Crota's End Normal Guide (In Depth)

Xur Items: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/90818916/0/0/1 Xur Armour Upgrades: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/90819246 Xur Weapon Upgrades: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/90819421 Stage 1: The Darkness Once the bridge has formed on the surface jump into the hellmouth. Chest 1
The first chest is inside one of the doors along the left wall. You will be able to tell which door it is because it is illuminated by a light. (Seems to a random door each time)
In here you will get a debuff that stacks up to 10 called "weight of darkness" this will make you move very slowly and will decrease your jump. The goal of this section is to follow the lights. They will take down the stacks at 1 per second. -If you stand near the lights for too long they will explode and kill everyone. - The easiest way to do this is everyone move as a group and use supers that can kill multiple things at once. If one person gets killed. Everyone stay together and revive then keep moving. -Eventually you will get to a giant circle which everyone stands on to form a bridge while fighting off the hive. Once it is formed run across and just keep running. Stage 2: The Bridge The aim of this stage is for everyone to cross the bridge. -The middle platform forms the bridge -Left and Right Annihilator Totems must have 1 person defending against the hive. - If Annihilator Totems are not held they will kill everyone Only the person holding a sword can cross the bridge and only when its fully formed - Easiest way to do this is to have 1 person on each platform. The other 3 kill the hive until the Swordbearer spawns. Kill him as fast as possible. One person grabs the sword he drops and runs across the bridge. The person holding the sword must kill the Gatekeeper on the other sword. Slaming R2 on him is the fastest way. You will then lose the sword. The person that is now on the other side DO NOT STEP ON THE PLATFORM TO BUILD THE BRIDGE It will trigger the Annihilator Totems on the left and right needing to be held. -Rinse and repeat until 4 people are across. - This time there will only be 2 people on the original side. ONLY THE PEOPLE ON THE GATEKEEPER SIDE HOLD THE BRIDGE PLATFORM AND SIDE PLATFORMS -Remaining 2 kill the next swordbearer and 1 comes across. -With the last swordbearer the people on the gatekeeper side can help snipe and/or fire rockets at him to help kill him. -Once everyone is over. A bunch of hive will attack you. -Once the 2 Ogres and 2 Wizards are killed you have completed the stage. Chest 2
This Chest is located at the end of the hallway of thrall and shreikers. Before jumping down to stage 3. It is behind a door that slowly closes once the hallway opens up. So one team mate has to make it inside the door before it closes, while the others shoot the shreikers to get rid of the invisible walls. Once one person is inside they can open it from the inside with their ghost for everyone else.
Stage 3: The Summoning Crystal This Stage must be done in 3 minutes! The aim is to kill Ir, Yut The Deathsinger You must do it before his debuff (Litugy of Ruin) kills you. Litugy of Ruin lasts 30 seconds. It will wipe your whole team if you don't kill the deathsinger before it reaches 0 -Attack the kneeling knights in front of you to start the song - 4 of 6 people go straight to the top middle behind the rubble. - Have the other 2 (1 go left the other right) go up the stairs and through the door. There will be a forcefield with 2 Wizards and The Deathsinger. Just shoot 1 bullet at the forcefield and then run back to where the other 4 or standing. -2 wizards will follow them out into the open where everyone kills them as fast as possible. -Once both are dead 3 people go left, 3 people go right and a shreiker will have spawned on each side next to the forcefield. Kill it as fast as possible. - EVERYONE GET BACK TO THE TOP MIDDLE TO REGROUP AND AVOID THE SHREIKER EXPLOSION -The forcefield will now be down! - This is the easiest way as a team of 30's. Everyone run into whatever side has less knights. Jump around in the room and shoot rockets and everything you have at The Deathsinger. -Once he is dead everyone get back to the middle and slowly kill off the remaining enemies. They will no longer keep spawning. Stage 4: Crota REQUIRES AT LEAST 1 LEVEL 31 TO BEAT YOU WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY REGEN HEALTH -Everyone must be touching the crystal to start the fight. -You will then be surrounded. Have a titan use blessing of light and run in and out of it to kill the enemies around you when the walls break. - 5 people run down to where you originally enter the room - 1 person grab the chalis (big glowly light) in the middle and run to the rest of the group. -Holding the chalis regens your health. - A swordbearer will spawn in the middle and will eventually come down to you or be drawn down. -Kill him. -The level 31 must grab the chalis and the sword -Everyone else shoot at crota to take down his shield - Once his shield is down he will be vulnerable to the sword for like 2 seconds. -Hit him once or twice with the sword and run back down. -Rinse and repeat. -Ogres spawn every 2 rounds be careful of those. If someone dies a giant orb will spawn at the back where crota spawns. Shoot it until its dead or you will all die Wish everyone the best! Edit: Removed the No Loot from the Deathsinger as Loot is being added in the next patch.

