It's so damn pathetic that Microsoft and Sony can't prevent this hacking bullshit. Every time you get on Xbox or PlayStation the online gaming servers are always down! Seriously we pay $400 to $500 dollars on consoles and this is the shit we get?! Come the hell on now.

13 RepliesA DDOS attack is an overload. They can't prevent or anticipate that, they can only stop it after it has happened. Good people had to work on Christmas just to get the servers back up and running, so have a little compassion for them, please.

It's not a hack

Here's the only problem, there is no perfect defense. Everything in the IT field is mostly reactive. Sure, you can create beast anti virus software but virus programmers are just going to tailor their programs to work around that forcing you to create a way to block that virus and, hopefully, similar ones. But then programmers are just going to figure out how to get around that. There are too many possiblities with code. It makes it difficult, or maybe impossible, to predict how someone is going to attack you. As for the DDoS, it's pretty much a traffic jam. Running an online service means you are constantly accepting connections, you have to. So if someone decides to send you 2 million requests for a connection over and over again, there's very little you can do to stop that because you don't have access to the sources that are sending the requests. I'm not really sure how you would stop that as anyone could do it.

6 RepliesThe lizard -blam!- ddos'd xbl. They didn't hack it. They're wanting to get attention. The only attention they'll get is a kick in the ass if they're found.

I agree. Because my dad bought me everything I need for ps4 online and I see this.....

What ever happened to microsofts "skynet" of 300,000 servers...?
-
Edited by SouthernHeat: 12/26/2014 4:06:34 PMI found the article from black hat that not only shows the detailed measures available to stop DDoS but how much it cost psn the 3 days it was down. I puts it in better words than I could. 177 million, thats a severe loss and it wouldn't make mathematical sense to not upgrade servers. This is why I stand behind it beind LS and sonys/microsofts partisl blame for not taking them seriously when they've done it before. The most stupid part of this in my opinion is that both companies knew about this for close to a month, and the attack was this bad
-
4 RepliesIt's called ddos and it's just overloading servers. So everyone go to sleep and it'll all be okay tomorrow
-
The only time I wasn't online was between 12-5 because I was spending time with my family. I received tons of text messages of friends freaking out asking me "is your live working ?" lol. Came back & everything seemed fine so I advanced crapfare for a lil while till it was time to gtav the night.

It's not a server overload it wouldn't be down this long. I'm getting pissed though I was really looking forward to playing when I woke up this morning, since I couldn't play at all yesterday. Wtf is it going to be back up today or not?
-
That's funny because the Government can't even prevent it. Calm your tits

That's what I did since I want playing Destiny.lol

1 ReplyThe console price has nothing to do with it. In all actuality your only paying about $50 a year for this service. That's ~$4.16 a month. Lizard squad said PSN was harder to get into than Xbox live. So for ~$4.16 I would say we get what we pay for and is no fault of theirs that this "group" did this to these services.
-
Hackers can do what they please. If they can get classified files from the states I'm sure they can get into psn or live lol
-
1 ReplyYeah Sony and Microsoft! Why don't you have an unlimited amount of bandwidth you lazy cheapskates!
-
11 Repliesddos isn't a hack you can do it from a laptop, and it can't be prevented
-
Please don't call DDOSing hacking. Getting the bot-net is hacking but using it is child's play.

Cough cough ddos cough cough
does anyone have some cold medicine
1 ReplyWhat's a server?

3 RepliesYou can't stop people from overloading servers. This isn't officially a hack but more so a ddos which is basically shoving so much stuff down the service that makes it do suicide.
