Windows 7 and 8 are just as good. And no, there's nothing wrong with Windows 8, everyone is just anal.

You can disable it.
-
You still have the start screen (aka the touchscreen) instead of a start menu.

Edited by ABotelho: 4/9/2014 10:12:14 PMThis is me using Windows 8.1 with my 3 monitors using a mouse and keyboard. So much touchscreen throat shoving going on here!

Edited by Elrond Hubbard: 4/9/2014 11:13:47 PMOh, but what's that in the upper right corner?
I actually don't know, but it just looks like the Windows 8 start button that brings you to the Metro UI. For all I know, you could have a program that removes that feature entirely. +1 for Green Day though
LMAO Windows 8 theme for Nightingale. Nice try though.
-
Edited by Elrond Hubbard: 4/9/2014 11:17:01 PMNice try me? How about you address the apparent fact that you still have a Start screen (the infamous touchscreen that I'm referring to) instead of a Start menu.

Edited by ABotelho: 4/9/2014 11:50:00 PMWhat's the problem? It serves the same functionality. And if you really want, you can have extra small tiles. See those 2 icons bottom left? That's how small you can make your tiles if you want. Or you can have massive ones like top left. And there's the added bonus of absolute sexiness.

Edited by Elrond Hubbard: 4/9/2014 11:54:46 PM
And there's the added bonus of absolute sexiness.
You're right O_O
;_;
To be honest, the smaller icons alone make the interface not that big of a deal to me. How fast is Windows 8, by the way? I hear it's fast.

Edited by ABotelho: 4/10/2014 12:09:11 AMIt's definitely more optimized. After all, it was made to run on tablets, so they had no choice. I mean, it takes a little work to get it this way, but it doesn't really require any 3rd party programs. The Nightingtale and VMware tiles on that picture are what Windows can create, and for the 'nice' looking ones you can use a small portable program called OblyTile which essentially allows a lot of flexibility without anything running in the background. You can re-size no matter what. The start screen has this cool thing where it appears on the screen you're using at the moment, which means you don't have to move over to your 'primary' screen to launch a program. And you get a taskbar on every screen in Windows 8, while you don't in Windows 7.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

If youre a pro-user you will have no problem with Win8. Problems arise when people dont know the shortcuts. How to close an app? Oh you drag it down - you can also Alt+F4 (but if you didnt know that, you would have to screw around with dragging the app to the bottom of the screen) Its little things like that that ruined the experience for so many poeple. However, it works so well on touchscreen devices. It feel just fluid, like it was made for them. This raises the question of why bundle a touch screen OS with non-touchscreen devices?
-
I disagree. Windows 7 may be ok, but I've seen 8 and from the things I've heard, it sucks royally.
-
I have Windows 8. It's exactly like Windows 7 except it has the Metro UI (which can be disabled).
-
I'll definitely check it out when I get around to buying something new.
-
Only thing bad about 8 is the Metro/Tile style UI. Which can easily be fixed by installing one or two free lightweight programs.
-
Edited by ABotelho: 4/9/2014 9:49:06 PMMan, not even. By changing the default programs for certain file extensions like pictures and videos, you can simply use the Start Screen as a Start Menu. Especially in Windows 8.1 where you have a Start Button and you can have extra small tiles. I don't even use 'Metro' style apps but I do use the Start Screen to launch legacy apps. I think it works quite well actually. And the Windows 8 task manager? Beautiful. Plus, a recent leak suggests that a future update will allow running Windows 8-style apps in traditional windows and a mesh between the Start Screen and Start Menu.

What the shit are metro and legacy apps.
-
Edited by ABotelho: 4/9/2014 10:06:33 PMA 'metro' app being those -blam!-ed up Windows 8 apps that have the huge buttons and that go full screen. A legacy app being an app that runs like it would in Windows 7 and older.
-
Righto.
-
Take a look at my reply to Elrond Hubbard. Those are legacy apps.
