I just treated myself to a pair of astro a50s. Whats your opinion on spending 300$ on a pair of 7.1 dolby surround sound headsets?
Edit 1:
These things are no joke .
Edit 2:
Just played some games in battlefield 4 and let me tell you i feel like im inside the game with all the explosions and gunfire. Feel like im inside the movie saving pvt. ryan.
Final Edit :
Im returning these tomorrow and getting the a40s. The a50s sound amazing but i can get the same crispy quality with the a40s and not have to worry about charging them every 6hours. I also think the a50s are more prone to technical problems then the a40s. They seem delicate and the fact that they are wireless makes it even more vulnerable to technical failure in the future ( they're not even wireless) as they require a chat cable. So in reality I'm paying more money for no reason when the a40s are the same thing if not better.

I think you are making the right choice. I absolutely LOVE my A40s and have since the day I got them. I doubt the A50s have a hugely different sound quality.
-
Been rockin Turtle Beach PX5's for 3-4 years. Still work perfectly. But I was just given the A50's as a gift. Haven't tried em yet.
-
Well I spent that money on GTA V and loads of other games.. I haven't used a headset since turtle beaches in MW2.. They helped but only lasted three months before it couldn't pick up my voice :(
-
Still using my tb x41 (no longer made). Also, I read somewhere that 7.1 doesn't truly exist on headphones, as it is too close to distinguish. Article gave example of some1 clapping behind your head, no way to distinguish where. I could be wrong. Does xbox1/ps4 support 7.1?

I bought some Stealth 500x from Turtle Beach for 230. 7.1 surround sound is amazing and crisp. The best part is that they are completely wireless. Not even a chat cable! I love them!
-
Good. Get those A40's.
-
All wireless headsets have a chat cable. And yeah a40s are just as good. You should Google coupons for it I got my for 200
-
I wish I could play with those things, but I have sensitive ears and would get constant ear infections as I play way too much.
-
Get the skull candy plyr 2 they cost $180 and its the same thing because they bougth out astro gaming a few years ago. I have both and you cant tell difference
-
1 ReplyI bought a pair of Astros a few years ago and found the build quality was extremely poor for the money busted them in no time. Hope they have gotten better over the years as the amp is top notch
-
Just bought a pair of a40's, there are sounds in this game that ppl will simply never hear, I love them!
-
If you've got that kind of cash to spare on headphones, why not? I probably would if I did. Because shiny!
-
1 ReplyHeadphones are absolute thrall manure, however the mixamp is Legendary. Grab a pair of ath ad700 and the ant lion mod mic, you'll make more friends.
-
I have the 50 set. Love em.
-
I've had turtle beaches(multiple pairs) all of them broke. Got a pair of tritans: broke. Got a pair of Astros: still working to this day. I've had them for maybe two years now? Definitely the best headset I've had. And I'm talking about the a30s, not even then a40 xD
-
4 RepliesI had a pair of beats studios for a couple years and I recently realized I could use them for my PS $370 well invested
-
Yeah I spent 200 on turtle beach xoseven Not worth it...
-
A40s are nice
-
I have them too. Overpriced and mediocre audio quality. Probably better than all of the other popular headsets though.
-
If you have that kind of brass why not? I myself own a pair of Giotek H3+ and truth be told they don't do a bad job. Not the best but for £40 I'm not complaining.
-
I agree, I think the a40s are better, (i have both a40 and a50). If you do want a very VERY good headset that is worth the money, the Astro a40s and a50s are the ones for you. They are both very durable. I have had my A40s for 3 years and they are still kicking ass. The A50s did not last as long though. They are basically built the same, so they are both very durable, but since the A50s are wireless, you will have issues. recently after a year of using a50s, my wireless adapter finally shit itself. Sort of, it basically has no issues for an hour then the sound will stop coming to my headset. That means I have to un plug them, and re-sync them. (Its annoying)

1 Replyfor the love of god don't return your A50's lol I had the same thought process you did and got the A40's and problems after problems popped up and the mix amp is shit and the cables and input to the headset it junk. I've been trying to return them for over 2 years now and I just get automated responses back from the robots that work there. I've been refused a good phone number and manager several times and I still have this broke PoS and can't return it for store credit or anything! they won't fix it! Astro is on some bullshit and I wish I could fly out to where ever they are and punch their teeth in because they are a scam that sponsors "professional" gaming. End rant.

1 ReplyI've had my Astro A50s for about 2 years now and I couldn't be happier with them. Best set of wireless surround sound headphones I've ever had. Works great with my XB360, XB1 (with adapter), PS3, PS4, and PC. Not a single issue yet.

2 RepliesEdited by D2 is cancer: 12/27/2014 4:25:09 PMIf you spent over $80 for a headset you're not a very informed consumer. For $300 you could've gotten a pair of audiophile grade headphones (like the sennheiser HD 598) and an amp (FiiO 11) and it'd shit so much on the crappy Astro that there would be nothing to say other than 'lol astro'. Astro are for the same kind of consumers who buy Alienware and think they're not getting buttf*cked price wise.
-
2 RepliesForget the Astro headset. Get the mix amp and pair that work a pair of quality headphones like the Audio Technica M50. The sound quality will amaze you.
-
I use my Bose AE2 wireless and they work pretty good. They're light, comfortable, decent sound quality, and the battery charge last pretty long.
