Met a 31 who never did VOG

I was in a strike lobby today and was talking to these two guys, all level 31. I asked if they wanted to bang out the vault real quick cause we were bored and one of them said they never tried it before. I didn't even know what to say. Your guys thought? EDIT: I'm not here to diss anyone who hasn't completed the raid yet I'm just pointing out a major flaw in the game. This guy who has never even attempted the games biggest and hardest challenge outranks someone who has completed it countless times and grinded hours for a full set. This is not right imo. I'm also not saying not to but vendor gear either. I had 3 30s pre DLC and got full sets of vanguard gear for all 3 classes. That's just how the game goes. I personally thought that was interesting to see someone at nearly max level that never did VOG. So it goes to show that level honestly means nothing I guess... EDIT 2: So a lot of people in the comments have come to a consensus that they feel like bungie handed out gear to everyone. I personally believe that they should have had a higher level requirement to buy vanguard gear instead of 20. In a perfect gaming world the minimum level to buy gear should be 30. But obviously many people never got full VOG gear due to lack of time or just didn't have the luck. I think it should have been at least 28 or 29 tho as it is fairly easy to obtain that rank. This would have also prevented people from buying the game and going from 20 to 31 in a matter of hours. Also it would kind of force people to complete the VOG before taking on the next raid head on. EDIT 3: I think some people are getting the wrong idea here. I never said anyone was forced to raid even thought it's the biggest piece of content in the game by far. I just pointed out a shortcoming on bungies part. I don't think that the biggest and most enjoyable part of the game is made obsolete with absolutely no incentives or reasons to play it anymore. I loved the VOG and even offered the poor guy to try it out for the first time. For some reason he had no interest in completing it at all and just left after the strike. I thought that was pretty weird to be honest. EDIT 4: Well it seems like there are a lot of you guys who also are 30+ and haven't competed the raid yet. If you haven't done either VOG or CE I will happily help anyone do it (I'm on Xbox 360). Lvl 32 Hunter Lvl 31 Titan Lvl 31 Warlock I can help with pretty much anything in game and get a team together very quickly if you guys want a raid team. Just leave you GT down below and I'll try and hit you guys up as soon as possible. For those on other consoles good luck finding a team and try to bang that out. I use the recruitment section a lot in the forums to find quick and good teams to raid with. Hope you guys are able to get that raid done! Questions, Comments, Concerns?

  • Raid is always going to be a minority sport, most players are just not interested (17% have complete a raid on normal PS4, 10% on hard). It just does not have mass-appeal. So there will be plenty of 31's happy to stay that 2/3rds of a light point below raiders. If Bungie was to make exotics only drop on raid completion and give exotic armor 10 light point above vanguard, then they might get more people interested. Otherwise it's a lot of effort for little reward.

  • Played VoG on easy on my hunter I'm leveling up finally. Ran into a 31 also who had never fully completed the vault. Also had some cocky kid in the group who thought he was awesome and everyone else was a noob. Complained whenever someone died. Thought he was the only one who could solo Mars then died. He was anoying but we all laughed at him the entire time.

  • That doesn't make sense at all. Most of the player base is casual. A lot of the player base, like me, can't guarantee hours of uninterrupted game play. A lot of players, like me, have to rely on third party sites to find people to play with. I just played and completed my first raid today. That was thefirst time since launch I could dedicate myself to it. It's more convenient for me to utilize the iron banner. I can do 15 minute increments without much worry. Does that mean I should be left behind, and thus lose interest in keeping on playing and paying money for new content? If your answer is yes, then you don't understand a successful business model.

  • I'm a level 29 (over-halfway to 30), and I haven't done the VoG, I got there once, by myself, no objective arrow or anything, I was just like "WHAT DO I DO?!" Then, after walking for a few minutes, I became...LONELY. I wouldn't mind help, buuuuuut, is this going to require a mic? I don't have headphones (crazy, no?).

    • I didn't do VOG until CE came out and I had the gear. People were a lot less patient with new guys back in VOG days. Before the LFG site I was purely strikes. When CE came out I was very lucky and did it with guys I worked with. I used LFG later for the first time and found a crew to permanently raid with and that's how I completed and learned VOG. I hate using LFG posts or sites because I come across way too many assholes.

    • 31's that haven't completed vog once bothers the shit out of me and bungie definitely -blam!-ed up on that part. They should have only let pre dlc vendor gear get you level 27/28. That would cause people to get the vendor gear leveled up to run vog but not make it stupid easy, then once you get raid gear you can grind out to 30. Post dlc vendor gear should only get you to level 30, so that Christmas noobs would have had the option to run vog or buy vendor gear and get them up to level to run Crotas end, then obtain the raid gear to hit 32. Having only 1 level between bought gear and max level raid gear takes away from the excitement of hitting the level cap. I personally thing vog is the most fun, and the people that started out late have no reason to do it because post dlc vendor gear is already better than it. That's just my 2 pennies. Hopefully they don't screw it up again with the future dlc's to come

      • You can't go from 20 to 31 "in a matter of hours" if it's your first character. There is no freaking way. Even if you have a higher level buddy or a few of them. There's no way people are going to have the ascendant shards necessary to get the vendor/randomly dropped 33 light gear to where 31 is possible that fast. Unless you mean 8+ hours of grinding, and by then they'll be level 24-27 on only blue gear. Not to mention you need a commendation(at least one, two if you need both torso and head armor), there's another thing people need to sink in hours to get. Sorry, it just isn't possible unless the player was just stupid lucky. Now, secondary characters are(and should be) another matter. In my Warlock travels, I've amassed enough gear to get a hunter to 31 and a Titan to 30. That's just how it is.

        • Lvl 31 and never done vog or ce. I very often am concerned that I don't have enough time or don't want to hold anyone back. Plus, because I am only a casual player, I don't have a friends list that is all willing to get together when I'm on. #60hourworkweeks.

          • I have a level 31 hunter and have not run any raids. Not because I don't want to, just my internet sucks ass. Nobody wants to raid with someone who gets disconnected from the servers all the time. I guess that's the price I pay for living out in the country.

You do realize this is how most mmo games are. You do not really have to or need to do the lower raids to get the better gear. So no it does not need to change for raids are not the most important aspect of the game for everyone. It may be for you but not everyone is a raider or likes doing raids. Level was not meant to mean anything but a marker for how much time a player put in the game not how good that player was ever. Same with every other game that has a level lik CoD/BF any game really, level does no equate to skill. It just equates to time played in general. In most if not all mmo/rpg styled games level just indicates progression in the game, not skill or experience or how good the player is at playing the game.

              • The ability to not HAVE to complete a social activity (the raid) is great IMO. Just because he didn't grind the raid doesn't mean he didn't grind vendors. It's not a bad shortcut at all either.

I've got a 31 Hunter and never finished VoG and only even attempted once. It's a shame because the people I nearly finished it with were cool and that's hard to find. Second time I tried, I got booted for using a maxed bad juju (pre 331 weapons).

                • I believe all players should raid Atleast once! It's pretty fun. You meet other Guardians. Get exclusive rewards that can't be found anywhere else. And over come challenges in the game with teamwork. But at the same time doing a raid can be difficult if you have no idea what your doing. Which is why it's good to play with experienced raiders so they can show you the ropes. Overall raiding is completely worth it in my opinion.
