Some polite feedback about today's patch.
I’ve been sitting on and stockpiling Ascendant Energy to decide which legendary and exotics weapons I wanted to upgrade.
I was waiting to collect all Exotic weapons (missing 5). Along the way I meet the other requirements to level Exotic weapon (XP, materials) but don't actually upgrade it when I get to the Energy requirements.
Introducing a new currency requirement against Exotic weapons, without a way to transfer the old currency into the new currency (even if time-limited) is some shenanigans.
I'm sure I'm in the minority of end-game Exotic collectible players who has a problem with today's patch and decision making.
I even understand the design decisions around introducing a new currency for Exotics and requiring that currency. What I don't understand is why you wouldn't allow currency swaps (even if for a limited time) so "forward planners" have a chance to do just that.
Acquiring Strange Coin to purchase Exotic Shards isn't a big deal. I have a decent stock-pile of those as well.Like anything, I'll be just fine and will adapt.
Nonetheless, the decision to change requirements for Exotic upgrades, without an upgrade or translation path from the previous game system (even one where you take it on the chin, like a 2:1 or 4:1 ratio) seems a bit harsh or short-sited.
Update: It's only 1 Exotic Shard to do the "final" upgraded (compared to the final row, when it was Energy) so it's not as punishing as I assumed.

This is definitely an issue I have as well, but there's an even bigger (in my opinion) one. All those Ascendant materials you stockpiled the past couple months are rendered useless with the release of the DLC. To upgrade any weapons or gear from the new raid, you need "Radiant materials" now. Let's be honest, nobody uses regular old legendary weapons in a tough situation except maybe PvP, and even that is rare. The fact we weren't given a heads up on any of this is just flat out disrespectful in my opinion. And to think, this is only a slice of -blam!-ed-in-the-ass pie.

I just wish I didn't have to start over when I want to upgrade my current Exotics. All that time and Ascendant Materials just to start over. There should be some advantage for fully upgraded weapons and gear. Other than that, I'm actually okay with the new system.

1 ReplyIt's good to know, all the Ascendant materials banked up doesn't go to waste.. But there should maybe still be a way to trade the Ascendant materials, like you now made it possible to trade for planet based materials. Which I think is AWESOME. Really gives the game another feel, since you can play Crucible, Strikes, Raids etc... To earn marks and trade, but still.... Now it seems, whats missing is that finally option. Which essentially makes the game as free-to-play as the game deserves be. Please consider it, as it would give the game yet another level of that special feeling, that it do have

2 Repliesat a minimum, there should have been a heads up. I was sitting on a couple of exotics that only needed one more upgrade to see if they were going to get buffed...now I need an exotic shard to upgrade it (not to mention wait until this weekend) where before If i had known i would have just finished upgrading it....also, xur only showing up on the weekend is stupid
-
10 RepliesSo my 280 asendants are trash now. Damnit I should be able to cash or trade them in for something useful
-
I'm only slightly disappointed because I had 3 exotics I was literally about to finish upgrading today :/ and now I need these new shards to finish them off. Other than that I could care less, it gives me something to do with all these repeat exotics so at least I don't feel completely screwed
-
Right now its stupid because they implemented it on a monday and now everybody has to wait til friday to get any unless they want to dismantle some of their exotics.

3 Replieswhile I am grateful for some of the changes, I think these changes should be made in the future 1. Factions should accept both Crucible AND Vanguard marks. they are no less valuable, they still have to be obtained, they are still capped at 100 per week. why should we have to rely on RNG or be forced to play a terrible PvP mode to buy non-Vanguard weapons? why this wasn't in from the start, I have no idea. 2. an option to trade Ascendant materials for Weapons, armour, or anything else we might need. perhaps Xur would be willing to take 20 shards or energy for Exotic Gear? he doesn't always give us what we want, so why should we give him the coins he wants? 3. somewhere... ANYWHERE we can offload our useless Sapphire wire would be appreciated, even if it just converts to 100 Glimmer for every 50 you bring in, PLEASE give me somewhere to get rid of this stuff without wasting it! as for the Exotic Shards, I don't think this system is a great idea. what if you get the final upgrade JUST after Xur leaves? you then have to wait a week just to buy a shard for 1 gun. what if you have multiple Exotics close to being maxed, like me? are they trying to limit us to maxing just 1 Exotic per week? this limiting shit is getting very tiring. if we have the time to invest in the game, we should be awarded for the time we invest!

Edited by OniAngel808: 12/2/2014 9:22:19 PMI had a number of items sitting at one upgrade short because it would not have gotten me the next light level or putting a weapon to the side. Around 50 energy and shards lost =( Also had a friend dissemble some exotics just this past week. I like the change, just dont like how some of these was done in a manner to keep us from reacting like burning hundreds of mats for rep and marks on top of topping off gear.

Feedback? I feel like a sucker. Getting sick of the playing field changing beneath me on a whim. Makes me wonder why I should ever bother saving anything for the future since it could become worthless overnight.

Edited by HunteengWabbits: 12/2/2014 5:43:52 PMI love it. Do you know how many duplicate exotics I had? Now it costs seven coins to upgrade each exotic, meaning you should be able to max out at least three exotics every week just from weekly rewards, and one coin from the fourth. If you aren't running three characters through weeklies, you don't have any room to complain about exotic upgrades. It also means I don't have to choose between upgrading exotics or legendaries. Not to mention that the exotic bounties are meaningful again. Win-win. Or maybe Win-win-win.

1 ReplyYou are not in the minority - I have a shit-ton of exotics that I need to max just by getting mats. Now I am going to have to haul ass tonight to get what I need IF this patch has yet to go live (if it has, then I a boned...)
-
I would like shards more if I could trade some ascendant materials for them. They should be a strange coin not 7, and why is it you only get one shard from each piece of exotic gear? It cost 23 coins for some of the gear....that makes no sense....
-
1 ReplyI feel robbed for dismantling exotics before this patch.

1 ReplyI'd like to see the set-up in game before I make any decisions or statements. If it's ONLY the last slot of an Exotic that needs a shard, then I'm totally cool with it. If it's the last 3 slots that need shards then I will be a bit more annoyed, but I guess it makes sense. I needed something to spend my Strange Coins on anyways.
