yes, while this OP is specifically about the thorn, its the fact that it was the first exotic bounty i got, and the gun i wanted. if it had been the bad juju i was after, this post would still exist, but the example, or specific situation would be about that gun instead,
my argument is mainly around the concept if forcing players into the crucible (or visa versa) for content. no other MMO style game does this. and as long as this concept exists, i'll always fight against it.
i have completed this bounty btw.
dont care what CoD fan -blam!-wits troll about this. this is still the worst thing about destiny. having an exotic that requires someone to go somewhere where they dont like because A) not good enough, and B) too many -blam!-y CoD fan boys is -blam!-ing moronic.
i tried tonight and with a controller im just not cut out to do it. i'd get 5 points if im lucky in a round, and lose it all the next.
worst -blam!-ing decision ever bungie. totally, utterly, and completely moronic. who ever created these bounties needs a kick in the -blam!-ing balls, several times, with a 50 meter run up.
EDIT: ok. while i till maintain my position that forcing someone to do this is a monumentally bad idea, and flawed in every conceivable way, the main problem i have with this part of that bounty (the one for the hand cannon), is that you lose 2 points on death. for those players of destiny that cannot compete well enough in the crucible to maintain a semi decent k:d ratio, this negative means that this bounty is not doable.
and the extended problem is that with this "mechanic", bungie can say that you cannot complete certain story missions without involving the crucible. which will mean that people wont be able to complete the story if they cannot maintain a semi decent k:d ratio. this scares me.
EDIT#2: possible fixes
1-remove the negative and either A) increase the points cap needed, or B) reduce the points per kill
2-have options for people to choose either crucible or non crucible content for specific stage.
3- remove the void requirement
4- make a map that will let me play any style instead of charging around like a halo/cod boffin. Let me climb and hide in corners, let me snipe and displace. The current maps do not allow this.

1 ReplyEdited by jamawebb: 12/4/2014 4:28:34 PMI completely Agree. BUNGIE... PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE offer a PvE/solo alternative to the PvP/Nightfall part of the bounties. Sure it should be hard. I'm fine with that. But not everyone likes PvP and not everybody has friends who play your game (my friends only play sports games, for example). Especially since these bounties are acquired in PvE AND only fully usable in PvE (or PvP with levels enabled such as Iron Banner). I love your game (the PvE part. PvP is some of the worst I've ever played which is weird because Halo is some of the best I've ever played), But I feel excluded from a large portion of it. If you want to continue to get my (and people like me, the largely silent vast majority of casual players. Lets face it the vocal minority of hard core players is only about 10-25% of your business) money, you need to keep me/us happy too.
-
I used a green void sniper and knocked it out in about 25 matches. i used to hate crucible but love it now.

4 RepliesEdited by jgunnoe: 1/2/2015 5:16:09 AMDear lord stop whining bungie wants you to become a good player that means in pvp or pve ; as for exotic bounties did you really think you would just waltz right into it and get it immediately.
-
These are the top weapons in the game. It makes sense that they're hard, and not always super enjoyable. By making people do PvP and PvE, they're making it harder and more interesting.
-
You have to be good at more than one aspect of the game to get the good guns. Sorry you're not good. What about people that like PVP and hate PVE? System sounds fair to me as is.
-
It is a exotic bounty it's suppose to be tough. And the crucible part is always one of the easiest part (well for me even tho my K/D is barely over 1)

