In the first ruling of its kind in China, a Beijing court said on Friday that a psychiatric counseling center was in the wrong when it attempted to cure a 30-year-old man of homosexuality with a mix of hypnosis and electric shocks.
Gay rights activists have said they hoped the lawsuit will help put an end to the practice of “gay conversion” therapy in the country.
“We’re incredibly happy,” said Yang Teng, the plaintiff in the case. Mr. Yang earlier told China Real Time (which previously quoted him using the pseudonym Xiao Zhen) that staff at a clinic in the southwestern city of Chongqing told him they could cure his homosexuality, then put him in a state of light hypnosis and shocked him with electrodes every time he thought of gay sex.
“In her decision, the judge said that homosexuality is not a disease, therefore the clinic had no basis to undertake treatment,” he said.
The decision by the Haidian District Court in northern Beijing ends weeks of tension after the court missed a deadline to issue a ruling in the case. The presiding judge, Wang Chenghong, couldn’t be reached on Friday. The Beijing High People’s Court, which is responsible for handling questions from foreign media, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Anything with
hypnosis and electric shocks
is probably in the wrong.

2 RepliesSo long as it isn't forced whats the problem? If people wanna try to change then let them.

Nobody EVER said hypnosis and electro-shock was a good thing. However, it should NOT be illegal for a counselor to help a homosexual turn away from the homosexual lifestyle; THAT is wrong. I have several friends who are counselors who have had to decline people's request for help in that area. Believe it or not, people CAN stop being homosexual; it happens more often than people allow themselves to know.

I know tons of people here who still think its a disease or some sort of mental disorder -_-. The ones with mental problems are the ones who can't accept diversity.. give them some therapy.

5 RepliesNot surprised. After all the USSR made homosexuality and abortion legal in 1917-1920. Of course Stalin made both those things illegal a decade later, because Stalin. Brainwashing is not okay and I don't get why it's still legal in the US.

5 RepliesChina needs more gays as it is overpopulated. It has nothing to do with morals and everything to do with the fact that there are too damn many people in the country. Your argument is invalid.
I'm not saying that gay camps are good, but your logic is horrid. shitty b8 2/10
5 RepliesThere's nothing wrong with gay conversion therapy if the patient himself wants to be "cured" of it.

3 RepliesBecause America has "gay conversion" therapy? How the hell did I miss this?

3 RepliesHas there ever been a time where a gay person was forced to go to the clinic? If not, you have no say in what they do with their lives. If they aren't happy and want to try to change themselves of their own accord, that's their business.

5 RepliesUh That's not a problem ...anywhere really
