Something terribly wrong has happened

Fellow gammers, whether you play Xbox, Playstation, Wii or PC, we have a problem. While some of you hold arguments about things that are wrong with Destiny, or some of you defend it, there is a definite disappointment in this game. But I am not here to profess my deepening sorrow, and cast negative comments on Destiny, today I ask you to look at the bigger picture. With the launch of Destiny many were disappointed with what they received but Destiny was not the only game, games like Elder Scrolls online were met with as much negativity, now I read that CoD AW and SoM were not games that were worth playing. Most of these had many excited fans awaiting their arrival, but to no avail. Watch Dogs, Titan Fall, Elder scrolls online, SoM, Destiny, CoD AW. What has happened to our games? These major titles... Have fallen to dust, and those that promised a long and enjoyable reign as kings of games went like dust into the winds. So I ask of you, why has this happened? why is no one satisfied? The answer is quite simple dear friends, gaming companies no longer see the need to create good games, all they want is to push their disappointing games on us and take our money, there is little effort put into games any more and what are we to do about it besides hope? This is a depressing time. In regards to all gaming it seems we have lost. Games are no longer defined, we no longer get the enjoyment we used to get from games, communities tear each other apart because one of them has a different box then the other... I fear that unless something changes, the era of great games will come to an end and we will be forced back to playing our old games, stop playing all together or continue to spend our money on these... Games... There is little hope. For all of us, so please stop with your pointless bickering between one another and realize that we are all being played. Thank you for your times.

  • Its the "early access" train all these "developers" are using... They can throw out a half assed game and charge the same price as a full release with "promise" of completing the game.

  • I think the only "good" game so far this year that has been worthy is Dragon Age: Inquisition. Best game of the year all over it.

  • Well I am 34 and have been gaming since the freaking Atari days! Games have gotten better tenfold!! What destroying everything not just gaming is the corporate money hungry bastards! Then there is the community! Everyone has an opinion! For me it's simple, if I like the game I play it! If I don't I move on rather than bitching about it!

      • Eagerly awaiting Tom Clancy's The Division. It looks like a game they actually care about. It's always a good sign when a release gets pushed back because it isn't ready yet. Cough cough Destiny. Not saying Destiny is a -bad- game, but it is far from the new era of gaming we had been expecting.

          • Are you entirely certain it is the developers fault in all of these matters? Or, is it a "hype" issue? Or, is it in some way a fault of our own?

            • play mobile games..... learn this HORRIBLE practices.... play plants vs zombies 1... then go to PvZ2... find just how far popcap hath fallen.... look at ALL of NAMCOs recent games... ace combat infinity... dead or alive... soul calibur online... some racing games where you can buy super cars for 200$ USD.... the cost of wedding bands in MMOs like warcrack.... you cry about the dropped quality in current shooters? sorry but destiny is truly a AAA title... yeah it has its flaws.. it didnt meet the hype... but comparing it as a failure to the utter crap games and practices i listed above.. youve got ALOT to learn before you start bitching. when CoD or Destiny FORCES you to buy game time past 5 minutes a day... or to spend 200+ dollars usd for a sparrow... THEN you can start talking about redicilous practices for todays companies.

              • Titanfall was freaking amazing. Just lacked content lol. But everyone went into it knowing it was strictly a competitive shooter.

shouldn't this have gone in your journal ? the trick ( and i know that this is going to sound difficult ) is to only buy the things that '' you '' enjoy , not the things that complete strangers enjoy ( or hate ) got it ?

                • Why is the community not satisfied with recent releases? Bc gaming companies make updates based on community feedback. This leads to a sense of entitlement and has everyone with an internet connection demanding changes that suit their personal preferences. In this forum I saw someone make a thread suggesting warlocks be nerfed in PVE. People want strike playlists to have more difficulty options. People want more options for level 30 gear, others want less options. Some people want raid matchmaking, others don't. Some want trading, others don't. We aren't satisfied bc we feel like all we need to do it bitch and moan and developers will make a game specifically for us as individuals. We need to let the developers make their game, appreciate it for the art it is, and decide if we like it or not. This is aside from things like glitches and connectivity issues. Those should be fixed. But these games are being made across platforms with various programming methods. Some consoles are only a year old. Devs are still learning.

                    • Well here's our solution. Don't buy into the hype and make all the more effort to wait for the reviews before getting a game.

                      • Look up The Lost Ark and you will see a game that someone put time into. It's not out yet but it looks epic. I also feel like most games these days are just cookie cutter games of their own previous version. Take cod, every game that comes out it only marginally different from the last. And they do it every year! Most games makes franchises now and they run with it as long as they can because they are corporations designed to maximize profit. To them the costs of creating an amazing game with fresh ideas and a fresh game engine is drastically outweighed by the idea of just copying last year's with a few new guns and missions to make millions off of. I think in the end it's partly the consumers fault because we buy these shit games. Truthfully I fell into the hype a bit for destiny and I must say I expected a bit more than constant disconnects, but I do like the game a lot. I agree with OP that the days of good games are over. The days of corporate owned gaming franchises are in - and the forecast reads shitty games

                      • Wanna know what happened ? Big corporations with big bucks happened. They are not interested in customers satisfaction of the product. They want to make a game in the shortest period of time, cash in and move on. There are only few developers that really care for the gamers and make really good polished games these days.

I completely disagree that developers and publishers don't see the need to create good games. I highly doubt that the majority of these people are publishing games that they believe are bad. The issues these days are entitlement and expectation has risen and people are hyping themselves up more than they ever have. When the game doesn't live up to the impossible standards that the community has set, people get upset and the hyperbole keeps on rolling. Before a game releases, we are seeing more marketing and exposure than we have ever seen in the industry. We get plenty of gameplay and trailers, which leads to people getting hyped. There are also more avenues for discussion before release. This helps to increase the hype levels. The number of users with broadband is at an all time high. This is also the case when a game releases. People may not have thought badly about a release. Then they go on the internet and read complaints and their own vision of the game starts to take a nose dive. Just based off of what other people have written. Overall, I completely disagree that games used to be better. Entitlement and expectations have grown. Hyperbole has grown. The internet has given people a voice to shout their opinions from. 20 years ago, we had no way of quickly discussing between thousands of people at a time how good or bad a game was. Now, it's extremely simple. Even though I'm not as old as the guys that were around when gaming started, I'm still 25 and was part of the 8-bit generation. I have seen gaming completely change, and the expectations rise as a result of that. I don't like where it's going and that's not all the developers and publishers fault. The community as a whole is also a problem.

                          • Some people push out questionable (economically viable) games such as Asura's Wrath . Great game that had potentially no market . Visionary (even though I wish it was a little more interactive) and beautiful . It did well but no talk of a sequel . Say what you may , I have 160ish games on my ps3 and only maybe 2 have I played close to the amount of time I have on Destiny . But Destiny has had the most . With all it's shortcomings I still intend to play . To each his own , sadly you are right . Hope it will not continue to be a trend...