1 ReplyEdited by SLOfantasy: 10/11/2014 12:32:23 AMI think they should just get rid of the Death Penalty or at least lower it to (-1 per death). The current (+5 per kill) + (-2 per death) is a bit harsh when your have way more deaths over kills. One night I managed to get up to 44/500 points only to lose all my points after a few very bad rounds. I don't mind that it may take me a long time to get the Exotic Cannon but I don't like that it feels like I'm being punished for sucking at PvP. (The Fusion Rifle Bounty is pretty hard too) Another possibility would be to change the Bounty Requirement to "...achieve 500 Kills in Crucible Matches OR achieve 500 Captures in Crucible Control matches. Just give us more options to achieve what should be a daunting task but not an impossible one.
-
Not supposed to be easy
-
A exotic bounty should be earned, meaning you should have to do multiple task dealing with all aspects of the game (not just what your comfortable with doing). You guys want a handout is what it sounds like. The way they are setup is good imo it makes you do both PvE and pvp
-
7 RepliesPvp is without a shadow of a doubt the most -blam!-ing bullshit aspect if this game. Shotguns and auto rifles need to be banned until they are fixed. This -blam!-ing wanking idea of putting shit players in an arena is -blam!-ing moronic. Pvp players are the worse kind of arrogant -blam!-.
-
1 ReplyQ--blam!-ing-Q. I'm sorry but all of you "I hate PvP with a passion" type players are an utter joke. There is NO WAY that you are even a half decent player in Heroic or Raid content and then can't even put together some 1:1 k:d type performances in Crucible if you'd actually try. No. Way. End of -blam!-ing story. Yes, the reaction times and style are different in PvP, but I guess the fact that you can't even manage to be mediocre at it must mean even all your PvE time is spent cheesing and getting dragged through. Man the -blam!- up.

2 RepliesThe whole point of the exotics are they're supposed to be rare and hard to acquire... I mean the easiest one, Super Good Advice, is painfully bad. The invective may be hard, but I absolutely suck at PVP and managed it. They can't just go and make every exotic easy to get just because people are impatient and want end game content handed to them. It's a game. You have to 'do' things to 'earn' things, that's the point. It's supposed to be a challenge so you can get better at the game. If you want everything just handed to you, there's quite a few Pay to Win multiplayer games out there.
-
4 RepliesI have all bounty exotics. I believe only 3 require PVP (invective, bad juju, & thorn). Thorn was the hardest but still doable. I'm not a "PVP god" but when I get one of those bounties I get the weapon. If I can do it (by the look of my numbers) anybody can. PVP is lame & I prefer the PVE/raid aspect of destiny. Bungie will implement some sort of grand scheme just to force you into something. I recommend you give it a shot. You will feel accomplished after you acquire that weapon.
anybody could be a PVP god in destiny if they become a try-hard themselves
-
Your edit essentially reads "make it easier because I can't do it"
-
Haha haha hahahahahahah you are not worthy of the thorn
-
Well considering the thorn is extremely good in pvp, it should be hard to get.
-
2 RepliesI am not real concerned about the forced pvp...it is the forced disadvantage of using void weapons....can - use my suros. ..can't use my shadow price...can't use one of my shotguns.....wtf. ..just the epilogue and a sniper for the most part...I get torn up.
-
3 RepliesUse NLB. It's easy mode for crucible.
-
1 ReplyHere's the thing.... pretty sure most if not all bounty exotics that require crucible participation to get are all only good in the crucible.
-
1 ReplyI get them and then delete the bounties. I figure at some point Xur will sell the items and I will just buy them if I want them that bad. I agree and it's not worth the stress or head ache to do something I have no skill at. Better to just move on to something else I do enjoy.
-
I held onto thorn bounty for a month because I tried and failed several times... I suck at crucible. But one night I sat and get it done in 3 hours. Since then I am an average player in pvp
-
I'm not that good in the pvp either. No complaints for exotic Bounty's they should be hard.
-
You know why they do that though, right? They know their PvP is not all that good, so in order to force people onto it so it looks busy, they make exotic bounties require PvP. Part of me believes this was activision sitting over Bungie's shoulder saying, "You know what would be *fun*...."
-
I felt the same way about PvP when I first started. I even ditched a Thron bounty. Now that I have a littler more experience, I actually enjoy a little PvP mixed in. IMO just give it a chance.
-
Don't want to PvP, don't do the bounties. If you're after Thorn, buy a machine gun with void damage, play control, find a zone where heavy ammo drops nearby, and play defense.
