Human origins

Who in here believes in evolution? Friendly and educational debate, not ignorant people who just a open there mouth. Edit 1: didn't put in off topic because I really want to know what my fellow smart guardians think. So please don't write off topic I'd appreciate it Edit 2: I guess guardians this debate will be over. Smart guardians most likely won't touch this topic.

  • Evolution has been proven it doesn't matter whether you believe in or not. People and animals are still currently evolving.

If you stumbled across a watch on the floor, would you conclude it was possibly formed through the culmination of many different elements coming together "in time"? Or would you conclude it must've had a designer? A watch is an incredibly intricate object with many moving parts operating with precision and sequentially. Remove a simple gear from the watch and it fails to operate as intended. The universe (according to our limited understanding) has been likened to the intricacies of watch. There are many different parts moving harmoniously and with similar accuracy. Example: If the earth was positioned closer to or farther away from the sun, it would not be suitable enough to sustain human life due to the extreme temperatures either hot or cold. Therefore, can you logically conclude it could also have a designer? Through personal research, I have found that the Bible does not dispute science and its many discoveries but in many ways contributes to a further understanding on discussions like these. The field of Biomimetics is a great example of this.

We are the flood, not guardians, Desticle. And to answer your question. I believe in survival of the fittest, but not Darwinism. Believing in Evolution is idiotic, it is a theory not a fact. Evolution just happens to be the most logical possibility that has been theorized to date.

My problem with evolution comes from physiology and the complex systems that have lead to the various systems within our bodies. The optic nerve, for example, is useless in and of itself. It takes every piece of anatomy within the eye for sight to work and each piece is a hindrance to the evolution of a human without them all forming at the exact same time...together...and that is impossible according to principles of evolution. From the way a cell in the biceps breaks down ATP, to everything needed for hearing...for tasting...etc...every small system within our body is far to complex and dependent upon each other for it to come into existence over the course of infinite years...much less...billions.

              • I will preface my response with a simple fact: I am a Christian. Thus, I believe in God and that he created Earth and the entire universe. However, I won't shove the Bible or Christianity down your throat because a) that's not what this debate is about and b) in my opinion, that's not the proper way to bring people to Christ. That being said, I do believe in evolution to an extent. Survival of the Fittest is obviously true. Obviously, the wolf with the best sense of smell is going to locate the food first. That is simple and true. Keeping that in mind, it is safe to say that I believe in adaptation across generations rather than full on evolution. Keeping with the wolf example, the wolf that gets to the food first is going to be the most popular among the lady wolves, and thus the next generation will be slightly more keen of smelling. That continues, where in some environments certain traits are more important/valued than others, and you get the diversity we have today. TL;DR: God created Earth + universe, adaptation across generations rather than full on evolution.

                  • I'm curious, are you referring to Darwinism and the theory of evolution? Or the survival of the fittest?? If it is Darwinism then I would certainly like to know the last time you've seen a primate evolve into a person, or a fish crawl up on land and sprout arms and legs? Their is minor evolution, essentially what's referred to as survival of the fittest.. The strongest buck will breed with does, an their off spring will be stronger bucks and does, and then their offspring will repeat the process and so on.. This is evolution, will their sometimes be anomalies such as a discoloration, or a slight change in appearance that passes to further generations? Yes, but by no means has thee ever been an ameba that's transformed into a fish and eventually into a human or any other species.. God created man, and from the rib of a man he created the woman. God created the heavens, and the earth and all that lies between.. And before you argue think of this.. I rather be wrong and believed, than to not believe and be wrong..
But I'm not wrong..
• Somewhat. It is a work in progress that I often find some Atheists claim as fact but really is really just speculation built on assumptions. We are working towards an answer.

                      • I'm a college student for environmental science, and after taking biology classes, I'm convinced that biological things are machines, man. Chemical engines, assembly lines, lines of code, everything. There are parallels between biology and machines, man. What came first, the machine or the one who assembled the machine? That's what I want to know.

I believe in evolution. That being said, I am seeig a lit of posts here claiming to believe in a God. I see them recuering to already discusses things in many other places. I would love to debate but there seems to be a lot of people here tht believe in God and debating everyone of them seems unreasonable. Just a few quick ones I'd like to adress "Its better to believe and be wrong than to not believe and be wrong" This is kown as pascals wager. It is not only, in my eyes, a coward's way out, it very shortsighted. What if you are wrong about jesus? What if budda was right? What if islams is right? What if your partiular brand of christianity is wrong and your beighbor's particular brand is the right one? "Evolution is a theory, not a fact." Wrong. Gravity is a theory. Germs are a theory. Are you going to tell me those things are not real either? The word theory has a different meaning in when using itin scientific terms. A theory is made up of facts. If you have no facts, you have no theory. "Everything is so pretty it must have a designer! Like a clock, or a house! It couldn't be random!" Wrong again. First, there is a diefference here. The creation and orbit of planets and stars is a natural occurence, the creation of a watch is an artificial occurrence. One needs intervention to happen, the other one is known to happen with no intervention of any kind ever being observed. Also, just to throw this out there: evolution does not explain the origin of life, it explains the origin of the species. It is a valid answer to say that you believe in a god and evolution. I disagree with it, but it is a valid response.