Some sub-tips for those having issues on stage 2: 1st person to grab the sword/cross the bridge is the most important. Should be done by someone that can use the sword on a gatekeeper and win every time (I'll give some tips to improve your odds later) while also being able to hold their own against the ranged adds (1 yellow knight bullet-sponge, 3 acoyltes) or at the very least hold agro from them as others cross with the sword since it's very difficult to handle a gatekeeper while being shot by the ranged adds. Kill the acolytes every time they come (3 come each time a swordbearer is killed); either kill the yellow knight each time (if you need to and have spare ammo), blind him (flash-bang grenade, bubble + helm of the saint, etc.) as the sword carrier crosses to fight the gatekeeper, or at the very least grab his agro and draw him away from the gatekeeper. This yellow knight will respawn with the next wave of acolytes (each time a swordbearer is downed) if killed and requires a LOT of ammo to kill, so best to neutralize him without killing him. Now, for those having issues killing their Gatekeeper with the sword consistently, try my "patented" (joking) technique as follows. When you approach the Gatekeeper you're intended to kill, don't immediately begin spamming attacks on him, have patience and observe what he's doing/where he's focused upon; best success is to intentionally let him get the first attack and avoid it (several ways, but sprint + slide at a 45 degree angle to either side of him work best in my experience). Now, there are multiple situations for a relic-bearer to be aware of in order to accomplish this, but let's simply focus upon the Gatekeeper. He'll either be: 1.) Kneeling without agro on you or anyone else - In this situation you CAN open up with attacks immediately upon him so long as he doesn't get up and immediately try attacking as you get closer. 2.) Standing in place (important that he's not moving) with his back to you as you approach - in which case again, you CAN open up with attacks if he doesn't agro upon approach. 3.) Agro'd upon someone else (either moving towards them or even in the process of attacking them) - a dangerous situation that can lead to you taking ranged splash damage since the ranged knight (and acolytes) will likely also be shooting at the location where the Gatekeeper will be. If no significant ranged threats are present, simply wait for him to finish his attack animation upon his current target or draw his agro and sprint + slide to either side of him THEN attack. 4.) Agro's upon you as you approach - optimal and most likely situation. Sprint towards him, wait for him to begin a lunge, then slide at an angle to either side of him, immediately begin attacking him after your slide. It's important not to attack him while he's in the middle of doing an attack. His attack animation renders him (briefly) immune to being staggered with your sword attacks so timing is key. Personally, I don't use the ground smash attack since it has that slight delay between activating and landing (potentially resulting in letting him animate to attack you even if you're spamming it perfectly). I use the "triple-combo" of (default settings) R2 + R2 + R1 (which is melee, melee, shoot) - and no it doesn't do the "ground smash", it's a special combo that deals a good bit more damage (and causes a more severe/more consistent stagger) than simply spamming either R2 or R1. Use it three times in a row and he'll be dead without so much as being able to look at you funny. Once you've mastered the tactic of letting the Gatekeeper attack first, avoid it, THEN open up on him, you'll have greater success at killing multiple Gatekeepers should anyone before you have failed (I've managed to kill 3 - one of them having been wounded, though), making you a great choice for a slot in the raid as "clean-up". Hope this helps those having issues with the sword against the gatekeeper.

      • Something we found out about the bridge event. The sword is on a timer. Once the bearer dies you only have so long to pick up the sword and make it across to kill the gatekeeper. Every time a bearer dies a gatekeeper spawns, so don't miss picking up the sword. The event is on a timer and will proceed even if you don't have all 6 across, so don't take too long. The far side can be 3 man'd by lv.30s with gjallerhorn. Our team did it last night.

Solid. For part 3, there has to be something additional to accomplish for loot to drop. Kind of how the extra chest appears for not letting the Templar teleport

        • Please edit that exotic chest randomly spawns in one of the 2 rooms on the left during the dark run part. Spawn and if the first beacon would be north then it would be north west of spawn point. May take a few wipes to appear

          • Nice. The raid seems a tad short unfortunately and the fact you don't get loot from the encounter after bridge is sad.

          • Also if your having trouble with the first section with the lights and thralls its alot easier to break into 2 groups. group 1 starts going from light to light while group 2 follows behind them about 2 lights. it will split the thrall in 2 so no group gets over run and group 2 can revive anyone who dies up ahead. group 2 will always have a 10x weight on them though so it can be a little slow.

            • Just another way to beat the first part easily is go in 2 groups of 3. Once the first team reaches the 2nd pillar the 2nd team goes. They will have weight of darkness maxed out and move extremely slow but there will be only a few parts where the enemies actually attack you. I took the found verdict in as i walked slowly through this. The first team made it to the circle to spawn the bridge but died. This was ok because once we got there they were ready for revive and we took the circle over and made the bridge. I missed the chests because we didn't bother looking (regretting it now that everyone has things posted on where they could be) But this only took us 3 tries once we split it up into 2 groups. My team was 4 level 29s and 2 30's. I don't remember the mix of Titan and Hunter but I was the only Warlock. Get your agility maxed out if you're going to be in the first group also. If anyone tries this way let me know how it went. It's more time consuming for each attempt but like i said it only took us 3 tries

            • heres another quick tip for Crota. when the fight is starting and you have to summon crota by standing next to the green thing have all but 1 person stand next to it. if the guy not standing next to it times it right he can run through the activation area and jump out the window before you get sealed inside. this will let the person outside the room either start working on killing the swordbearer (who spawns from the door under crota) or grab the chalice of light.(which can be passed back into the room through the same windows you jumped out of). no matter what you choose to do once your outside its extremely helpful.
