio, innumerable podcasts and in-person presentations. It doesn't take long for most people to realize he really knows what he's talking about and they give him the space to say it and they're glad they did. In the long run, his "disability" just isn't.

5 RepliesIf I ever own a cat I'm naming it cerbal pawsy

Picking on someone who has a disability is a piece of $hit in my book. That person was born that way, they can't help it.
-
7 RepliesMy girl has MS and ill hulk smash anybody that messes with her.
-
I'm glad I'm older now cause I had a few jokes just to bring it down but I'm better than that. Hang in there it's a rough in the gaming world. My advise is make friends that don't care, or don't use a mic with strangers.

1 ReplyIt's tough being a teen because other teens are the biggest assholes on the planet. It's interesting because the mean kids often become the unemployed adults.
-
1 ReplyWell treating people with a disability no different than others could mean teasing. For example, if I knew you I might nickname you "Porky". It wouldn't be intended as anything mean, it would just be a joke between friends. And you'd be welcome to pick a similar nickname for me and use it as a gentle joke, too. However, outright mocking you would be too far. I wouldn't do that. And physical abuse is a crime. Anyone who beats up a physically or mentally disabled person without just cause is trash. Complete and utter trash. (Not that it's okay to beat up anyone without just cause) That's just my two cents. Have fun out there, buddy.

2 RepliesTotally know what you mean with the out of air part. It doesn't usually effect me but it does from time to time and is frustrating. People put others down to feel superior. This game is supposed to be fun. Ditch the losers and I'm sure there are plenty of us guardians still on the side of light to game with

7 RepliesWhen did stuttering become a disability?
-
2 RepliesI play with a guy that has a stutter. It's not a big deal I don't know why people would make it a big deal.

2 RepliesThey stutter cause they've been sucking dick too much.

As Nolan120 said below, You're right, its the "internet enabled" mentality that causes most of the issues with hateful comments during gameplay these days, and even on this forum as indicated by some of the comments here in this thread. To "poke fun" at someone with a disability whether in person or behind the veil of the internet is wrong, plain and simple. The people that do this and try to hide behind "oh, I was just making a joke" are people I want nothing to do with. Most of you need to take a good look in the mirror and think about what the OP said in his initial post, and when you comment in here again, do it in a civil manner. Exercise good behavior in Destiny and in your non-gaming life and maybe it'll make you feel better. Cheers

Hang in there, buddy. There are dicks everywhere.
-
I stutter cause I talk too fast it isn't rare nor too common. But they know I'm better than them so they don't say shit :p
-
I use to stutter up tomiddle school and into high school, not sure why either. It definitely sucks and you dont want to socialize though because you dont want people to think your slow or whatever. Thing i found was certain words i wouldnt stutter on so i would try and start talking with those words. Eventually moving to more words and now its gone thankfully. Still not sure where it came from but it sucks and would never think less of people stuttering or any type of disability. Happy new year all and see you in the tower !

Nice post dude, I hope other people who struggle see this. Don't give any thought to the haters, they are probably immature and/or thick.
-
3 RepliesI feel like humanity as a whole has made a lot of strides. Ever watch the 300? They used to throw babies with disabilities off of a cliff. Unfortunately, you can only control you. And, if you react negatively, you are allowing other people to control you, too. I know it might be hard, but try playing along once. Most of the time, by playing along, you take all the power away from a bully and they stop. Smile, and have a good time.
-
my friend, ignore those idiots. i truly belive in karma because it happened to me many times. i did some horrible stuff in the past and now try to do right. i have a disability, too. it happens everytime i play destiny's crucible. I SUCK...

1 ReplyPeople always try to act ballsy and like a douche over a pc or console, but I tell you. It is a different story if that person tried saying that same crap in person. That said, don't let the immature trolls get to you. They do not have any lives of their own and they know it.
