Crucible is one of the best PvP modes in recent years imho

Just after seeing a few whiney posts about it, figured I'd just lay this out there because its true...its one of the best and most balanced PvP modes in awhile, nothing ever really feels OP, because there's always ways to strike back. Since September I've played crucible daily for hours, its my go to shooter for matches. The beauty Is every weapon feels pretty good and all have their own spin. You can smash face with ARs, Fusions, scouts, HCs, shotties.... I love how each weapon feels fairly different and allows for plenty of styles. I just recently moved into fusions and scouts and both are becoming favorites. I'll always be an AR/shotty guy but this game is making me playing different styles because of how much variation there can be in weapons. I jut figured in a sea of complaints I'd toss this out because I wasn't really thinking I'd PvP a lot when destiny was still on its way and I've become hooked to the crucible. Also with the way Halo MCC is a total disaster, its made me appreciate crucible that much more. Bungie shows they are the master of fun PvP. Who else has found it to be one of the best newer pvps?

  • It poops on cod, a much needed change and it's awesome. Sometimes u run into those groups that are insane old school halo players that go God mode on u, and it's fun trying to find a way to beat those guys. Makes u better players.

  • Honestly I've loved the crucible since I tried it In the beta. There's plenty of different approaches when it comes to terms of class, abilities, and weapons to make it feel varied and it all feels smooth and balanced. Does that mean I don't get pissed when someone consistently kills me with a fusion rifle? No. I will get mad, but instead of whining and calling the gun OP I'll just make it my mission to hunt you down and destroy you.

  • I like the PVP, I just hate when someone has crappy connection. But then again the other day I was a level 10 and I was getting wrecked. I mean last night I was getting wrecked by fusion rifles, but I kept going with my Stranger Rifle and Hand Cannons. I did use my Fusion Rifle after a while. It'll take a while to get good but I'm not gonna worry about KDR too much right now since I'm a noob at Destiny. If I keep running Crucible I'll get better.

  • It is defiantly solid pvp and I enjoy it. However it isn't the best. It has weak game modes with small maps. Combined arms is hurt by few players in the map etc.

      Let me know when the game has implemented: 1). 'True Skill' component into the matchmaking, so everyone is playing with people of there same skill level. THAT'S balance. That's fun. Go back to Halo 2 ranking systems ! 2). The game has an 'Opt Out of Parties' or a ' No parties' checkbox option. If you go into the Crucible solo, and are matched with a bunch of completely randoms, the other teams should be as well. Even the Playing field. Getting put on a team of 5 randoms that refuse to use their team chat *at all*, and all go five separate directions, while the opposing teams are all in party chat, sticking together to control zones, control lanes, heavy amo, etc, while having 2-3 of their guys shooting one, so its 2-3 and sometimes 4 VS. 1 IS STUPID. And yes, you all bragging on the forums about some match with your 39.0 k/d that got it shooting people in the back who didn't see you because they were fighting someone else, *YOU HAVE NO REAL SKILL*. Go check your ego, you're trash, you'll never be a Michael Jordan making millions because of your k/d. Go back to masturbating over your k/d kid. And finally, 3). Modes. DUH. IB should be standard. Capture the flag, where is it? Modes that don't revolve around k/d for the win or points. The old Halo keep away game with the ball. You know, MODES. Add some. Do that, and we'll talk. Until then OP, I disagree fully with your post.

      • It's fun its not perfect could use some more game types other than slayer or a slayer variant like control. A Skill based matchmaking system. I wouldn't say its the best PVP in recent years

      • Until it has a good consistent connection it's just a joke. Every game there is someone lagging or you melee trade or die round a corner. Connection>everything else in PvP. Until then it's just for bounties for me.

          Citing "balance" points being the same points that reduce skill gap in competitive games just shows how bad you're at other games. You're loving the low skill gap because you get mashed on BF, CoD or any other popular shooter you tried to play with your friends only to be embarrassed by how terrible you are.

          • The crucible is great. Some players just get all butt hurt by the fact that they wont go 25-0. It is much more balanced than most mp games. There is a fairly large diversity of weapons used compared to games like cod where everyone uses the same 2. Some players just need to think that they are so great and whine when someone kills them with a special they cry and complain. Its fun, there isnt much camping, and if you are good you can constantly get a ton more points than anyone else.

            • Destiny pvp is one of the most unbalanced competitive multiplayer shooters out there. It is the epitome of an activision shooter: an adrenaline fueled, poorly balanced and easily accessible shooter created to maintain a solid casual fanbase. My only gripe is that nothing else is currently available for me to play on PS4, considering multiplayer fps games have been my major gaming interest for the last 17 years.

                If you believe Crucible PvP is what balanced, fun multiplayer feels like, you have no idea what such a game looks or feels like. There are two possible ways to balance Destiny's PvP based on its game design: shooter-like, or RPG-like. In an RPG scenario, gear, level, and class would all have bearing. They don't in Destiny so we have to skip over that, so onto Destiny as a shooter. Shooter games should have a wide variety of gamemodes, maps, and viable gun choices (situationally, of course). The first aspect: gamemode variety, so let's cover that first. There are no imaginative gamemodes or even a variety of them. There's Deathmatch and FFA. Sure there's Control and Salvage, but the former still relies on kills for score and the latter is never around. By this logic, there are only two real gamemodes. Likewise, the maps aren't all that varied. Want long range? We got two maps for you. Looking for balanced medium range? Nothing. Close range? Boy oh boy do we have you covered. Sure they look different, but the maps are the same at their core. Finally, the weapon balance. Do you see Scout Rifles aside from the VoC and MIDA and Pulse Rifles regularly? Wanna know why you don't? It's because the maps are so small there is no niche for Scouts and Pulses to exist, let alone excel. Auto Rifles hit hard enough that getting shot by one induces flinch equal to the other rifle types. Hand Cannons are just something else, but the ranges of the maps allow for them to do what a Scout Rifle should do: stay on the outskirts and shoot in at the enemy. Special Weapons are a different beast. Shotguns and Fusion Rifles are prevalent throughout because, again, lack of medium and longer ranges. Snipers you may see, but only in the Iron Banner when certain ones pull off one-shots, long range.maps, or maps with one line of sight and a camping spot. Heavy Weapons are...heavy. Noting too wrong with them in the arena/Halo-style power weapon grab game design, except this isn't that. This game emulates a custom-loadout shooter like Call of Duty more heavily. TL;DR: There is bad design driving Crucible in weapons, maps, and gamemodes.

                • If terrible netcoding, shit balancing,stats meaning nothing, lag, and secondary abuse, and primaries being moot, lack of standard modes, 11 crucible maps, that for the most part are cqc shit fests, etc, you consider one of the best pvp modes in years, I pity your choice in mutplayer games, theres nothing wrong with liking it, but its not even close to being one of the best, its somewhere around call of duty in awfulness

                  • This is a Joke right? Destiny's PVP takes less skill than even Metroid Prime 2's PVP. Titanfall may have been a hige letdown to many butt it's the best (new) Shooter pvp game-play by far this year. Crucible is as bad as CoD Ghosts.

                      It's not. The netcode is terrible. Worst in the industry. Worse than BF4 at launch. Map design makes me ashamed there is any possibility that anyone who made Halo 2 maps made these.

                                • To the balance you speak of I can agree most certainly. I guess my qualms with pvp is not the weapons but those that wield them in regards to certain "cheap" practices (which in the end are part of the game). I will also say the ability to break others ults. Is an invaluable ability that allows for a less stagnant game (even though it's infuriating to see your bubble be popped 0.0034 seconds after you put it up on a control point).
